    Abomination is the perfect word for the lack of help coming from FEMA and the other agencies. When I think of all the money and help we send to other countries I have no words I can write here. FEMA people are staying in the hotels. I am in my truck after Helene. I was given a camper but it is expensive to run a generator every night. At least five gallons of gas and that will increase as the weather gets worse. The truck is not comfortable but it's a smaller space to heat. I spent three nights in the camper. I felt spoiled. Having no place to park it is another issue. Swannanoa was chilly and windy last night. The Porta Johns were sliding across the parking lot. 🇺🇸🗽🇺🇲 American strong! I will survive.

    James, here is a crazy idea...if you have heard of cord wood homes...in New York state is a small school that teaches cord wood building. If you could move your cabins a little higher...maybe you could open your campsite to have vacation classes taught by these professionals, to teach and build new cabins with people paying to build your cabins? I'm sure there are plenty of downed trees that aren't in the river(toxic) that could be salvaged for free. I know, crazy right? But, contact Rob and Jaki Roy if it sounds interesting. Good luck, you are in my prayers.

      Look into high pressure systems. They block and steer hurricanes. Which is exactly what happened with Helene. The reason these areas got hit so much harder than anticipated was 1) several days of rain preceding arrival of Helene and 2) Helene RACED inland and so still carried most of its moisture by the time it got to the mountains.

    To add to someone’s comment, I would like to see someone specifically make an effort to find out all the insurance companies who are denying claims/compensation to owners. Not only do we need to help those affected physically, financially and emotionally, but we need to go the extra mile and put the pressure on these insurance companies and to write our congressmen (in whatever state you’re in) about FEMA reform and protecting citizens from greedy insurance companies. The only thing that’s going to get these insurance companies attention is a mass campaign from the public demanding they do the right thing and those of us who have insurance through them to cancel.

    • @jenniferpolk962
      @jenniferpolk962 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      Insurance companies aren't going to pay for anything destroyed by floodwaters for anyone who doesn't have flood coverage, and they haven't for as long as I can remember. You have to buy flood insurance separately to be covered for that. This is not new and no one in this situation is being treated any more unfairly than any property owner anywhere in the country whose insurer has denied a claim due to flooding on a property that didn't have flood coverage. No need to identify the companies, because this applies to ALL of them.

    • @daisyb282

      @@jenniferpolk962 I hear you and know that what you say is true, but I was thinking it could be said that the initial catastrophe was the hurricane. It wasn’t just a flood, it was a complete natural disaster of epic proportions and I think that counts for something and some compensation should be provided. (I know, wishful thinking; insurance companies don’t do anything out of the goodness of their hearts..). Probably would be the same here in Oregon, hypothetically if one had earthquake insurance, and we had an earthquake, but further damage was done because a dam broke (we have lots of lakes )and flooded outside the designated flood zone the insurance companies would probably do the same to us. Damned if you don’t and damned if you do.

    • @jenniferpolk962
      @jenniferpolk962 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@JudyHowe-fe3db This is true - insurance companies are in the business of taking your money and not paying it out unless they absolutely cannot avoid it - this goes for ALL types of insurance. But as for the flooding, they did the same thing in Katrina when New Orleans flooded. They aren't going to pay claims for anyone who didn't specifically have flood insurance if their house flooded or washed away.

It'd be worth noting that having a view of the river from your home might actually be a bad thing in the event of a storm, a nice dense tree line letting its leaves feed the river improves the river health and protects the people a lot more. Maybe just have a few docks to enjoy the river.
