      All of the '80s C-bodies had great seats in their own distinct styles. The Olds ruled with the loose pillow look. The Buick matched the cushy comfort of any velour recliner. The Cadillac's button leather seats would be right at home in any executive office or library. These were the pinnacle of GM RWD luxury cars.

    • @AlexanderCrump
      @AlexanderCrump 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This particular ad is all '80s, with the upbeat chorus. These ads stuck in your head - an ear worm nagging you to stop by the Cadillac or whatever dealership. What Cadillac ad now accomplishes that simple task?

    • @SnepperStepTV
      @SnepperStepTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get the chills because its beautiful and nostalgic, but they are coming back. The car companies have already realized that their practices of the 2010s are unable to continue and are about to collapse, electric vehicles are a scam, and classic cars are inexpensive, easy, and hands-off to manufacture. They even cost less brand new than even used cars cost in the 2010s.
      Every bit of "safety" legislation has been a ploy by the companies to sell more cars to the same customers at ever-increasing price points and around 2008 they just started inventing problems to introduce fixes to. The instant they knew there was nothing left in wimpy 4 cyl tiny suvs was the instant they said they were going electric as a distraction. The classics, ALL THE CLASSICS, are returning. And there will even be some additional models you haven't seen before such as the 1959 Cadillac Escalade Tradesman (based on the concept of the Escalade EXT)

    My Dad was a auto mechanic at a Cadillac dealership from 1955 until he retired in 1995. He LOVED Cadillacs and he was always watching the trade-ins to pick up a sweet low mileage one because they were not abused by previous owners. We always had two of them. When he would go to work in the morning sometimes it would be a different model coming home! Lol! Mom was always surprised. 😄 He always said Cadillac was the best built car until the '90s. That's when GM went downhill in design, quality, and pride. Cadillac will never be the same. 😒

    I love this car!! I have owned 2 in the distant past, and just bought an '87 Brougham D'Elegance a few weeks ago as an early (or late) birthday present, and it's been amazing to have in my life again. True elegance, power, and what Cadillac used to be. Today, I would buy a Mercedes. Sorry, GM... I love you, I used to work on your cars for 15 years, but... I don't want an over-priced, over-produced plastic car. The latest model year I purchased was a '98 DeVille. What a sad day when the engine started overheating. What a sad few months before I decided to buy a brand-new Silverado in 2007. *lol* It didn't make sense to pay $3,000 to have the engine repaired. I just didn't love the car THAT much. I haven't heard of too many issues between 2002 and 2009, but I have heard that 2010 - current has many issues, especially with ATS models. I don't know what's going on, but they suddenly don't know how to build or price some of their vehicles anymore My 2014 Silverado crew cab LT has 5 recalls on it already... my 2007 had none. I almost wish I didn't trade it in, but . . . so far, the recall work that was done seems to be holding. The latest one I am aware of has something to do with the seat belts. *rolls eyes* ---- Anyway, I my love for the older Cadillacs is deep. I've watched this commercial many times.

      The '80s GM C-bodies have aged extremely well. I think they are still very handsome cars 40 years later. The 1980 redesign was perfect. They are very large cars, but much more realistic and useful than the '70s behemoths they replaced. Nearly perfect cars for their times as far as I'm concerned.

    It's a shame Cadillac can't build a decent car anymore. However, that's true of every luxury maker. Lincoln and Caddy both decided to make shit that wasn't comfortable.

      +Sample Text You do have a point in today's cars, however... I'd rather have this full size. If I were in the market for a modern luxury car it'd be a Cadillac. Lincoln is the biggest joke of them all. Rebadged Fords with small improvements for huge markup.

    A plan to make Cadillac great again:
    • Step One: Borrow Silverado crew cab frame and power options
    • Step Two: Lower and soften the suspension
    • Step Three: Equip it with a neo-classical '70s-80s style Fleetwood body and interior
    • Step Four: Stop production of all these cramped, stealth fighter jet styled, hard riding, overpriced store brand BMWs that would make more sense as Pontiacs
    Step Five: Profit

Starting in 87 the base Brougham seats were rather flat with straight lines, sort of identical to the seats in the DeVille's of 79-84 The only tufted seats offered were on the upgraded d'Elegance models.

The same can be said for the Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. It's such a shame that these cars are being taken off the market and that the motor companies are sucked in by the current trend of small, sporty cars. I've always preferred to ride in big luxury cars. They exude style and class.

    HP ratings are miss leading, TQ is what moves a car. Your 1.8 makes 140hp and 130tq. The 5.0 V8 makes 140hp and 255tq. Even if we don't take gear ratios, weight, or the power curve of the engines in to account, your 1.8 in the caddy would be even slower and just as thirsty, maybe even more so. I own one of these cars with 37k original miles and it returns 17 in regular driving and 20 on the hwy.

    I had an 87 Brougham back in the 90's. That Olds engine was swamped with emission control devices. It passed state emissions with flying colors year after year. Not a dirty car at all.

      The Olds 307 was the last production carbureted engine because it could meet emissions requirements that the Chevy 305 could not. I'm not sure why.

    @ez3276 Cadillac specs are the '86 fleetwood brougham is 221 inches long, my '94 sedan deville is209.7 inches long.So thats 11.3 inches shorter not even a foot and not 18+.But both are nice big cars.94 is when they made them longer and taller and wider then the '87's to '93.They made this body style from '94-'99.I really like the old one like this commercial it's what I wanted but the '94 is nice also-peace.

    @foxdev321 A '94 front drive Sedan Deville is not even close to as big as this '86 Fleetwood, it's a good 18 inches shorter

    It had a 5 liter? I wonder was that the 305 or 350? All my 1980s/90s Caddy's had either the 4.1 with the notorious bad oil returns, 4.5, 4.7 or 4.9(& one with the Northstar, a 2001). I don't recall seeing many Caddy's from then with any "5.0 liters" stamped on them(not to mention any with rear wheel drives by the mid to late 80s).

    well despite oil prices being halved, cars did continue to become more efficient, car designers in the 80s were obsessed with aerodynamics

    @stellarfungk85 one of the few exceptions to this rule as far as luxury car classic is the last generation town car. It was very classy and truely american. Sad to see it go as it commanded a presence that very few other cars could do and also be super classy at the same time.

    This was a good era for the DeVille sedan. No competition from Buick or Oldsmobile, though the Lincoln Town Car was nipping at its heels and gaining ground fast with a superior EFI 302. The 4100 engine was gone. Best days (though short-lived) were ahead with the Chevy 350. It was all downhill after that.

    When the 1977 B/C bodies came out, they advertised how small and space efficient they were. Then, bam, gas prices drop and they tack on a few extra inches at the ends and the wasted space is a selling point.

    I wish Cadillac still had a Brougham model today. Not the one of the early 90s that looked like it had a bar of soap in its family tree, but a BIG, ROOMY, COMFORTABLE luxury car that is the most comfortable way there is to drive for hours and hours on end and has good looking, modern, and conservative styling. I honestly think that it'd sell. Not everybody wants every car to be sporty.

    I still have my 86 in the garage it's got just over a hundred thousand miles on it the bumper fillers have curled up and fell out... the paint has white spots on the hood and trunk spots.....but the interior still looks like no one ever set in it.... and I wouldn't take $40,000 for it right now

    The big 350 gm engine was one of the best as it powered many cars and trucks for decades. it should never have been discontinued. Thank your Congress for wanting to dump all V8s which they damn near have done. V 6's are OK but sometimes you need a V8 as I hate tiny cars. They aren't safe and they are hard to get comfortable as I'm 6 foot tall.
