The ARMY professor ( she is herself ARMY too, having wrote a book about them) mentioned how the structure of fan clubs in the past were organized in a hierarchical style (H.O.T. , Jacks Kies etc.) with a fanclub President receiving orders, directions and guidance from the entertainment company themselves and how the president, then, distributes what to say to the fanclub overall. ( one panelists stated that she belonged in that group, as part of the H.O.T side) This formed a sort of triangle shape where the power that be, the very few, would weild power over the many. A structure where there is a center. However, in the case of BTS, that tree like structure, where the water and nutrients gets absorbed from the many roots, to the stems and eventually up into the leaf, and which forms a triangle shape, doesn't exist. Instead, through the use of social media, the structure is generally flat, almost like rhizomes in plant biology ( one plant spreading equally, and randomly, across the plane, without having a clear direction or central figure). She also mentioned that, essentially now, everyone is the center. Therefore, interactions and collaborations are done organically. One lady panelists asked of how the color purple came to be for BTS? The Professor replied, it was decided through discussions and votes amongst the ARMY in choosing the color purple and was showcased to BTS as a surprise event. Big Hit had no saying in the decisions.
