      lizzay Yes my leave date is May 15th by the way but my advice is to you don't let others perceptions of the Undes program shape your personal experience in the navy It all depends on how you look at it. Go in there do your job to the best of your ability, get qualifications, travel ,enjoy life ,and have fun. The places and things you are about to see and due are second to none so just really really enjoy the experience your going to have and look at it as a opportunity to get valuable job training and on the job training.

    Study hard for the ASVAB test and get a good score so that you can pick a rate otherwise don't go in. Otherwise you're just taking your chances and you may not be happy.

    I had to sign seaman pact since I'm not a US citizen. How's the job like? And one of my most important question that my recruiter doesn't even know how to answer. My contract is to serve 3 years in active duty and 5 years as a reserve. Is this reserve just like other reserves? For example, you have to go to work on your job once a week? And Also, once I'm done with my 3 years in active duty, can I go for another job? My goal was to be a hospital corpsman. And I'll be getting my citizenship while I'm serving. Can I change jobs and do my job as a hospital corpsman after my years in active duty?

    • @JonnnyFive
      @JonnnyFive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The video explains everything about the job, as for the 5 years reserve its just in case they have to call you back to serve if there is need for more people. You’re not actually going to work once a week. You can strike a rate within your 3 years and you’ll get a new contract for your new job

    All this stuff about difficulty with getting a job in the navy makes me wonder why more people dont take a better look at the army before joining the navy. I was in the army but went to a navy school for my AIT and got to know lots of sailors. Some of them had been in the navy for ages, picking up cigarette butts and taking out trash and were only finally getting to go to an A school (which we called AIT, but it was the same place.) So we were in the same place learning the same job, only I had been in the army for three months and some of these guys had been in the navy for years and were only just getting trained. Seemed insane to me.

      DM 00 because each ship has different needs from each Rate/MOS. If you’re in Japan as a Radar Technician and you leave and arrive on a ship in Spain that needs a Comms tech, then they’re going to send you to that school before you officially stay on the ship. The only time there would be an E5 or above at AIT or A school is because they’re switching their rate. As for C school, there will be even E7s who need a specific skill set before going to their next ship. It helps on advancement and gives you more time off the ship

    • @megga0
      @megga0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The standard of living. Is a big reason. And you pick up cigarette butts and trash in the Army too. But if anyone is looking to join the military. Make sure you pick a job. don’t come in open general or undesignated.

    • @troyvincent8933
      @troyvincent8933 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What was your MOS that had your AIT at a navy school? Were those Navy folks stuck in some kind of limbo to go to A school?

    • @JonnnyFive
      @JonnnyFive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It’s whenever you are eligible to take your e4 exam that you are emigre to take the exam and convert rates. Typically you are eligible from 3-6 months after you have been an e3 but if you miss the cycle of the test which is in March and September then you have to wait till one of those cycles that means you can be an e3 a little longer.

    • @chrissyg55
      @chrissyg55 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on your job and command. You can go in as an E3 and after 4 years still be an E3.

  • @wizzies9413

    It's not just the "work" that's challenging. The work isn't challenging at all, it's easy shit. It's the amount of fucking disrespect you get from not having a rate. It's the fact that you will always be a "low priority" as an undes seaman. There was no "make it a better working environment". You are the bottom of the ship, picking your rate at the end is a myth. Even if it's undermanned there's absolutely no guarantee you get what you want. If you can't go BM start preparing to be the lunch lady of the ship

  • @dudwtfomg
    @dudwtfomg 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol undesignated is basically modern-day indentured servitude. Going undes is prob the absolute worst thing you can do. Won't ever pick up petty officer until you successfully strike a rate...and BM fuking sucks and doesnt give u any marketable skills once you're getting out back into the civilian world. Unless u do college while ur in, you just wasted your time.
