The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

@@davidreichert9392 You are right about the Wrecking Crew playing in the studio but the real bands still had to play live when they played concerts. The Wrecking Crew would play on the recordings because they were seasoned veterans in the studio where time is money so it can't be wasted but that didn't necessarily mean the real bands wouldn't have eventually come up with something as good, but it would have taken longer and cost more. I clicked on this clip because usually the Ed Sullivan show would be live and I wanted to hear how they sounded live but in this case they used the studio version (you can tell because there's no keyboard on stage but you can hear keyboard from the original recording) and had them play along with everything turned down until the end where the fade out started, then the real band takes over for the ending. That seems like that would have been hard.

      And dress by yellow candle-light.

I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,

Jim Morrison would never have been able to “accidentally” sing “girl, we couldn’t get much higher” LIVE otherwise, and not be asked back on the show as a result. Consider THAT! Having said all this, I do think this band was probably lip-syncing, given the obviously double-tracked vocals.

Dennis and I talked about our women troubles while shaving and showering in "The Head"....The crazy thing is, Dennis had wolfman like hair and though we were "Dock/Boat Neighbors", I never knew who he was until the day he died. I held the the dock-gate open for the gurney that evening after divers found the body. That day burned into my memory.

I ironically enough just watched the most interesting biography on Lucille Ball on the “Reelz station/network” on Cable ,two nights ago. There was a man in the show that spoke throughout the special( explaining various episodes from “I Love Lucy”. He stated how he played little Ricky & showed up with so many others for the interview. He told in great detail how the interview went & so much fun 👂 no the whole story on how he was hired. His name is “Keith Thibodeaux & he went on to say that when he showed up for the interview, he walked onto the set of the show to meet Lucy. Desi Sr wasn’t there at the moment. He said Lucy looked at him, turned to who brought him for interview & Lucy said “Well..... he is cute but what does he do?” Keith said that he turned to Lucy ( think he said he was six yrs old at the time but not positive.) & said “I play the drums!” Lucy said “Ok Keith”...” Play the drums for me!” Keith said that at that point they had interviewed so many child actors fur the pivotal part! Keith said he started playing the drums & in walked Desi Sr & he stopped him after a couple minutes, turned to Lucy & said “Well, I THINK WE HAVE FOUND OUR LITTLE RICKY!!!”♥️
