The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The Birds music is based on folk music or more accurately European peoples folk music. Its timeless because the themes(their two main hits) and underlining music is tribal and about the nature of existence.
      Seasons, balance, etc etc.
At least that's my assertion on it from reading about them and what I know of Euro folkish heritage.
All people have their own version of folksiness, because we all came from a tribal/nature setting.
To touch the soul of a people so to speak.

Had the pleasure of hearing Roger McGuinn play this song, along with many others we all knew, in Lexington MA last night. Still going strong at 82(!!), he still has his voice, his wits, and his skills on 6 and 12 string guitars (and a 5-string banjo). A wonderful solo show filled with music and warm, often funny, stories about his career and all the amazing people he's known. If he's performing anywhere near you, GO SEE HIM. You'll be glad you did.

I agree. Today's acts require a bunch of flashy lights and dancers who hardly wear anything jumping and prancing all over the stage. The singers have outrageous make-up on, pierced beads all over their face, and rings hanging from their nose and chin. They wear hideous outfits with tattoos all over their body. Today's bands need to concentrate on their performance and leave the filth behind.

I suspected as drugs were so big then in the 60's-80's. Some died in the 90's and still do. It is SO sad so many artists and celebrities have died due to substance abuse/overdose, and some from liver failure, usually due to alcoholism at that age(40's/50's). Some probably before. Crosby was no saint and was in jail twice but he made it to 81. I believe it is believed he died from liver failure although they really dont say. Maybe tonight they will. The family asked for privacy. I liked the band and C, S, & Nash but the famous songs were the originals of Bob Dylan.

Because many videos in Ed Sullivan's channel were uploaded just for a few seconds, and it had happened for many years. The unnoficial channels that tried to post the whole performance of the song were blocked by TH-cam. So I have been waiting since 2012, and luckly this channel started up posting whole songs and not just few seconds.

@@victorhugobarcelos1523 whoever's in charge of the "Ed Sullivan Show" archive probably realized that there's a lot more money in TH-cam streaming now than trying to sell DVDs. That's likely why they used to only post short sections of the clips to encourage people to buy the DVD set.
