Irregardless of your opinion of Ireland's drinking culture. John. B was a pure storyteller and an absolute legend. The man could spin a yarn after 20 pints or stone-cold sober, a true wordsmith.
I agree the Late Late Show is gone down and down..In fact I never watch it..Prefer to watch old Late Late Show recordings here on TH-cam. In my personal opinion the "talent" isn't there...Interviewing techniques are so appalling and everyone afraid to say anything that's even slightly controversial..Also the interviewer keeps interrupting / giggling and never listens properly to the person they're Interviewing.
I loved John B...but funny how times have changed ..Alcohol is now acknowledged as a massive problem amongst young people in Ireland and not considered a topic to be making jokes... about...
We're in a cultural transition at the moment, where men are beginning to open up emotionally rather than taking to the drink and taking out their frustrations on their betrothed. I don't think we'll ever stop joking about our ailments, but I do think it's a good thing to welcome a little vulnerability from time to time.
TheFallsCapone yes that's a big problem too. "a few drinks" like you mention is not a big deal. The problem is that some get swallowed by drink. And it's not only the classic alcoholic.
@@spunky3183 In my young days (not today or yesterday) pubs were crowded almost 7 nights a week...After work sessions happened at 5.30...snd continued till closing time ..around 11pm..That is a thing of the past in fact thousands of pubs have closed their doors for good all over the country..The pubs were also very smokey places ...You weren't considered a man if you couldn't knock back at least a dozen pints of Guinness..Alas a lot of my friends that were considered heavy drinkers are no longer with us..

Two very special men Gay Burn and John B, they raised a billion laughs and made trillions of unforgettable stories
How we miss John B and Bryan McMahon.
Have to say loved Brian McMahon
If John B. feared being captive of those bores of old, what would he make of the detached phone-starers of today?
