Thank you Francis and hope you're staying safe in this killer heat. A great time for music and I'd love to return back to this time. Blimey Matthew Marsden was fit! I had a crush on him back in the day. I wonder if he still sexy now. Destiny's Child had just started out. Who would think Beyonce would be a mega star now? Was Carisma one of those Corona type acts? 'Freak Me' I have a mental image of Dane Bowers singing it to Katie Price (sorry folks). What was exciting about this time was, everyone stood a chance and all genres were represented. This is one very strong video.
I have one big favourite - 'Viva Forever'. The Spice Girls best song and such a gorgeous and tragic ballad. Their voices are perfect in this song. Should have had longer at Number 1 in my eyes. It's obviously about a song about someone who has passed on. Other top favourites of mine are 'I Think I'm Paranoid', 'I Don't Want To Wait', 'Iris', 'Freak Me (a good cover version), 'Seven Days', 'Immortality', 'The Boys Of Summer', 'You're The One That I Want', 'Life is a flower', 'This Is How We Party', 'Lover' (surprised she never had more of a career as good vocalist) and 'My Oh My' (that one a bit of a guilty pleasure).
How many versions of 'Mas que nada' are they?

Fun fact: The lead singer of the band Unbelievable Truth 2:51 is Andy Yorke, younger brother of Thom Yorke, of Radiohead fame.

well i can't say it was a good year all round. it was good in a way that i was able to go out on my own more and i had turned 18 in may, but musically it was a lowpoint for indie rock music after 1997 and earlier. the ban on four track EPs was brought in to favour pop releases from late june/early july. even pop had interesting personalitites not just in rock and hip hop. the charts were less vanilla than today. the music on the radio was meaningful music. i also remember the pepsi chart debuting on channel 5 in february to rival the ITV chart show and TOTP on the beeb. the pepsi chart would stay until june 2002 and the video based ITV effort would stay until august of that year and replaced by cd:uk. in my opinion the chart show should have remained until november 2001 at least because of the dance charts, the indie charts and the rock charts which alternated every three weeks whereas cd:uk felt too pop orientated, no disrespect to ant and dec; and cat deely.
