    Honestly, it wasn't until I hired my first trainer at 48 yrs old that I made any true fitness gains. Ultimately leading to figure competition at 50 and now lifting heavier every day at nearly 60. Love your content and truth.

      I haven’t watched this yet but your comment caught my attention because I’m 48 now & have specific goals before I’m 50. I’ve been in the fitness industry for years but have had to slow down to stopping workouts off & on due to health issues (adrenal fatigue, etc). A friend turned me on to this channel just this morning, I’m digging it! ❤ 💪🏼

    I ditched the little pink dumbells and attending too many classes targeted at women. Got rid of the idea that women can't lift heavier weight and started implementing and tracking compound lifts. Also realized that often, less is more and finally achieved the athletic look I was after. Fitter and stronger at 48 than I ever was in my twenties.

    Stopping all the HIIT and circuit classes I’ve done for years and transitioning to good ol’ fashioned strength training was the key to building muscle mass and eventually able to increase my caloric intake, and losing FAT with less effort.

    • @RLDGisFree
      @RLDGisFree 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive been making that transition for the last 2 weeks. When did you start to notice a change?

    • @leannebahuaudbradley569
      @leannebahuaudbradley569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@RLDGisFree my history is years of 3-4 hours of intense exercise a day (Orangetheory, BJJ, MMA) and multiple workouts a day, chronic undereating. I also was developing one injury after another for 2 years. I tore my mcl, and had to stop the intense cardio. I gained 25lbs in a month. When my knee healed I never lost any weight, got fatter and more bloated looking. I ended up with low thyroid, and abnormal cortisol readings. After 3 months of strength training I felt and looked significantly better. My health markers improved before my body really started to change. It took me a year of proper strength straining and no cardio (just light walking) to see the fat loss, and changes in my health that I needed. Also key was the focus on sleep and stress management

    Correcting micronutrient deficiencies and optimizing hormone production. Yes, macros, caffeine, sleep and stress management are a must. But micronutrients are often overlooked and everyone's different. So not subscribing to a one size fits all diet and getting the variety that I need was definitely the biggest game changer.

    I am 43 and find that "losing weight" is harder....the break-neck drop 15 pounds in two weeks kind of weight loss. However, I've been consistent with the long game in mind and am fitter than I ever imagined I could be! I kept myself "skinny" in my 30s but was ALWAYS starving and never shapely. I always felt soft. I am gaining muscle and losing body fat % like it's nobody's business at 43! It's amazing. So I think that crazy fast cutting of weight MIGHT be more difficult now, but I don't want to do that EVER again anyway!

    When I stopped exercising for everyone else, and started doing it for myself. When you switch your focus from being the best looking or being the strongest to enjoying yourself and working towards improvement, it really changes things. Also focusing on yourself rather than comparing your physique and performance to everyone around you.

After powerlifting for two years, I just completed MAPS Anabolic which made me stronger, but I feel quite alone because everyone at the gym is half my age which is the targeted demographic of the social media influencer. I was 41 when i started strength training. The gym was a scary place for me bcos i didn't really know what i was doing. My new partner helped me get my confidence, correct form and understand equipment then my confidence rose. 3 yrs on and i consistently go 4-5 times a week and I'm the best I've ever looked. I think at this age its not just about how you look but about health over all.

    Ughh, I swear this episode was made for me.
    Of every single female that I trained within these past 5+ years , the ones who saw the MOST success were those in their really late 30s and through out the 40s and across their 50s.
    They just value it more.
    They trained for the NOW. For every day improvement.
    Not only was the physical aspect a solid improvement - above all, it was their general attitude and behavior that really changed for the better.
    I really miss the 1 on 1 in person training these days. . miserable covid done fkkd up my industry :(

    4. Getting enough sleep
    5. Meal prep consisting of a protein, a veggie and a carb.

      Have you started with just having coffee? If not, I’d start there. I have tried several but I settled on c4 without the creatine. I like to take creatine on my own terms. Of note, beta alanine is in c4 and it causes an itchy/tingly sensation for the first few minutes. If that would bother you, try something without the beta alanine. Ghost is a popular pre-workout, but I’ve never had it. You could also try a pre-mixed canned drink. They have a lot of b-vitamins, can come without or without caffeine as well as creatine or beta alanine. You can but one for between $1 and $3 without the big investment in the powder at between $20 and $60 ( strong body builder type dosage). O not take it if I’m doing legs or full body. If talking powder, start with half the serving size.

      @@ali-boop Caffeine is definitely the major player, but I personally see a bug difference when I use prewokout. I have arthritis all over and it’s takes an eternity for me to loosen up and feel good when I don’t use preworkout even when I’ve had a good deal of coffee. YMMV, but I’d say yes there is a difference. Coffee plus preworkout leaves me with ALL day energy and I can lift a little heavier and get an extra rep of two.

  • @ali-boop
    @ali-boop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I just came to stare into baby Yoda's gamer eyes.
    I'm definitely stronger in my 40s than I ever was in my 20s or 30s, thanks to lifting heavy and adding protein to my diet. I come in to work full of energy and run circles around people almost half my age. Trying to repair the ultra low calorie diet and cardio heavy workouts is the most difficult challenge, esp with a diagnosed adrenal fatigue issue. The doctor says whatever I was doing was working to keep my bmi healthy (800 calories a day and orange theory). But I was actually fainting and losing hair, so I couldn't continue. 🥲 I'd love to hear an episode on pcos or adrenal fatigue issues (congenital (or non-congenital) adrenal hyperplasia). It's a very frustrating situation.

    • @stephanienewton6618
      @stephanienewton6618 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have diagnosed adrenal fatigue but have suspected it. I find it helps to build up with strength training very very slow. Start low weight, never 2 days in a row, lots of protein, lots of sleep. Then slowly build up the weight/reps/sets and less rest days over time.

Not so talked about but things that have been essential for me is self-awareness and honesty with myself about my training, when to push it and when to ease off and focus on mobility, meditation, etc, and also be honest with what you need and what works for you instead of just subscribing to every fad and influencer that's new. I’m 63. Lost 60lbs over the last year. What works? Different for everyone but here’s what worked for me: Focus on building muscle. Not loosing fat. I was upset that I couldn’t climb bleachers at a ice rink. I told myself I am not giving into this old age of being a fragile old women. Focus on eating more protein. I eat 150gms every day. Focus on eating enough carbs. Eating enough carbs healed my hormones, so women don’t fear carbs. My macros 40/40/20. I was eating 1000 calories and gaining weight with my hormones out of wack. I now eat 1600 - 1700 calories and still loosing weight! I heard about mushrooms helping with muscle growth but haven’t tried them. I take creatine. L-Cartine, Taurine, and R-ALA and just added Annatto. To stay motivated or disciplined and consistent, watch TH-cam shows like MindPump! ❤

    My main game changers have been prioritizing making eating healthier more convenient and making physical activity less convenient, as far as it is practical.
    For example, I’d rather buy pre-cut lettuce that I’ll eat than a head of lettuce I’ll have to clean, dry and cut myself, which will end up in the trash because I ate something more convenient but more processed and calorically dense that doesn’t fit my plan.
    In terms of physical activity, modern technology takes care of a lot, of course. So I avoid things like using my dish washer or driving to the store in favor of hand washing, sometimes hand drying and walking to the store. This helps me to stay more active outside of work my outs.

    I have just bought the fabulous 40s bundle and the links don't work on the at home workout blueprint. Am I doing something wrong? I would just like to check my form on these movements. Can anyone help?

    From a lady in this demographic: thank you thank you thank you! I'm trying the fat loss moves in your free PDF, but would love to know what the best MAPS program is for a home gym with dumbbells. I already train 5 days a week and would love to try a MAPS program!

      Many of our programs come with dumbbells only modifications. In fact the bundle I talk about in the intro of this episode has programs with dumbbell only mods

    Can the MAPS anabolic program be used with dumbbells? I workout at home and do no have a wide range of weights. The heaviest is 15 lbs and as I have been training for the past 5 weeks I know I can go higher. My request is please can you suggest good brand of equipment (dumbbells/kettlebells) to buy. Would like to invest in good quality equipment which lasts longer than go buy whatever is available on Amazon considering how expensive these are right now.

    So funny when they ALL said "gee, women in their 30s and 40s are the majority of clients". Then tried to theorize why. Dudes, this is the phase when women are deciding if the provider they have is really the best option to ride out the rest of life with.

      Provider? Do you mean partner? I don’t think that’s it. It’s because we’ve had kids, we’re aging, and metabolism has changed and we know how hard we have to work in the gym to get results.
