This guy is a genius! :D Everyone knows what he is going to do, but for safety reasons, he won't show us the process. My first thought was "cut the spring" and he did. ^^ In germany this kind of stuff is highly forbidden. :(
Will you have enough travel with that setup? I used to use MR2 SW20 rear struts in my corolla strut tubes. You can get aftermarket stuff readily available. Plus you cut down the stock strut tube about 40mm. This fits the OE sized MR2 rear strut, and gives you more usable stroke. I also weld a 1/2 thick section of pipe over the OD of the strut for the new sleeve to sit on. I used to have write ups for all this but the crash of photobucket took a bunch out. The rear with 2" blocks will pick up a rear inside tire while on hard cornering. Love the build!
A nice tip I learned when I put brand new coilovers on my car was after I got my height where I wanted, I went back in there and wrapped electrical taped around the rest of the exposed threads so if I ever needed to readjust again after driving around a while, I’d just unwrap the tape and it would be super easy. Just a way to keep it clean and easy for the next time 👍🏽 but I love your vids man I can’t wait to see the rest of the progress
LOL just replaced taillight lenses on the same type of corolla exactly the same color and a full service all parts were bought in our local Toyota dealership South Africa. One of the technicians didn't see the customer card, to my amsument it was signed in as Customer name: Built. Guess I'm not the only one in the shop watching your channel.
He is still young and immortal. He will learn when he gets the first real shrapnel in to eye. I just hope that it is not a cutting disc which explodes.
@@deadslow201 Yeah because old guys doesn't do this? Have had shrapnel in the eye two times so bad i had to go to the doctor to get it removed. Both of that times i used safety glasses (should prob. used a full cover glasses or skiing goggles, but yeah they fog up) And i still use a flap disc to just take of some rust or something small sometimes without using glasses. If im using a cutting disc, carbon disc, those metal strings cleaning discs or doing grinding work i always use glasses. So yeah you should use glasses, but for using a flap disc on some light rust for 20 seconds isnt gonna make you go to the doctor with shrapnel in the eye if your not using the grinder completely wrong.

Also forgot my Gramps suggested to put transmission fluid back into where the shock goes. If you notice the shock housing has fluid at first but yes both should work just alittle more
Man.. u are really talented. I admire u more than the way admire those rich guys who own big garages. I can't wait to see the final result of thad DOPE Corolla!
Pretty much what I did on mine. But I used strut cartridges from 91-98 corolla and shortened my strut housings. Almost made it too low. Wish I could share pics with you.
All I gotta say is love the channel and the videos and Man U living the dream being able to build a car and moving forward with your career and family it’s awesome to see
Gotta give it to you bro you do a lot of stuff the average joe can do and that’s rare definitely cool too see your kid chilling in the shop with you I don’t like a lot of videos but you got my like keep up the great work bud
Most truck shops that build driveshafts and such can custom make you u-bolts. I would highly advise getting some that are the right size because the ones you have in there now are an accident waiting to happen.
I didn't see anything holding the shock to the strut housing. Can you tap the nub on the bottom and run a bolt through the shock housing to hold it together? Good content though!
the o rings are from GC and probably to keep moisture out. The collar isnt going anywhere when it is sandwiched between the old spring perch and the coil tension.
Love the videos, great to see a build on an old wagon. Love that you involve your kidscin the vids. I just wish you would wear saefty glasses when grinding and using the wire wheel, you only get one set of eyes man.
Hey bud. Just wondering why you didnt put rear shocks and new leaf springs in when you put the lowering blocks in. All new in the front then just left the old crap in the back
Bruhh...... get you some eye protection. Had me in cringe when you broke out that wire wheel. Love how the build is coming, can't wait to see how it turns out. Keep it goin!!!
Surprised you didn't go with a steel threaded coilover sleeve kit. The advantage with them is you can weld them to the strut sleeve rather than relying on rubber O rings to stop the rattling. Also, I didn't see you refill the sleeve with oil/trans fluid to help with heat dispersion, was there a reason for that?
Damn i miss all of my old toys. Custom chopping is the only way. I never did any quality work like this though. Great job! So many cars none for more than $300 now in my searching most run around 15k...to only do again........
Hey man a pressure washer would help a lot when cleaning stuff like this I use it on my tractors that hadn't been cleaned in 5 plus years till I inherited them after my dad passed since he didn't have the time to clean them properly
Man I love that your kids are always around, that's how I grew up around cars. I was always in the middle of whatever project was happening.
i wish i lived your childhood
Caleb: "a method i do not endorse"
Me (5 sec later): *plops down 2 pieces of spring*
# ØMEME 😂😂😂that what I was thinking too
LOL! you can see the grinder with the cut off wheel right there also!
This guy is a genius! :D Everyone knows what he is going to do, but for safety reasons, he won't show us the process. My first thought was "cut the spring" and he did. ^^ In germany this kind of stuff is highly forbidden. :(
@@Prxpagandalf In Sweden, that's how most teens lower their cars!
Looks sick. You just can't beat that feeling when you lower the jack for the first time after fitting lowered suspension. Great job mate. 👍🇬🇧
That strut to coil over conversion was cool
Caleb's enthusiasm, and frugal builds really makes this channel for me.

Royal Dub that’s actually a daarn good idea
@@daviddevos9444 great tip. mine were full of sand when i tried to re-adjust haha
You can also get coilover bags, as in zip over - not the air variety - bag gets filthy but threads stay clean.
Genius! It's so difficult to re adjust mine after catching to many speed bumps 😅😅
Royal Dub I thought I’d do pipe thread myself
I admire the patiences you have with your kids. Not everyone has that👍🏻
Yup that's me that's why I haven't worked on my ride lol
Sick bro but still should do 13×6 in the front and 13×7 in the rear you'll get a lot lower
Really enjoy the channel love the budget builds and the kids playing in the back ground!
You and Chase have the dopest channel on TH-cam. Keep up the hard work
I wish you would wear safety glasses when using a grinder. Love the work by the way
the children are watching!
Take care man that wheel is a little dangerous. Love you from Palestine 😍🇵🇸
😂😂😂😂 Heavy duty undie cleaner.
I’ve got back pain and I laughed out loud. Causing my pain to get worse. 😂😂😂
Man this gave so much motivation to work on my car 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Ground Control are great folks, one of the very few that still make suspension for the Contour platform.
the front suspension came out great, they look like real aftermarket coilovers, nicely done
Dude wear some safety glasses when grinding and even cleaning parts !
You'll usually be okay cleaning (although you should still wear them) but 100% wear when grinding!

Very helpful mate thank you!
Damn, life is so good and easy with all the necessary tools. I envy your garage haha
You have no idea how happy I am that you made your own coilovers. Now I know what to do to make my own for my 79 corolla.
Thank you !!!!
Man.. u are really talented.
I admire u more than the way admire those rich guys who own big garages.

Ground controls and Kong’s are OG dude! I had that set up on my old Integra and CRX back in the day!
I love it how u cut the spring you must have some big balls
You are a super underrated youtuber love your vids
Like it!!
Awesome video, are painting the inner fender liners? Do you have a render of how you want it once complete ?
THIS IS THE VIDEO IVE ALWAYS WANTED SOMEONE TO MAKE! THANK YOU!
So I’m looking at budget coil overs and the 2 I’ve come down to are TEIN street basis Z and TruHart street plus any recommendations?
What brand of heavy duty undy cleaner is the safest for your under carriage? 😆
Cool build! hey question regarding the Koni shocks, what model are they? thanks
Pretty much what I did on mine. But I used strut cartridges from 91-98 corolla and shortened my strut housings. Almost made it too low. Wish I could share pics with you.
Well done Caleb, this is really awesome.
I will be so grateful if you can advise me on how to lift the front of my Peugeot 307.
Question though. Shouldn't you put a nylon washer under on the inside of the old body before you screw the cap on?
What size forstner bit did you use and what size drill bit for the u bolts?
clinched fenders from instagram would look really good on this car, you might get a sponsorship with them!
Finallyyyy YES
What would you charge to make them coil overs ?
Looks sick but i really dont trust aluminium lowering blocks.
You forgot do do a word of the day so ill make my own - PURPLE MONKEY DISHWASHER
Front suspension *high performance adjustable coilovers* rear suspension *leaf springs*
18:20 what is the name of song pls say

Love it!
That beginning should totally be your intro for all your vids
Looks awsome ready to see the end results
A bosozoku type of wide body on this car would look pretty sick
do the shocks come with the coilover kit from ground control?
they will sell you Koni or a few other brands that they work with

I’m liking the build. I hope we can see it running like a champ soon
Hey BUDDY safety 1st!!!!!
😆 I'm just FECKN with ya
Please wear safety glasses when you use a grinder
You should check out Build Create wide bodied brat. The way he did the brat I think would be a great way to wide body the carolla.
Also, if there is play around the shock inside the strut housing, I think you can tighten it up with a couple of wraps of duct tape.
Don't those collars have to be welded on? Is Ground Control cool with just using bands to keep tension?
the o rings are from GC and probably to keep moisture out. The collar isnt going anywhere when it is sandwiched between the old spring perch and the coil tension.
Hhhmm...you...cut..the..spring...to... remove..the spring 🤣 I can tell you made first part on Saturday it was super windy down here in Mississippi
Ad a tube spacer under the strut insert or she’s gone be loose goosie jumpin in your shock housing. The top nut should be tightening everything up
Love the videos, great to see a build on an old wagon. Love that you involve your kidscin the vids. I just wish you would wear saefty glasses when grinding and using the wire wheel, you only get one set of eyes man.
Awesome car. I had heaps of them 20 years ago. I used E25 leaf springs in the back of my E30 sedan to lower it.
Where did you find the shocks
The Toyota would have drum brakes correct? Also fantastic build so far can’t wait to see the end results!!!
Hey bud. Just wondering why you didnt put rear shocks and new leaf springs in when you put the lowering blocks in. All new in the front then just left the old crap in the back
Nicely done sir! No word at the end of the episode????
Heavy Duty Undie Cleaner ... that needs to be a t-shirt!
This is gonna be sick!
Nice job man! Love from germany ♡
where did you get the struts?
Rear disk brake conversion?
When he pointed the end of that coilspring at his face in the into i shuddered.
dang, that looks hot. can't wait til it's done.
Did I just hear that the fender flares are "on the way"? Not custom this time? Still a cool little wagon. Looks good!
Bruhh...... get you some eye protection. Had me in cringe when you broke out that wire wheel. Love how the build is coming, can't wait to see how it turns out. Keep it goin!!!
Can't wait to see when it's finished 👊😀
O no, the old spring ‘snapped’ in half 👌
Needs smaller tires so you can drop it lower. Dont forget the springs will settle some so you might not need to drop them much to match the rear.
Surprised you didn't go with a steel threaded coilover sleeve kit. The advantage with them is you can weld them to the strut sleeve rather than relying on rubber O rings to stop the rattling.

why u cut that part at 5:42
The CLAPPED corolla looking awesome!
Looks awesome!!
Not going to show you the way I’m going to do it!!
With the cutoff grinder next to it. Haha. Perfect.
I need to get some 'heavy duty undie cleaner'.
Is it just me or would that thing be sick with a moon roof? also you where my inspiration to start a channel:)
I think I had the e36 top hats on my old Corola and they fit fine
love ur vids dude
Kind of surprised you don't just convert to s13 240sx front suspension being a bolt in and has plenty of coilover options
Damn i miss all of my old toys. Custom chopping is the only way. I never did any quality work like this though. Great job! So many cars none for more than $300 now in my searching most run around 15k...to only do again........
Sick m8! 🔥🔥🔥
Greetings from Germany ✌️✌️
Look into getting older Camaro shocks for the rear.
This so makes me want to build a old car now!
Ive got a gold 1990 Corolla wagon that im about to work on too
Man i just might do this. There are no coilovers for my 1999 saab 9-3
Look at garret seesing's channel he upgraded a Toyota corolla just like yours with a volley snipper fuel injection system. Made it run perfect.
Looks mean man....well done👌
New rear shocks?
That's looking sick...
Hey man a pressure washer would help a lot when cleaning stuff like this I use it on my tractors that hadn't been cleaned in 5 plus years till I inherited them after my dad passed since he didn't have the time to clean them properly
