Moving from my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the m3 pro with 18g of RAM has been a pleasure. The old machine is about three times thicker and heavy as hell. It also needs a hard drive replacement which I may try to do myself.
How much noise does the 16" M3 MacBook Pro make when you load it and when does it start when opening a program or during editing or exporting?

I’ve noticed this issue as well, my 2017 MacBook Air 13” keyboard held up well even after 2 years.
My 13” MBP M1 didn’t, after just a few months the keys already started looking shiny.
I’m upgrading to the 18 core m3 pro 16”, now I’m anxious as to how the keys will hold up.
At this price point, the least greedy Tim Apple could do is come up with something like glass or ceramic keycaps but that’s wishful thinking.
What specs did you get?
I just came back from store to check the new color out and I am very impressed, the fingerprint resistance is on point, I really tried to smear it and it held up very well, some people stated that it is more "dark gray" than black but to me it was dark enough to be black, I've also learned that it made the display so much more immersive, both on the 14 and 16 inch. I've always been a silver fan but the space black has won me over.
I'm confused also if i go Silver or Space Black, I'm getting the base 16 inches 18GB RAM 512GB.
What do you think, which color is much better?

Although, personally I just love the classic silver look too much. Plus it hides fingerprints and imperfections better. 😅

I relate to this laptop being for those with Intel-based Macs. My first laptop was a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) with an i5-5250U CPU (5th Gen, 1.8 GHz Dual-core). I had been wanting a new laptop for years, and once I got a job, I was finally able to start saving for a laptop designed for video editing. I finished saving a little bit after the release of the M3 Pro MacBook Pro. So this was what I now have with 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and the higher end M3 Pro chip.
It is night and day. The screen is so much better, and the laptop is able to export Final Cut Pro projects in less than half the time. I shouldn't have to make proxies anymore, a process that took several hours with my previous laptop. I can't wait to do more video reports to see this machine in action!
Havent learned one thing with this review. Im not sure what is meant with “Long Term Review” after one month. but even after only one month there will be things to compare. for instance against other 14” laptops or the Macbook Air m2 which is extremely popular against the 14” Pro in M3. Worth the upgrade? Or have as additional laptop?

I paid 2k for the base M3 Pro spec, as a first time Mac owner. It went on sale shortly after for 1800 and I am blown away at the cost-performance from this device. I have a desktop that allows me to not need a super beefy laptop, so the 3K + price tag to really spec out the M3 Pro or Max wasn't worth it. For something that can do anything on the fly, you can't beat it!

I use alcohol wipes on the keyboard to keep it clean. Oil on your skin transfers to the keyboard which makes it shiny.

Good video. Before this video came out, I had ordered the Space Black M3 Pro MacBook Pro (36 GB ram/1 TB ssd) model and it was delivered on Nov 8th, 2023. This laptop was intended to replace a very trusty 2018 maxed out Intel MacBook Air - assisted by a Blackmagic eGPU. That combo was quite adequate for my needs. However, after 6 years, I was running out of usable internal ssd storage space on my 2018 MBA (512 GB ssd) and I was really curious and desired an Apple Silicon based laptop upgrade. I'm an interior architecture student, this year is ending and I'm looking for a new laptop, I'm using Intel, some people suggested M3 Pro. I can buy the one with 16gb ram and 1tb ssd. (my budget). Today I was, again, visiting Mediamarkt here in Switzerland. I tried out the Amacbook Air M1, great machine, just awesome. I went through the Air M2... didn't feel a jolt... then I opened up the MacBook Pro M3 Pro, I know... it is hard to tell any difference between all these great computers from Apple but the speakers from the later was just fantastic. Man, it was the sweetest sound for sore ears. So rich, so relaxing perfect. My wallet says MacBook Air M1 16 GB Ram but my heart sys MacBook Pro M3 Pro. I am one of the lucky winners buying MacBook Pro mid 2015 and it is still my work horse for video editing and is like a son to me LOL.

So in school we used pen and paper so it never occurred to me to buy a laptop in college, we were handed out all our notes in the classes, I used pen and paper and then when I went home I used to family computer for my homework/assignments.... It wasn't until when I went to American I bought my 1st ever Macbook Pro 2011 and to be fair to it, it lasted me 7.5 years, however when i bought my OLED ThinkPad X1 Extreme in 2019 I noticed a glitch in the screen that happened just towards the end of my warranty and then started again afterwards so I sold it this year, it had an i9-9880H chip 64GBs of DDR4, but I sold it for €1000 recently because I knew what was around the corner. I treated myself to a Macbook Pro M3 Max (16-core) 2TB. 64GBs of RAM for Christmas because life is just too short to be worrying about machines slowing down and having issues 2 years after purchase. Don't cheap out on computers folks.

Exactly. I’m using a butterfly keyboard MBP from 2019 and yet it still doesn’t look as bad as some of the newer ones I saw which are only a few months old. I think Apple somehow changed to a cheaper plastic since switching back to using scissor switches, even the butterfly keys doesn’t have that problem
I bought my first mac a couple weeks ago a 14in m3 MacBook pro 18gb’s ram 512gb ssd. So far i love it the screen battery life and speakers are awesome but i could never have just a mac because i like gaming too much. And i didn’t need the top spec model i have a decently powerful windows laptop with a 13900hx, 64gb’s ram, 4080 and two desktop rigs 7950x3d 4090 and 7800x3d nitro 7900xtx. I just wanted something to surf the web, watch movies and do some light video editing which it does amazingly with the fans hardly ever kicking on. The screen alone was reason enough for me to get the pro over the air. And not sure what black magic apple uses on the speakers man it’s the beat sounding laptop speakers I’ve heard and the 16in is even better. And apples ecosystem is great I have a 15 pro max and airpod 2 pro’s and the integration is seamless. But battery played one of the biggest parts in me getting it my windows laptop is a beast but with all that power comes crappy battery life. And another big advantage the mac has is it has the same performance plugged in or on battery and I normally run it in low power mode to get even more battery life. Its been a learning experience though trying to learn the os and all the little quirks and gestures. But I do see the appeal with it but i do fill base pro’s should be a minimum of 16gb’s of ram and 1tb ssd.

I type a LOT. My keyboards don't just get shiny, they actually wear away the top surface. The black colored surface of the keycaps is fairly thin.

I want a MacBook with 4 thunderbolts. While using the intel, I changed a lot of my stuff to USBC and it would be great if they kept everything from M3 port wise and add just another usbc port. Cuz there are periods where I fill it all up during intense workflow or projects and it’s a life saver.

In so many ways such as data lanes and cores, the M3 Pro and especially the base, was actually the one DOWNGRADE in the lineup compared to the M2. People who purchased this are victims of Apples marketing as usual but even more so the decision to differentiate the Pro line from the Max line this year. You would be better buying a used M2 Pro with some upgrades than the M3 Pro. As far as brightness, it's the same physical screen on the laptop from the M1 until now. I use Vivid app and can even surpass the brightness on the M3 with no major hit to battery or functionality. I've been using the app for maybe 4 years already. Remember this feeling of when the marketing wears off when you get breathless for the next iPhone, Macbook, Studio or the worst thing this year, the microscopic Apple Watch Ultra 2 upgrade.

Maybe we started to get confused about performance expectations due to the new chip nomenclature. Years ago, a few Cores or MHz were added to a new version of the i5, i7 or i9 chips, and the increase in performance was not extraordinary either. The name os the chips stayed the same through out the years. It was a gradual advance step by step. Of course, the jump from the Intel platform to the Mx chips was absurd. But now, the evolution of these chips seems to have returned to the pace it was before. The big change was in the architecture, and now from one version to another, the chips evolve more slowly again. Although the names M1, M2 and M3 suggest a great change, maybe it is us expecting a big difference in performance (as if it were a change jumping from i5, to i7 or to i9). It seems we are back to small and gradual upgrades on this new M architecture.
I have m3 and I'm not really happy. So laggy, trackpad is laggy when scrolling. Still love my mac air m1 16 gig. Perfect

Maybe, just maybe… clean your keyboard. I type a lot and I just clean the keyboard and guess what? No “shining keyboard”. No problem at all, good as new.
Yeap all it takes is a microfiber cloth with some water on it and that should be enough.

Hate ... hate! the subpar-quality keys! While we're at it, the screen ... the antiglare film is madenning. The most difficult thing to keep clean. These are the two worst things about my MacBook M1 Pro. It's staggering that two generations later (well, since MacBooks were first released) these issues remain. My XPS 9530 is far, far easier to keep clean. Thumbs down, Apple! (Very sound conclusions, though, regarding those for whom the M3 P/M is really for. Thumbs up, Arthur!)

Thank you! Finally somebody mentions the total crap plastic material Apple uses on its keycaps! They get smudgy from even cleanest fingers, and after a very short usage time, they wear down and the yuk shine is there forever. I don’t know what plastic it is either, probably ABS. If they used a bit more expensive material, like PBT with a slight texture, they would feel better, not get shiny and wear down like these do.
Why does “nobody” talk about how greasy and shiny the keycaps get? How the shine gets ingrained into them after a few months. Well you did, so thank you! I wish more users would complain. It is an easy design fix, use better material! Apple you can do better! And MacBook owners, please complain, this can be improved 🙂

@@Dardania lol, not crying, just a wish that the quality of the material of the keycaps would some day match the rest of the excellent build quality of the MacBook. Not an Apple fanboy, have used other devices much more, but I have to admit and give credit, since the launch of M chip based laptops, as far as laptops go, the HW is outstanding in the usage category they target. However, regarding macOS, I have a lot of nits about its quirks, but meh, slowly getting used to them 🤷🏻♂️🙂
My three-year-old MB Pro 13 keyboard is pristine. I do look after it by cleaning it regularly and dusting it down at the end of the day (it is not dust-resistant, so it's always a food idea). I dunno; I get the impression people think that everything should be rainbows and unicorns instead of using common sense and doing some basic cleaning to keep it pristine. Anyway, that is just my take.
@@andyH_England If you use custom keyboards where you can select keycaps made out of different plastic materials, you will find that ABS wears down reasonably fast, and gets permanently shiny, just like the caps on MacBooks, and sure most Windows laptop keyboards too. However, if you use PBT plastic as keycap material, you don't have this issue. So it just baffles me that Apple, that otherwise is quite focused on a high quality build and the feel of the product, have not put a bit more effort into the keycap material selection and their surface texture. Would be quite a simple improvement. That's all. 🙂
I use a super thin keyboard protection on my MBP 15, 5 years old, benefit - a lot less dust in the computer and the keyboard looks brand-new.
Please give me Linux on this hardware already. I despise the macOS with all my gut.
If you own. 2020 MacBook Pro with the 9880hk and the pro 5600m, no need to upgrade. The 5600m still outperforms the m3 graphics in some respects

al the reviews are garbage. there isn't 1 review about 3d animation, rendering, modeling performance from a user perspective. All we get is a cinebench score, the color difference, how thin the bezel is. what do I care if it's pink or blue?!

The only problem with the arabic model is the left shift button.
it small and not unified with the right shift.
