- I’ve been restoring a c.1790 federal home in South Carolina. This video will give you a bit of an overview of the progress I have made with the interiors thus far and share a little run in with my resident ghost!

You don't need a priest for ghost, you need a plumber. The reality is you probably have a drainage problem. Drainage Problems - Symptoms
This could include flooding or slow draining due to blockages, or bad odours within your house. It could also include leaks, or strange noises coming from your drainage systems. Regardless, drainage issues from interior pipes or French drains in the yard can seriously ruin your day and lead to expensive repairs. Keep an eye out for asbestos it hides in the original siding on your house and your pipes. Don't go anywhere love having you on TH-cam so refreshing!
That pool house is so cozy, I love the natural wood…reminds me of a great Adirondack camp bedroom…..don’t paint!You can add a gathered skirt under the kitchen sink for a English country look ❤️

Love the updated video of Cedar Grove. It’s such a stately home with so much wonderful history. Fortunately, the right person bought her and you will bring her back to her glory. I have to admit the ghost story made me feel uneasy. I don’t think I could stay there alone.
As far as the pool house, I love the wood. With your decor and style it will be fabulous.

I love what’s going on in the house! This will take time and as you said you will change your mind 100 times! As for the pool house, I think you should keep the refrigerator maybe update it to stainless steel. Keep the dishwasher. Outfit the pool house for pool parties and you put dishes and refrigerated snacks then when the party is over you clean up in the pool house!
I was thinking this too! So much easier then taking everything into the main house!

I’ve come to the conclusion that any old house is probably haunted. I grew up in a very old house in New York State. I believe it was built around 1840. We had multiple ghosts. None of them were nefarious, so no one was really scared. There would just be weird things that would happen like objects changing position, strange noises, or just a feeling of someone watching you when you were the only one in a room. It’s easy to learn to live with and well worth the character of old houses.

What a beautiful home. So nice to follow your journey to make it yours. I must say, I could never stay there alone after knowing the story... then hearing the knocking. When you are there with someone.. you can explore together when the knocking happens in the night. Maybe its just knocking pipes. I would have to tell myself that , or I could never sleep there. I admire people who can.

Love following along with your progress! Thank you for sharing this- it’s like watching a Marco Polo from a friend. Exposed wood isn’t normally my style, either, but I think you should keep the pool house walls as they are. My grandparents used all exposed wood panels from trees that came from the property when they built their beach cottage in the 50s- and my parents’ generation painted it all white in the 90s. We all regret that now. So pretend it’s your little Old Florida cabin and enjoy stepping out of your normal style 😊

Hi Brian! Wow the house is coming together beautifully! I love it! I had no idea you had so much furniture to fill this!!! Your placement of wall art and furniture is amazing! I like the wood in the pool house. Maybe by just painting the ceiling it's enough. Don't rush into anything....you can always paint the walls if you decide you don't like the wood. I think the pool house is going to look charming with the addition of the French doors. I love all the bedrooms and the beds are amazing! Oh, Darling, I'm amazed that you've accomplished so much since the last video. I really like the green Window swags in the dining room (I know that you don't). Instead of spending a lot of money on a triple pedestal table, why don't you try living with a big skirted plywood table for a while? You can have one made for cheap (that was Dixie Carter's solution for a long time until she found exactly what she wanted). And the covering options are endless!
I loved your Old Town home so much, and I know that you will turn this house into an absolute jewel box. I cannot wait until the next episode!

As for your little in house spirit, try speaking to her, letting her know you understand why she is there. That may settle her down if she thinks you mean her no harm.

The Library looks so great! Thanks for the update, you are making so much progress! I think painting the pool house would make it feel like it is more a part of the flow of the house if it was a creamy white or something. I really love the 3 panels of art in the main hall. Those look great!
Always fun seeing the progress! Keep the pool house fridge and dishwasher!…get clever with the facings if it’s the aesthetics but you for those soon to come pool parties, events and any guests that come to stay will find they are invaluable!!!
Love that you are sharing with us and this fabulous restoration! There are many lovely plantations in South Carolina and I know that many of them would love to have you see what they have done and could probably share sources of great craftsmen in the area. Don't paint the poolhouse--it is great as is but good idea with the fridge. Thanks for the great episodes!
Brian, you need to exorcise the ghost that keeps coming to the house by calling a priest or pastor or minister who will come and bless the house and pray for the peace and eternal rest of the spirit. Don’t just ignore it because it’s spooky to have something like this visiting your beautiful house and finding strange happenings.

I agree. God bless the soul of that poor girl. Having died an indentured servant she never was given her freedom and now her poor soul is not free. It is attached to the house.

I love all the antique furniture and wish that china cabinet was in my dining room ❤. Honestly every weekend I go by the thrift stores of every kind searching for really nice one that's not in such bad condition this has been for 6 years now 😅. Please stay safe & get some cameras in every room to monitor what's going on. The world isn't as kind as you are.
Leave the walls unpainted at this point, live with it for awhile. You can always paint it..
I’m going to start painting eventually but I have already changed what I was going to do after living with it for a little while. But the theme will still be the same as my original plan

I had to chuckle when you were talking about the kitchen painting going slowly. Welcome to SC! Everything runs at its own pace. No one is in a hurry and contractors of any kind are difficult to find. I live in Aiken and I’m still looking for someone to paint the shutters on my house. It’s been over a year now.

LOVE the ghost story! We had one in Park Slope years ago. You could hear distinct footsteps on the stairs and of course, no one was ever there. The paneling in the pool house is a little weird. Pickling it lighter might help. The studio apartment feels strange as well. Maybe just a big sleepable sofa? I’d just make it a sitting area with a bar and pool shower. Just thinking! I love the house.

Thank you for the updated tour!! I get so much inspiration from your decor. I would leave the pool house wood as it gives such warmth to the room. Maybe a Smeg refrigerator would go with the vintage look. They are narrow and don’t take up too much room. But it would not fit where the dishwasher is located. Love the twin beds and the canopy bed!!

Have you considered using the pool house as a party room or bar? If that appeals to you, you might consider keeping the dishwasher (so you don't have to haul barware into the main house) and upgrading to a full-size refrigerator or installing pullout refrigerator drawers.

I think your intuition to keep the wood in the pool house is right on. It is actually beautiful and warm. Painting the ceiling and adding fabric sounds like the perfect addition to soften it. Brian, all those pool house appliances serve the pool area when you entertain. Easier to wash towels, serve food, large fridge can handle platters and make ice. So much better than hauling everything to and from the main house. Do you think of it as more of a guest house? Love every inch of the property. Kisses to Oatsie.

Loving what you're doing and can't wait to see the upstairs wallpaper. I think some rich deep colors on some of the walls would pop your decor, as you did with your previous place. With the rooms being so large here, some appear to just be lost. No judgement, just opinion 😜 but I'll wait for your vision to be completed. Thanks for sharing 🙌

Hi Brian, if this is a second comment you get from me today, my apologies, I thought I hit send, but poof! Nothing. I'm so glad I found your channel! I've been following along on IG for years , but watching on a big TV screen is way more fun! My last house was very haunted. It was very interactive and I have its voice capture and videos of my dog interacting with it. I'm curious if your pup will see / feel your "resident". As a fellow old house lover and TH-camr, I think you did great with filming your space and projects! On a side note, I have no idea how to flip the camera around either while on video LOL. Oh and I do love the room with the separate entrance. You may have mentioned it in one of the past videos, but I'm so curious why or what they used the space for. I have always lived in old homes that had hidden rooms, unused/covered spaces, or had many changes. I'm a total geek when it comes to research and exploring; so much so one of my subscribers called me The Nancy Drew of old homes and that pretty much sums it up! PS: No pressure getting the old gal ready for Christmas! (you got this!)
