    Happy Memorial Day everyone (for those who celebrate). In a weird stroke of timing, we visited Fire Island National Seashore on Memorial Day weekend in 2019. Hope you and enjoy and have a great long weekend.

    My wife is crazy about lighthouses. She’d love to go there. It looks like a beautiful place to visit. The beach is gorgeous.

      There are 25 here I think. Some you can only go past in a boat, or see from afar, but done you can visit. This one and Montauk are the two most famous ones. And yes this beach is pristine!

    Look so much relaxing on that long beach. I like the bord walk too. I love the light houses. We never been there. Thank you for sharing 👍

    July 5, 2021 we visited Robert Moses Beach, Field 5. The boardwalk leading to the lighthouse was a nice trek. My fam and I bypassed the lighthouse and decided to climb it after sunbathing in this beautiful beach. After a few hours and a pretty nice sunburn we felt it was impossible to climb the lighthouse! This area is truly beautiful and as native New Yorkers, we will return next month, but only to the Fire Island Lighthouse, motivated by your video.👍

      Thank you so much. We have always said that if we get just one view on a video that inspires someone to check something out, it was worth the effort. It really is a beautiful area. We are trying to find the time to do a midweek camping overnight there, since the weekends are all booked! Definitely let us know what you think of the lighthouse!

      Us too. There are a lot of them, being an island, but this one is possibly my favorite.

      @@MagellanandGreyhound when we would go to the Outer Banks we'd hunt for lighthouses. Really cool!

      That's awesome! You must live nearby. I usually go to the beach at Caumsett since it's much closer.

    We love visiting lighthouses. I love the view of the whole island from the top. It is cool to learn the history of these structures. Thanks for sharing it with us!

    Happy Memorial Day! Its very interesting! The drive to the park seems like driving in key west Florida.. thanks for letting us know the history of the lighthouse.. the view from the top is amazing! Manhattan skyline from here on a clear day..? That would be great! The boathouse seems interesting too! Thanks fir the great video! 😊👍

    • @MagellanandGreyhound
      @MagellanandGreyhound  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s definitely like Key West. The beaches on the south shore are mostly beautiful and yes, I’ve never seen the full skyline because even when it seems clear, there’s still haze in the distance.

    What incredible views from the top! Always have had a love for lighthouses and their history. We have to make a trip to Long Island to see this one in-person. Yes, would love to see the overnight trip.

      @MagellanandGreyhound  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think there are 25 total on Long Island, but not all are accessible. This one is probably our favorite. Montauk isn’t too shabby either 😆

    Can't go wrong with a lighthouse...we have quite a few of them here in the Maritimes...although most, if not all, of them are unmanned now. Many too are kept in good shape by the communities where they are located. Such great beacons of safety and security and good just to have a place to visit by the ocean!

    • @MagellanandGreyhound

      It’s amazing how lighthouses even now are still important, no matter how much technology we develop.

    This is so lovely you guys!! We actually love lighthouses because they are so beautiful and help steer ships to let them know where the coast is! So cool the view from above and didn't know that there was an original one and then a second one is rebuilt! Thanks for showing us around! We really enjoyed the tour! Wedee's auntie actually lives in long island so maybe we can check this out one day! The steps look pretty steep so be careful! The beach is just so stunning!

      We always love places that have multiple things to do. The beach alone is worth it. But it's hard to beat a view from above.

    That looks like a great place to visit, but wouldn’t occupy a whole day. Any recommendations for other activities in the area? Thanks for sharing!

    • @MagellanandGreyhound
      @MagellanandGreyhound  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the lighthouse and beach wont take you all day, but you can camp overnight in certain sections (which is fun) and there are little towns you can take the ferry over to visit too (although they don't allow bikes I think). As far as other stuff nearby, if you go west from the lighthouse and across bridge etc, you can take the Ocean Parkway/Jones Beach bike path. Its like 20 miles, really beautiful. May go and do a video on it one day. After that, continuing west, there's Long Beach, which is a really cool beach town, with a boardwalk, eateries, etc. Crazy in summer.
