    I sat on Mr. Ernest Warther's lap 46 years ago as he carved a pair of pliers for me. I've never forgotten that man. My pliers were lost many years ago but the memory will remain forever. If any of you get the chance to go to the house (museum) in Dover, I highly recommend it. The carvings are unbelievable. Mr. Warther actually carved a tree useing the plier cut; opening into smaller and smaller pliers until it looks like a tree. Mr. Warther's most magnificent carving is Lincoln's funeral train. It is beautiful!
    Many thank's to the Warther family!
    God bless you all!

    The Warther family has lived relatively near me for generations. My father has a few things made from "Mooney". The wooden pliers being one of them. I remember my dad showing them to me when i was kid telling me how amazing it was when he made them and handed them to him, and about all the cool stuff he had out and crafted. If I remember right my dad said he traveled and it was tradition for my grand father to take my Dad and uncles out to see him. Either that or had a workshop and they had a tradition of going to watch him work. He is going to be really happy to know they're still around and still doing the same thing. He used to always say he wished they were still around so we could go when I was kid.

    I met Earnest and later David hen I was a kid and still have the pliers. Now I'm 57 and went back in 2018 and the son in law made them. Someone asked how there made and he said you have to figure it out. Since then I figured it out. I just learned about this site today 27 Nov 19. I'm proud I figured it out without cheating. If you can ever find your way there, you must go and take the tour to see the priceless works of art carvings of the trains, the pliers tree, and the factory of where he once worked at all carved out, it's part of the tour; just awesome. Oh yeah, check out the restored original home and the button collection. One of Abraham Lincoln's wife's button is there too. Just an amazing mind.

      I visited in the mid 70s still have the little booklet with pics of some of the trains. It was a awe-inspiring place to visit and I hope to take my grandkids soon before today's society in general distracts them...

      On the positive side, The son of David, Mark Warther guides tours and runs the museum. He does the same pliers demo as his father did for more than 20,000 visitors per year and hands them out! You can purchase additional wooden pliers in the gift shop.

    Just went to the Mooney Warther Museum yesterday. Fantastic craftsmanship from this guy’s father, and the man’s story was cool too. If you’re ever in Ohio, go check it out, but make sure you dedicate a whole day. It’s a small place, but there’s so much to see and learn

    I visited the museum probably close to 30 years ago. It was a fascinating place with some amazing examples of woodcraft from Mr Warther. That said, the pliers that they demonstrated for us and handed out at the end were the highlight of the visit.

    Hello,
    I have a one of a kind maple bowl hand carved by David Warther. My wife had 2 of their kids as students. The kids liked my wife a lot and had David make her a bowl as a special gift. These bowls were never available to the public. Is there anywhere I can find info on it as to the value and demand? Thanks!

      Two thoughts here. Contact either of the two Warther museums and inquire therein. David Warther Carvings Homepage: warther.org/ AND The Earnest Mooney Warner Carving Museum: thewarthermuseum.com/, ask for Mark Warther or another family member. You may also inquire direct to Mark Warther on his Facebook page: facebook.com/mark.warther.16

    How much pressure can you exert on a pair of wooden pliers? If I can't use my hand to grab/crank/pull or hold something... how is a something made from softwood supposed to do the job? I usually put a lot force on my pliers (probably because I end up using them for something they weren't really intended for) --- definitely neat but it didn't look particularly strong. Maybe I'm just a plier abuser..

    • @wizzlestick111
      @wizzlestick111 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They wouldnt be practical in most uses, but as someone who works on a bunch of different projects I can see them being useful. For projects where you dont want to mar the surface such as glass work and you just need it to hold still, or if you are holding something that is generating heat. Not many uses, but i think its more a demonstration of the carvers ability than practical tool. The wood looks like a soft wood such as poplar thats cheap and easy to cut with a knife, oak would require a saw to cut that easily.

    • @francisbawasanta6310
      @francisbawasanta6310 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1
