John so sorry for your loss in Florida. Know what your going through. Our Cape Coral canalfront winter house is structurally ok but interior and contents a total loss. We always knew it was a matter of time. Insurance and Fema aid may cover half.
I went to Cape Coral High in the early 90s and we'd fish Pine Island all the time. Glad you weren't down there yet. Hope my old friends are ok. Odd trivia: Cape Coral has more canals than Venice, Italy
Those cows give up quickly, but it's still a struggle to pull them in as they use their body's weight.

Nice bike … sorry about your house in Florida .. I been riding a fat tire bike on the beach for 2 years but not electric just to ride from Mount Sinai all the way to Rocky point fishing the stretch on the bike at night
Wow on your bike use! I grew up fishing the beach in Miller Place, so I know that stretch well.
So John - I know you occasionally harvest fish - how do you bring them back - and/or bleed them out?

Mr Skinner I live here in South Florida but East Coast as of today 10/5 there is now a Bridge to Pine Island Gov DeSantis and the Army Corp of Engineers mad that a priority they just had the press conference announcing that the bridge they constructed is now open.

Not very well since becoming a snowbird and losing the off-season. I hang lures on wire, rods in racks, and I have several old dressers with stuff.

Local Tackle shop owner and Friend has a House on Pine Island, His wife posted Heavily damaged. Fla Gov said today getting some kind of Bridge to Pine Island and Sanibel island will begin soon
I've seen video of the work already underway in Matlacha. It won't be long. Power is another thing though.
Very sorry about the Florida house, John. If you live in this state long enough, you will experience a bad storm at least once. All you can do is be prepared to look out for yourself for 3-5 days, evacuate if the situation calls for it and keep paying your insurance premiums.

Came through superstorm Sandy because national flood insurance was there! Was out of my primary residence for almost a year though for the rebuild. Recommend everyone get it.

Things Can happen fast on those E bikes .Motorcycle fast. Cool though. Keep doing it like your doing it & have fun. The hurricane deal was a bummer but that’s coastal living.it’s terrific,until it isn’t. I was drinking & weathered one out in the 80s .knew it was going to be big. Knew the bar owner & it was built like a bunker. A little water under the door but not doing that again .Fran got our ocean front middle of the island (Topsail/Surf City NC)big time. All the windows & doors,steps,decks,ect. On stilts.had to get a big ladder to climb in it .Camped out in it for weeks fishing. Full sheet of plywood was hanging out of living room ceiling..Had given the drinks a break that year. Take care.

Really envious of your flounder fishing. 15" minimum size limit here in Texas. Season closed November thru December. 20" flounder here is a trophy.

Glad you did well. My neighborhood looks like a war zone, but reports from those who got into their houses on my street said they did not flood, and mine is newer, so I might be OK. Heading south in the morning.
my parents are in cape coral. they have someone else's 23 ft pontoon boat on the lawn in their backyard that floated down their canal during the flooding. what a crazy storm

my condolences and best wishes for your neighbors . Fishermen who know what their water should learn from Ian that all gently sloping bottom going away from the beach like we have in the gulf, the keys, and north of palm beach county along the Atlantic coast through Jacksonville Georgia and and the Carolinas are just like Bangladesh - lots of gently sloping seafloor away from the coast that is very susceptible to severe hurricane storm surge more than other geographies.

Hey John: Hope your Florida home didn’t sustain too very much damage. Here in Cape Coral we’re in recovery mode. Finally have water but no electric, and no access to favorite fishing launches in the area. BTW, recently, before Ian, I fished around York Island off St. James City. There are some great flats there with great fishing.

My place is intact. Homes on our block did not flood. We're hopeful, but no access until at least the weekend.
The salt air and spray is going to destroy any electric bike in short order. You should consider that before purchasing one.

All evidence based on our neighbors is that it is not flooded. Because the home is new, it had to be elevated to the 7' code. Older homes in the neighborhood that are lower had 6-12 inches from the reports, but the homes on my street did not flood.
Good to hear John, wonder if you can grab anything up north to fix it up you may need before it gets any crazier
That's my full-time job right now. Getting stuff together to head down at the end of the week.

Is an off road permit required by any of the east end towns (particularly Southampton) or by Suffolk County if you're on an e-bike?
I'd check with the individual towns because things change.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing darn right they do .they have a motor so they are motor vehicles. I found that out the annoying way with my 5year old and the fastest & heaviest hoverboard made. Santa had to have the “best”.Santa wound up Lugging that thing a couple miles on isle of palms SC one spring. Fun stuff. Can’t ride on sidewalks & 5 year old in the road with suburbans & Porsche. Nada.hit the sand and that was fine until she found the tidal pools. Zap. $350 down the drain..lesson learned. Have fun.

Well, I can definitely say I’m no John skinner hahahaha, I just got off the beach and had about a dozen fish all 25-27” and really fat with one keeper mixed in, unfortunately I dropped the one better 33-35” fish right at the bank, not a monster by any means but with it still pretty quiet and just getting going out there, I woulda really enjoyed getting the fish on the beach lol, guess that’s what keeps ya goin back, keep up the great work and I hope everything works out down in Florida for ya, tight lines

Because my dealer will not service fat tire e bike because what the salt does to the bike
Plus getting parts he only carries Bosch and shimmano.
I want to get one. But not sure who will service the drive motors
