      Yes, and so far, all of them that were completely without packaging did not work, and all DIY recipes failed, too. I admit that I shave my armpits with a straight razor -- or sometimes a DE safety razor, when I don't have the time to strop the straight before and cleaning and drying and storing it away afterward. This means that my armpit skin is a bit more sensitive than average. Drugstore deodorant works well, but both the Lush T'eo and the Ben&Anna stick gave me irritation. The Ben&Anna stick also gave my mother irritation, and she doesn't shave anything at all. The Lush Guv'ner did not give me any irritation, but dyed-in-the-wool zero wasters will not accept this because it comes in a plastic bottle. The Guv'ner contains bicarb, like the T'eo, Ben&Anna and all DIY deodorants I ever whipped up myself, but I think it doesn't give me a rash because it also contains a lot of charcoal and arrowroot powder.

    $25 for a crystal deodorant?! That's crazy!

  • @fevkin
    @fevkin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The crystal deodorant could last a year but does anyone have a fix for the problem I find with it? It gets dettached over time from the base, then the crystal flies out of the 'capsule' and smashes to smithereens. I tried wrapping gaffa tape round the base which served to jam it in the container for a while but the water eventually washed it off and I was back to square one

    • @hoosieraussis1
      @hoosieraussis1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Take care that you aren't getting moisture into the base of the container which will cause it to gradually dissolve and detach. I just add water or some rose-water/lavender water, ect. directly to my underarm before applying the crystal.

      If your crystal gets smashed, jus mix it with water and put in a spritzer bottle, you now have a spray deodorant.

    I stopped using chemical deodrant for about 5 months, but then I lost it today because I was smelling so bad so I used a chemical deodrant once! D';
    So does that mean I still need to detox even though I only used it once?! :O
    I'm really scared, I don't have the money to keep buying new stuff, I've already had some dud deodrants called Ben & Anna's which didn't work AT ALL!

    • @mordecai8707
      @mordecai8707 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest watching this video to see if you were using the crystal correctly: th-cam.com/video/2ZLUk04R_rw/w-d-xo.html
      Also, it might be best to layer the crystal under deodorant as the crystal is just to stop bacteria from growing. If there’s bacteria there already and you apply it, the crystal is kind of useless and a deodorant will be better

      Sweety, "armpit detoxing" is a total bs advertising term used by most natural deodorant brands and influencers. You can ask any reputable dermatologist or listen to the scientific consensus on this matter. There's no such thing as armpit detoxing, your liver and kidneys are the organs that filter and expell harmful chemicals out of your body, there's absolutely no way you can remove these compounds through your sweat glands or anywhere out of your skin. It is true that sweat can expell certain toxins like heavy metals out of your body but no product can force or enhance this natural process.
      With that being said, the bad smell under your armpits is produced by natural occuring bacteria that live on your skin and thrive on your sweat and multiply and produce gas.
      Antiperspirants work by clogging your sweat glands and so decreasing sweating to a minimum, not letting bacteria thrive on your armpits, hence better odor management.
      Deodorants work by using ingredients that have antibacterial properties. They don't keep you from sweating but try to control the bacteria overgrowth through the ingredients to avoid the bad smell.
      The best and most effective time to apply deodorants or antiperspirants is right after shower (even if you shower at night). This will ensure said product effectiveness either by clogging your sweat glands and/or by leaving an antibacterial layer protecting the area from bacteria overgrowth and consequential bad odor.
      Some people simply sweat more than others and that will obviously have an impact particularly on deodorants efficacy. If you sweat excessively (hyperhidrosis), your sweat ends up messing the antibacterial deodorant layer leading to bacteria overgrowth and bad odor.
      If this is your issue you can seek a dermatologist because there are treatments for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
      If you haven't being applying your deodorant right after showering, do so. This is a must for best efficacy and efficiency.
      I've been watching biork crystal deodorant reviews because I'm really interested in this product and I'm trying to get as much information I can about it before i go ahead and purchase it. I've been using antiperspirants all my life but I want to drastically reduce my waste and carbon footprint and this product seems to be an amazing swap, totally biodegradable and over a year long lasting almost has me sold!
      With that being said, i watch these kinds of videos with a grain of salt and try to take deep breaths when i hear pseudoscience claims... Such as armpit detoxing lol.
      The reasons I'm considering this product are:
      1- it's made in Switzerland and the cork is sourced in Portugal, where I live, and it not only helps my country's economy, it also requires way less transport pollution to reach me than other brands.
      2- they sell stone refills and the product is totally biodegradable and compostable.
      3- lasts over a year!
      Now i just need to keep investigating if it's really works.
