  • Between the many available on the market, they all have horrific packaging, are filled with toxins and are used up quickly.
    This home made recipe reduces any packaging, allows you to pick your essential oil, bulk buy coconut oil. All the ingredients can also be found in glass containers which is a much better alternative to plastic or aerosol cans!

    How much of the ingredients need to be mixed?
    A simpler mixture is abt 1 tsp of fresh parsley mixed w/4 oz of apple cider vinegar (mash it up really good), let sit for a while, strain, then put in spray bottle. Can make larger solution. Can add Peppermint, Lavender essential oil, etc. (nothing citrusy). Store in fridge

    Just recently came across this video. Absolutely love your channel! Making my first batch of your insect repellent and can’t wait to try it out! I’m trying out a spray bottle friendly version with fractionated coconut oil and making your rub on recipe as well :-)

    What are the measurements in ounces or parts for each? Are you using therapeutic essential oils or a fragrance oil? This is not clear. Thank you.

    How much of each item are you supposed to use to make the recipe?

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      osogoodgirl it depends on personal preference! Since I do not have any measuring cups I guesstimate. But I would say : one part eucalyptus oil, one part infused alcohol and two parts coconut oil.

    How about making some cat repellent?

  • @LittleBirdieTravel

    I was wondering if the coconut oil makes this harder to spray out of a spray bottle? I also tried a natural bug repellent during my last vacay. Mine was oil based so I had to rub it on... I made a spray without oil also. But I may try this concoction too because I want to compare what works best.... I needed a spray that helped ward off the sand fleas and apparently, they are not as easy to repel!

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Little Birdie Travel flies are the absolute worst! almost impossible to ward off. Where I'm going the coconut oil will be in liquid form as it's very very hot so it should be okay to spray. otherwise rubbing it in works well. Let me know what you figure out to be the best combination! Always excited to learn and adjust

    Great idea... is there a life span on how long you can keep a batch? ❤️

    • @OceanPancake
      @OceanPancake  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Food For Thriving thank you so much! I have kept mine for over a month without a problem, these ingredients don't tend to go bad so I wouldn't assume there should be a problem keeping it longer. :)

    I would suggest a different alcohol - plain grain alcohol, even vodka is better. Isopropyl is toxic - just full of garbage. Good indication is when something smells awful, it probably is..lol .One part eucalyptus oil??! That's an awful lot if it's an essential oil..was it pure essential oil, or some kind of infused oil, cut with a carrier oil?? I love the idea of the clove infused alcohol as the base. I suspect the original recipe calls for coconut oil because isopropyl will dry your skin out like crazy. Switch the alcohol and you won't need quite so much coconut oil. Tfs.

      Thanks for the great tips :) This recipe makes a very large amount of strong repellant that you can then dilute.
