    Howdy from the other side of the equator, great to see something British in the US and in O scale to boot. I'm what is commonly referred to (but incorrectly so) as a New Zealand O scale/gauge modeler which is why I have empathy for what you are engaged in here. The scale of our rolling stock is 1/33.86 ish based on the mainline gauge here in NZ being 3' 6" and as we use British O scale track gauge to run our trains on it results in the unusual scale.
    It's just nice to see something different from the US modeling scene so I'll join you on your journey as you work through completing your layout, thanks for sharing your work with us.

    Superb workmanship and layout theme. In particular, your cloud painting is absolutely gorgeous!
    My grandfather (steam) and uncle (steam/diesel/inspector) drove trains for Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail), and your layout reminds me so much of the countryside that my family and I would pass through when going on holiday. Best wishes.

      Thank you. I spent a college semester near Galway in the fall of 92. Absolutely love Irish Rail history. If there were more options for Irish models in O gauge, I'd be extremely tempted.

      Small world. Actually, I’m originally from Dublin. We came to the States when I was ten.
      You might be interested in checking Irish Rail’s TH-cam channel. It has an interesting mix of history and current projects. th-cam.com/video/wDxYbuhljl8/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
      Galway was a regular destination for my grandfather and uncle. In fact, my uncle was his father’s fireman for several years. “Keep that fire hot, Tommy.” 🤓
      All the best.

    Great video, Greg! A beautiful layout in 7mm you have! I’m interested in O gauge also, particularly the Great Western, London & South Western Railway and the London Brighton and South Coast railway as well. I suppose I’ll have to factor in a bit of the Northeast as well as I have a still yet to be built LNER A3 Flying Scotsman kit in 7mm.
    I’m interested to see further progress of this layout and I love that you’ve gone down the shelf along the wall routine for the layout, something I’ve thought about for our new house which we will be starting to build around June/July this year, here’s hoping 🤞.
    You’ve really captured the essence of a typical branchline on the GWR, love the scenery and back scenes too!
    When you have time, do check out my OO scale GWR branchline, Devizes! Various videos of my layout are on my channel including other British layouts here in my home state of South Australia and also a few layouts around our vast country too! There’s a video I’ve uploaded in the past few weeks of an O gauge layout in Sydney which is a GWR junction station if you’re interested? Its called Uley Junction. Some great inspiration with that one.
    Anyhoo, keep up the great work, Greg! I’ve subscribed also.
    Best wishes from Adelaide, South Australia!
    Regards, Caleb

    This is coming along nicely, looking forward to seeing it unfold. It's nice to see an "outsiders" take on British railways, especially one that looks as good as this does. Nice touch with the sky's by the way, adds a lot of interest to the back scene.

    Looking like a great layout with a nice balance of track & scenery. As my own layout focus is GWR late 1930s to early 40s (in OO) I will look forward to watching yours develop. Cheers.

    Lovely Layout. The tansverser is quite nice to see on this side of the pond. Have you thought about putting an industry at the end like Calne had the Bacon Plant or Ashburton its car loading or a much larger Dairy?

    • @Terhaar705
      @Terhaar705  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thank you. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to try a traverser. I'm glad I did, as it's quite practical. The end of the layout (left side) will have a Goods shed, and cattle pen. Plus a engine shed. As it represents a small branch, the dairy won't be overly large, though I'm still working out the details. Don't let me mock up fool you... it's nowhere close to the size I intend. Even a small dairy, built to a prototypical size will be quite large on my layout. I'm intrigued now by the bacon plant, so I intend to do a little research. Bacon is one of my favorite food groups.

    Thanks for sharing this. I am also starting 'something' in O gauge but this would be way to big for me. I have some questions. I think I see some Peco Setrack turnouts: is that because you started with the ST-701 Starter Track Set? And did you add flexible track afterwards? What kind of material do you use under the tracks?

    • @Terhaar705
      @Terhaar705  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They are indeed Peco Setrack turnouts. I did not start with a set. Truthfully I purchased these out of ignorance. They are fine, but they are also tight. Which is why I'm opting to use them for spurs. I will be using larger turnouts going forward. For roadbed I use the Woodland Scenics O scale foam roadbed. It's worked well for me. Good luck!

    Great work Greg, love the video update. What made you choose an english branch line layout ??
    Also, i think, i may be wrong, but i thought the 14xx would have come into the station backwards ?? But i’m no expert

      @Terhaar705  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you. A few reasons; always liked railways in the UK. Most of the available RTR locos are smaller and suitable for branches. Lastly... the space I have for a railway makes more sense to choose a branch. I'm not sure if there was a hard fast rule about which way the loco was oriented when coupled to an AutoCoach. I've seen both orientations.

    • @KennethRankin-r2z
      @KennethRankin-r2z 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Terhaar705 The 14xx would normally run smoke box first as this gave the best protection from the rain for the crew. But not always.
      The 14xx was also coupled between two auto coaches when more passengers were to be carried. They do this on the West Somerset Railway, which is in Somerset UK.
      This is a very nice layout.
