I disagree with some parts of this explanation/ differentiation. 1st being that voudun is an _African American_ spiritual practice. Which mostly, it is not. Secondly, voudun is not centered around the _worshipping_ of the lwa but encompasses elements of herbalism, natural altruistic healing & alchemy along with building a relationship to the lwa. While building relationship to the lwa are important many people practice without devotion to the lwa. It is good to know that there is a difference between hoodoo and voodoo meaning that movie with religion, and Hulu is more like a craft, and I like the fact that it is nature based practically both of them, and it seems that it is more in tune to stewardship of the Earth. I really like this video.
Each individual possesses a unique spiritual journey to undertake, reflecting the diversity of human experience. Frequently, African spirituality is subjected to negative portrayals. Voodoo represents the traditional belief systems of African cultures that predate the Abrahamic faiths as we currently understand them. There exists a significant amount of misunderstanding surrounding these belief systems. A fundamental aspect of these traditions is shamanism, recognized as the oldest religion documented in history. Additionally, it encompasses animistic elements. The common misunderstanding surrounding the veneration of ancestors is that it is merely an act of worship; however, it is rooted in a profound respect for them. Individuals draw upon their symbols and teachings to enhance their spiritual development. The attributes of numerous historical figures are integrated into their practices, emphasizing that the focus is less on the worship of deities and more on the significance of symbolism.
I'm glad I actually grew up in the culture and know how to fact check for myself. How is hoodoo not a religion, yet you say it's practiced alongside a religion? How is Vodun not focused on the natural world when most of the lwa have an elemental nature? There is NO way this information was gathered or researched from an actual vodousaint or rootworker. I get sicka the commercialization of it all. The real question is why do we still need these type of practices, here in the U.S. today, a "developed" country? Hoodoo developed from something not mentioned in the clip OR the full video. Vodun has always existed tho...
..also no shade to the host, she just here for her lil coin. However, the writers and producers come across as very out of touch and the commentary comes off as "outsider looking in". For anyone reading this, know that BOTH Hoodoo and Vodun (in they're true forms) are closed practices to people who are not of African descent. And also closed off from the descendant who would help "the man" enslave us. This is why Haitian Vodun exist AND its cousin Hoodoo. Whether the hoodoo, comes from the Bayou, the Delta, the Ozarks, Appalachia, etc... it's main purpose has ALWAYS been liberation, healing, and protection from dwights.
Vodun is a way of life. You live it everyday you wake up. With research which I have done for years as well as asked family who has practiced wayyyyyy before I was here. Hoodoo is more so "work" spells etc. Take it how you want to take it but how you live ot is just that ....HOW YOU live it. My ancestors didn't practice the same way your did or the next person. So you can't say what is true and not truth or how someone should do this and that. I learnt from my ancestors and will stick to that as you should with yours
If it is male centered in power such as male priest head of the community, then it’s a man made religion. Natural things do not have leadership. They just exist as they are.

"Vo" means Free and "Du" means a nation or a people in the Evwheh and Fon languages in Ghana, Togo, Benin and the south-western part of Nigeria.
Evoa? means are you free? Vovoli, means there's freedom or Liberty.
These words are part of the living words in the day to day language of the living people of West Africa.
Amerika dua means the people of the nation of Amerika.
Now adding the two words together becomes VODU .
VoDu brings liberation and freedom through the harnessing of life forces in herbs , living animals and elements within one's environment.
Cooking with herbs is VoDu, using herbs to heal ailments is VoDu.
Invoking metal and the air and the water elements to empower you through using and eating some selected herbs and saying of words that have the right "frequency" to the wind or the metal in "GU" is enough to be battle ready as done in Haiti.
VoDu is actually a way of life which is staying in balance with nature for sustainability.
No wonder your western church and its military wing Hollywood gave a bad name to VoDu as "vooodooo".
People in church practice Hoodoo. Plenty of Hoodoo practicioners go to church on Sunday to praise white Jesus. & the practice rootwork that same night.
If you were raised around it as you say, then you would know this.
As for the Vodun comments, she's off base with that.
Lovely video. Great info.
Honor and Respect. Voodoo is not a religion, although there's a spiritual aspect to it. The purpose is to build character, which is a personal experience through ways of life and disciplines.
Beautiful practices
I DO LIKE YOUR HAIR STYLES !!!
I'm an Herbalist in the Pacific Northwest. I'm going to New Orleans in October. Where can I learn more about Hoodoo?
Check out Haus of Hoodoo on St. Charles. I think you’ll be right at home as an herbalist.
Which one is more powerful for witchcraft and hexes?
You’re so pretty, and I love the way you speak. Thank you
Yeah, that’s why I refused to inherit the priesthood not grandfather left me voodoo Because of my Christian faith, but I unintentionally still practice tomorrow because I am an herbalist and I find that knowledge very beneficial, but I don’t enter twine it with spirituality after all, I’ll leave everything that comes to faith to Christ And the wisdom he gives me
Hi do you know of any hoodoo rootworker you can refer me to? I really need to speak with one regarding a problem I've been experiencing for a very long time. Thank you
Main diffrerence is voodoo is a religion either creole or hatian that you have to be of certain decent like hatian to do and you have to be initiated into, hoodoo is a african american closed spiritual practice that was used during slavery as a survival tactic that only african americans can do
Yess educate us Tank ❤
Much more than that but this is a great start
Excellent video
Thank you for this information. Beautiful African queen ❤❤
✨️ I love her
Also, Voodoo is sometimes integrated with Catholicism in Haiti. The lwa sometimes share names with Catholic saints
They are both such beautiful practices. Love this!!!
Demonic spirits' 🤦
@@naturalbeauty4734 and I hope they come after you scary ass. Find somebody else to play with.
@@naturalbeauty4734I'm Haitian, we know what voodoo is..... voodoo is God
Jesus Christ is the only way, I was a 3rd generation voodoo priest and Jesus came to me and showed me the truth. Plssssss don’t try voodoo plsss it’s a warning
From what Ive researched there is a difference Voodoo and Vodou. Voodoo has roots in America where is Vodou is Haitian.
I understand it is African in origin, but I am white. I’ve learned some about the subject but I ask, am I barred because of my skin? I feel a strong connection, especially as an iron worker by hobby and a mechanic by trade to Ogun.
Well explained. Now I under the definition
Thank you 😊 🙏 💓
Annnd BOTH ARE CLOSED Practices. Meaning no white man or white women may practice. Iks ❤❤❤❤. As i was taught by my mother and aunties
I've met a white babalou before.
Ok.

Its the occult! You aint no gatekeeper!
@@1thegreat841 I know that now, but I didn't know that 30 years ago. That Linda Levine woman Storm Monroe be having on his show was taught under some practitioners, too. I called her out on that. I don't think she liked that, though.
By her own explanation, Voodoo is not African American.
It includes AA but isn't limited to them, so technically right.
All black people can practice
Voodoo is a religion having its influence from Haitian Vodou/Haitian immigrants but born and flourished and melded culturally on US soil
@@elyseambrose2616 You're referring to Louisiana Voodoo, which is just one aspect of Voodoo. Voodoo exist all thru out the Diaspora.
@@shahross8366 I am. While there is Haitian Vodou, DR Vudú, West African Vodun, etc., the show focuses on the U.S. South so all that is said is contextualized through that lens.
I am Southern and roots are practiced in my family
I love this!!! ❤❤❤
I love you Tank!!❤❤
Needed this information
Can I ask a question…? Can anyone practice it.voodoo.?, I had a friend who was willing to teach me (mind you she is black and her grandmother practiced it too) she did not mind me asking questions and even told me things and stories about it sadly I moved and I haven’t been in contact since. She mentioned African gods a lot…as well as being extremely careful. Serenity I miss you and I hope your doing well 💙💙
Anybody here practice Hoodoo in California? I’d love to connect ❤
SOON THEY'LL BE OUT TO HAUNT YOU, YOUR MENSCH HAVE FALLEN OUT OF GRACE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please explain houndstooth for me
How is hoodo Christian if they cast love spells keyword spells
Where would one learn hodooo?
I’m guessing this is not the Haitian voodoo version… there’s some inconsistencies. I wanted to learn more of hoodoo… thanks
So what are both merged is the question ❓
1 it's ancestor veneration not worship
2 that's Haitian voodu not Louisiana voodu
Is this Tank??? 🥰🥰
Thank you!
Haitians… got to be some of the most luckiest blessed HIGHLY favored people on the planet. Whatever they’re doing must be really working bc look at Haiti. A land of abundant milk and honey. All the hurricanes, earthquakes and destruction is just Mother Natures way of saying “You’re Welcome”.😊
Just out my mom was a hoodoo and voodoo priestess and my aunts
so to DRASTICALLY oversimplify, Hoodoo is basically druidcraft/spiritual medicine, while Voodoo is a whole religion based on the spirit world?
African Ju Ju left the chat
🤣
🤣👀
Why do ppl say African American when they mean African or just black
Ohhhh now it's making sense. The hoodoos at Bryce Canyon national park
Very cool!!
Happy hoodoo month everyone 🫶🏾🫶🏾
❤❤ information
great voice
I read about the trans Atlantic slave trade triangle, all that suffering so rich white folk could drink coffee in England.
It was Africans who beat and caged their own. They were just as corrupt, if not more corrupt than the whites who bought them.
If you're gonna blame the white man, at least be honest for all who deserve the blame
@@cowel8734LIE! Whts was far more brutal!

Tank I love you😢 I just want you to know
Its this tank?
Love my herbs shout out to Charleston SC
It's true but voodoo in West Africa is a philosophy that also incorporates medicine with herbs. In Latin America, it's a religion.
I wish jayakula wasnt a part of my like and the bauls too and kali mandir too

I wish all my problems were fixed.
I wish ann Horowitz and Shambhavi Sarasvati woild stop using others as puppets.
When you're so Black that you don't have to pretend to be Egyptian, Olmec, Hebrew Moors.
Id argue the Brazilians brought voodoo to Africa. Beninn is where many Brazilian traders were doing business and they practiced voodoo
Interesting ❤
I'm heavy in voodoo
I'm heavy in hoodoo
Elements and spirits respect me
So if voodoo originated in Benin & Togo then made its way to Haiti how is that an African American spiritual practice. Black does not = African American
I know, she contradicted herself.
Why not save your criticism for that Bible. Lots of contradictions in that book.
@@mothermaat3258because that's a different topic. Right now we're talking about her contradiction

No wonder your western church and its military wing Hollywood gave a bad name to VoDu as "vooodooo".
America is not just the US. The islands in the Caribbean Sea such as the Greater Antilles archipelago that includes Hispaniola (where Haiti is) are generally considered part of North America. This is similar to how Japan is considered part of Asia. Geography bro…
