There are universal rituals and beliefs, but you are right there are individual practices one should heed and do once initiated that are for that person only. Even family members of the same practice of religion have their own individual rituals to perform on a specific date, time and place for a particular deity.

I remember when I lived in Puerto Rico my grandparents did Santeria, we didn't understand it. But, after further digging, I found that this is what my west African ancestors brought to my island. Recently visited the Haus of Hoodoo as I literally lived right across the street from on St. Charles Ave, where the Haus of Hoodoo is. The place is a complete sanctuary and you feel the warmth and essence as soon as you walk in. I sought out Manbo Jessyka’s potions, herbs and other items. First time trying and I have to say that yes, they work. You have to be sincere and perform the rituals daily, in the right mindset for them to work.

From what I know of Voodoo it is a love of your ancestors and your connection with everything in the physical and spiritual world . It is not evil or devil worshiping . Not really, they are heavily connected, hoodoo is a form of magick while vodou is a religion od worship which inspired hoodoo, basically the only diference is that hoodoo works with different spirits, its more on the practical side of things and worship is not neccesary

This comment long af but I just had to get that off my chest, like we have become so far gone from our own people and our own past, our heritage, we don't even know what our lineage outside of America is, speaking on just Americans and myself included, and that is some bullshit, but it hurts more when you know why.
