They make water bending look REALLY weak and flimsy as well.
so true... everyone says bending is really done well, but as a true fan of the OG, i know it is no where near the quality of the original bending
It's very slow and underwhelming. It doesn't look menacing or fierce at all
Portraying bending in live-action is really hard to do well. That's the main reason every adaptation has done it so poorly
Considering they've already greenlit the following two seasons, I have a prediction:
The Ember Island players do a better adaptation of ATLA than this actual adaptation!
Actually, they'll probably get cut since it's just filler

Netflix's The Ember Island Players won't have any material from this show to go off (Aang doesn't have that Peter Pan-ish whimsy, Katara isn't dramatic, Zuko isn't obsessed with honor, Sokka barely jokes, etc.) So if they keep it the same, they'll just be basing it off characterizations this series never displayed.
(Kind of just like the Zhao thing)
Remember it's not sexism if men are actually just better at everything! It's fine that Katara's bending can be solved by a random man saying meaningless words!
If that's how they handle Zhao, then I imagine they will introduce Long Feng asking one of the Dai Li what the Fire Nation is.
And it's funny because Azula was actually behind Long Feng
@@robchuk4136 Now, that would be silly if the princess of the Fire Nation wasn't recognized by anyone during the party. Which is probably why that's exactly what's going to happen.
It really does feel like they pulled from Star Wars. Specifically the Disney ones where the villains are all toothless, bumbling morons despite also being an evil all-encompassing empire that somehow conquered everything.
(Ironically, Bryan and Mike have openly stated they were inspired by Star Wars when creating ATLA)

this feels like trying to traverse an invisible maze, where if you touch any walls you get an electric shock from a collar, you are learning where the walls are and just go around that until you get to the end
1. Don't worry about it taking a month man, you content is good anyhow.
2. I wouldn't be surprised if for the ember island players they just started showing scenes from the animated series or something, pretending theirs is better. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire episode was just the play and none of the other stuff.

When the live-action series came out there were so many people praising the show. I was really confused. I thought I was the only person who thought it was bad. But the real reason was because it takes no time at all to say "this is great" and much more time to say "here's a detailed and objective breakdown about why this particular element failed both within it's own presented circumstance and as a part of the wholistic work". A week or so after it dropped, people started bringing out these videos, and suddenly I realised I wasn't crazy, other people had these thoughts as well. Basically, this series (and other videos like it) are intensely-cathartic for me, because I did have so many people, both personal friends and online content creators, get free reign for a few days to tell me I was just wrong with the only justification being, "Just watch the show, how good."
All of this is to say that, this isn't spite for me, at least. It's catharsis and justification. That being said, yes, I have been spitefully sharing many of these videos from many creators to all those people, just showing them the alternative perspective. However, as Fishonastick said at the start of episode 5, everyone who defended it has forgotten about it. For something that some people described as "perfect" and "unassailable", none of them care to throw down about it now. And while some interpret that as them just not caring, some small part of me cannot ignore the idea that it's them just not having a rebuttal, and instead of conceding that they were wrong in the face of detailed, critical analysis, it's their pride closing their eyes and blocking their ears.
When forcing myself to watch this series in full, I remember at one point stopping and saying (out loud because I had to listen to what I said to know I was comfortable with saying it and not feeling like I was crazy), "Zhao is closer to Wormtongue from Lord of the Rings than he is to Zhao from Avatar the last Airbender." After thinking about that statement I because more frustrated because it made sense. This villain is not an intimidating presence or looming threat like Zhao is. But then, no one else is anything strongly highlighting a character trait either, so maybe it's just par-for-the-course.

I am sooo happy I didn't watch this sh!t show. It seems so boring and just simply awful. At least watching your reactions from it makes it funny and an actual learning experience (I know how to NOT write a character now)
I watched the first 3 episodes, took me almost 5 hours because I had to keep pausing to destress and vent. Then I skipped through the 4th episode to just watch the Aang-Bumi moments, and then I stopped because it was just the worst. Then I went back a month or so later and binged the whole thing on the suggestion from a friend that, "It does get better."
We're still friends, but, like, the dynamic has definitely shifted.

Avatar really has turned into Star Wars
The original three seasons (movies) are universally beloved!
There’s a universally despised spin off (M Night’s ShyaBomb and the Holiday Special).
There was a divisive follow up sequel or prequel that gets endless complaints from fans about the unnecessary explanations to the lore (Midichlorians for the force and Rava vs Vaatu) and hentai made of its female characters (I seriously expected there being more Korrasami Ty Lee and Azula have more tension)!
And now we get a terrible pointless reboot made by a company that wants to nostalgia bait its audience using a popular IP.
Given that Grey is a grown woman and professional VA, I think Elizabeth's take should've played on her youth, with more light-heartedness that SEEMED innocent and childish, but was really just her manipulating people left and right.
I think a really great part about Grey's performance as Azula is that it's so easy to forget that she's only 14 years old which ends up working to her benefit as a villain and amplifies her threat level, but when you are reminded of the fact that she is just a child it can work to make her situation seem that much more tragic. I do wish her final arc wasn't quite so rushed, but the idea is still there and appreciated. In that sense, I almost wouldn't mind casting an older actress, maybe one in her early 20's. I know there's a stigma against casting older actors in younger roles and we're all tired of seeing 30 year old guys pretending to be 16 year old Spider-Man, but in this context I think it could work with the right actress.
@@FishStickOnAStick Cast-wise, it depends; there are many actors in their 20s and 30s who look young enough to play late teens, and may be preferable, depending on the show/film's content, though 14 is a tricky one. I'd be fine if Azula was aged up and made the older sister in the remake. Just because she's 16+ doesn't make her any less tragic, and being the oldest puts more pressure on her to be perfect. It'd even fuel her insecurities with everyone mwntioning her younger brother.
