I think you can see almost everything in a day but it's quite relaxing to spend a night there.
The main things to do are:
- The forts walk - There a nice view from the top and you may see a few koalas along the way.
- Watch the rock wallabies at Geoffrey Bay's old ferry terminal
- Sphinx lookout is quite nice.
- Horseshoe bay - relax, lunch, coffee, swim
- Picnic Bay - Lookouts on either end of the bay, walk out on the old jetty, walk past the abandoned markets. Also, you can visit Rocky Bay - a secluded bay
- Florence bay snorkelling
- A nice walk from Horseshoe Bay to Balding to Radical to Florence past Arthur and back to the start of the Forts walk. There's a couple of sidewalks to lookouts along the way.
The best way to get around is by bicycle but it's a bit hot for that currently. The public bus goes where ever you want anyway.
Don't bother going if it's raining unless you happen to like that sort of weather. Personally, I don't mind it. It's nice a cool but does get a bit more humid when it stops raining.

We only have the time for one day unfortunately. Thanks for all this information! So much!! We've just been in Cairns for almost 6 months so used to the super hot and humid weather now :) bicycling around sounds so lovely!

Nice one! I'll be at Maggie Island next Easter for a week. I'll probably have the DJI Mavic with me. It will be tempting to do a video I guess.
