Excellent introduction, better than the one I did. I caught part of your live stream too. I love SC and am glad you are covering it as that will give it much needed exposure. Keep up the good work!

One phrase response....death stacks. More to the point, adding stacking will strongly increase the complexity of the AI programming. Still I would like to see better AI and in these days of cheap memory, ssds and better cpus, I wouldn't think it would be quite as hard as it seems to me. Maybe the best response is that the publisher has to decide how much money to put into AI vs other stuff.

Since you said you haven't tried any of them, I HIGHLY recommend you try Strategic Command World War I (preferably with the expansion). It's the only good WW1 strategy game I've found, and it really gives a realistic feel for trench warfare and you feel the reasons why the countries did what they did.

      Oh, disagree
Commander : Great War is the best. Much nicer map than Strategic Command series and decent AI.
Guns of August 1914-1918 is also, even after 10 years, quite enjoyable.

Why in this great age of brilliant technology, can't we have stacking in strategy games?
    Why?
I have to have an entire separate hex for my air unit?!

Taking Cairo make sense as an Axis victory condition because that controls the Suez canal and European access to South and East Asia.

Now with the new community pack it has a great variant (653H) that is actually much more accurate in units then the main game. Also the use of new NATO counters is much more authentic. Great scale (20 miles) for ease of play (at corp level) while still having detail. I wish the WaW version was also at the same scale! I look for games with at least some historical accuracy with ease of play. I think at this level (20 mile hex/corp units), this game is the best one (starting with Poland) out there when you play the 653H variant. It's not HOI3/Black Ice but you can play it over a weekend not for months. Just build your corps to historical accuracy as you play through 653H and it will be a fun stroll through ww2 history.

at 32:57 to 33 minute mark, you attacked a Polish cavalry unit up north near Gdansk. it looked like it auto-retreated/withdrew from your force. Two questions:
    1) did I see that correctly, did it retreat? or did you as the Victor specify where it moved?
    2) That Polish cavalry unit is now surrounded by German hexes; it cannot trace a line of friendly hexes back to its own turf, it's capitol, a friendly city, nor its headquarters. is there any significance to that situation? Does this game model being cut off?

I've loved all the strategic command games but what really turns me off on this game is the map and units. They are much less detailed then they were before and it's just really hard to get into with such terrible visuals compared to the other games. I bet this is probably the best game they have made in terms of game play, but the visuals need to be updated.

I’m relatively new to computer war games, so I watch a lot of vids like this. I’ve noticed that while these guys know how to play the games and generally provide useful and appreciated info to new players like me, they can be terrible at pronouncing place names. At first, it seemed like “ok, so the guy got it wrong, no big deal,” but I have to say that now I expect to hear at least one embarrassing pronunciation goof in almost every video I watch. I like to think that the people that play games like this have a bit more interest in the history an geography behind them than the average joe...at least enough to avoid distracting boo-faws like terrible mis-pronunciations.

I know this is incredibly pedantic but please don't refer to 'England' when you click on the Union Flag. I'm Welsh and this is a different country. We come under the banner of the Union Flag as an all-encompassing British including Northern Ireland and the reluctant Scotish. I know I know it's bloody ridiculous but you can hear a collective sharp intake of breath when you do that. I am sure we do the same on a regular basis with regards to many cultures and history dictates that we as a nation probably deserve a slap down or two. Great video btw.

  • @GuitarandMusicInstitute

Why do you keep referring to Britain which is called the uk (the clue is in the name...United Kingdom of Scotland, England, Wales as England? If you think this doesn’t matter then think about all the Scottish and Welsh that gave their lives in the war and you utterly ignore their sacrifice! It wasn’t a silly game back then pal. Try harder to discuss this subject with the decorum it deserves and educate yourself a little to how the countries of the uk work. Historical gamer who knows virtually nothing about history, what a total bad joke!

@@0MVR_0 eh I don't know what your comment has to do with the subject matter? Should we call all countries in North America "USA" because that is the biggest country in terms of economic power therefor rubbing out Canada and Mexico? Eh no. The UK is made up of several countries and people need to sadly be educated on this salient fact.

    • @0MVR_0

@@0MVR_0 in any case, your point is not valid. Just because England has now got the biggest population and wealth has nothing to do with the fact that people know so little they think that Scotland is a small town in northern England.
