    Love that manufacturers are keeping these old school bikes alive.... XRLs, TW200s, DRs, etc... 👍

      Me too, I'm VERY glad Honda is still making the XR650L, and Suzuki is still making the DR650. Both are really great bikes, I've owned both over the years and still have a DR650. Also, I have an '88 Honda NX650 which is basically the same as the XR except for body work. I noticed a LOT of parts on this new XR that are identical to the parts on my NX650. And by the way, these big Japanese 650 singles will last a lifetime if cared for properly.

      @@trevorjameson3213 Oh yeah, very familiar with the NX and Hondas. Been around Hondas since late 70s.
      Love to see you keeping that NX alive! 👍👍

    It's great that Honda is keeping this bike alive! The fact that Honda is still producing this bike shows that there is still a viable market for it. No ABS, no EFI, no TFT dash, no other electronic crap, just pure simplicity.

      Dear Tim, tell me pls about differences btw 09 xr and new one. Weight, h.p., tank, miles per gallon or 100 km per xx liters. 100 kilometers per liter sounds better and familiar:)) Tnanx and safe riding!

    • @timhamilton5699
      @timhamilton5699 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-rs3og2jy4f I'm pretty sure that the only difference is the color of the plastics, seat and tank. It's my understanding that the XR650L's design is old enough that it circumvents many current regulations and if Honda made any significant mechanical changes the bike would no longer be allowed to exist in its current form.

    I just bought a new 2022 Yamaha XT 250 ( it suits my needs just perfectly for what I do , basically local light adventure and rural dirt roads and two tracks, and I’m vertically challenged lol 😂 so the low seat height was I big attribute for me )
    And like you, I just love the old school classic bikes , and their time tested ruggedness and dependability , low maintenance and simplicity.
    Looking forward to see some more videos from you . Stay safe and enjoy !

I’ve really been intrigued in that bike, it’s low seat height, low weight makes it a perfect every day commuter and back road machine. Also just like the XR and TW it is very simple and reliable. Keep on exploring 🤙🏼🌲

    I’ve owned one of these for 10 years and have put 18,000 miles on it and I’ve been shopping for a Honda 450 RL or a KTM 500 EXCF just because they’re modern and lightweight but you’re doing such a good job selling this bike It’s making me fall in love all over again! I do enjoy it and ride it to work almost every day, but it is very heavy. I’ve dumped it over a few times and it’s very difficult to get off the ground which scares me if I’m riding alone. I was thinking of selling it and starting over with a new bike, but perhaps I will just add a new bike and keep this old classic. It still runs fantastic.

      I had an '02 XR650R, then bought the Honda "power-up" kit for it, which was just richer jetting, and a larger diameter exhaust tip. Then you remove the carb restrictor and air box restrictor plate. Simple work. The power after that was insane. Huge, giant torque off the low end and a massive mid-range pull. Loved it! I kept it about ten years and rode it in Colorado a lot. I should not have sold it!

      I've had the 650R and now the 650L. I love them both. I think the powerband on the L is more fun. I removed all the smog stuff and it's not much slower than the R. It's definitely slower but not as much as you would think. My r had a power up kit and Baja designs kit. I just couldn't kick it over anymore cause my hip is messed up. The guy who bought it was sure happy because lots of people wanted it.

    I had an XR650L a few years ago. It was fun to ride but it was always difficult to start and to get the most out of it required numerous carb mods. I recall reading that they had been set up for California and were made to run very lean. I would not buy another unless those issues have been rectified.

    • @trevorjameson3213
      @trevorjameson3213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just trim off the tab on the fuel/air screw and re-adjust it, usually 2.5 turns out does the trick. On the Suzuki DR650, you drill out a brass plug and then adjust the screw. That's all it takes and then they run fine. Best thing they could do though, would be to add fuel injection and lose the carbs.

    • @MostroMoto
      @MostroMoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like a lot of people agree with that. I’m hoping with a lectron carb & FMF pipe it will open up!

    • @cmbscx1084
      @cmbscx1084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trevorjameson3213 Spot on with the Carb update. Negative on FI in my opinion. The whole head and intake would likely have to change and then Honda would have to pass smog so it would be lean from day 1. No way Honda wouldn't pass that cost along. Now it is a $8-8500k bike with no other changes. Then add in a fuel tuner or ECU upgrade to make it run correctly and your in way too much $$. $100 in carb changes will be good for 95% of the people out there from sea level to 10kft. One of those bikes that is a great value that you can mod a little or to the moon and still be cheaper and more reliable than current offerings.

      @JeremyDovin ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually sat on a xr recently. It was pretty tall. Taller than a drz. But I was kinda on the fence on which bike I should buy. I am considering a crf300l, drz400, dr650, or this bike. Now Im really unsure which one to get because they all seem like good bikes. The 300l seems underpowered and I would probably be disappointed with how little power it puts out. Everything else on the 300l seems ok. The drz, dr, and xr seem ok but they all run on carbs and a 5 gear transmission. People say these 3 bikes are all bulletproof and are made to last. My type of riding is mainly road but I want a offroad capable machine when I need it. So the bike I get needs to be pleanty offroad capable.

But that being said it will cruise at 65 pretty well (I’m 180 pounds). So I can imagine 70-80 mph shouldn’t be a issue, maybe consider higher gearing just so the engine isn’t working as hard! I couldn't ride today disabled from cranial nerve illness. But oh man back in the day I thoroughly
    enjoyed riding 🌲
    I worked a lot as a kid saved a few bucks and purchased a few motorcycles.
    My first three
    Machines (new) at twelve I'd outgrown a trail 70 actually an
    S L 70 and the T L 125
    I needed a little more punch with a bitty of street legal at first glance (ticketing was really becoming a PISSER) 👦and walking wasn't an option too long a distances🚶...🏃
    Parents helped out with dialing in enough to swing a
    Honda X L 175 ((a chrome rack I used in certain long road situations with an overstuffed jacket (in winter spring - fall) the ugly butt orange colored fatty dork helmet; not as easy too tag me as a 12 yr old on roads or highways.
    I was 15 when street motor puberty hit and it was her spread in the centerfold issue of 79 cycle world for the 80 Sept release of Honda's CM 400 T
    I had enough cash saved parent's were doing 👍
    I was going to loose my jewels to this
    soon to be mine and stripped of it's
    overweight bulges a candy land fat farm (my bedroom garage) where 30 pound catalyst / choke arrester is unbolted dropped n cast aside so's the cool megaphone (light as all else) pipes could be taken to a geniuses muffler and bodywork guy along with the headers of course and welded together as willed it to be. It worked it was such a light end pipe of the headers they required nothing else too em. What a Sound (I was a tiny bit tiny bit concerned it'd be a bit TO NOISE E E E but NOT) wow it was like exactly what I was shooting for 1 lighten it up big, 2 horsepower up⬆⬆ it wasn't pro tested but jeez it'd not surprise me it turned out another 4 to 5 h p
    Good grief (not just a noisy bazooka on the 79 XR 500s after a kid went to IT with a power drill and a couple sized bits) 3 sound GREAT.
    I
    also had to have one of them 79 thumpers wow how fun

Purchased the 2021 brand new as a 2021 leftover at the dealership I was looking at the 2022 at because I couldn't stand the new color scheme of the 2022. Huge, huge, huge mistake by Honda to change up the iconic Red/white coloration of the also ICONIC XR 650L.
    Maybe the color will grow on me, but I doubt it. Too generic looking now.....white/black.
