I don't have any experience with orchids and I'm not sure what I'm about to share applies to these orchids, but I've also heard... don't cut the roots off dormant orchids. If the media becomes very dry mist it sparingly. So do your research. Some orchid experts are starting to say the humidity requirements we all hear about don't pertain so much to the leaves as to the roots. The photos of orchids over large reservoirs of water in those mason jars seem to support the raising humidity for the roots theory. One caution is that mold's favorite environment is room temperature and very humid... So if you get a lot of mold in your environment, keep an eye out for mold on your orchid roots. 💕🌞🌵😷
Hi,Nicole thanks for the video.I have same humidity problem.I have two humidifier running all the time in whole winter long but I hardly reach to 55F.you are lucky to have two beautiful blooms in such small plant.I had a catasetum black flowers one that blooms every year very nicely but cycnoches I found hard to make them bloom.thanks for sharing your ideas.new viewers like and subscribed.
I just bought one from Hawaii. I will pot up and hold the pot just above some water in a outer pot to keep humidity up. When the roots and growth are ready ill begin watering slowly.
Hi Nicole wow beautiful blooms love the colours , we live and learn Nicole we can't always get it right but you now know what went wrong and you can put it right next time around great video 👍😘
I used the water jar trick last winter and it kept mine from shriveling up and dying. I always struggle with winter rest on these guys but the water jar literally saved my plants.
Gah! I just cut my Cycnoches roots today. It’s not a seedling so hopefully it will be okay. I will work on keeping the ambient humidity up. Thanks for the care video.
Oh my, you just saved me, I was totally going to cut the roots off mine! Such a pretty flower, I am looking forward to getting more Cycnoches/Mormodes this year.
The blooms are so pretty, they really make us work hard to see them 😂 I think keeping the roots will work well for you! These orchids HATE low humidity and their roots die easily. How do they thrive in the wild?!? 😂
"because I killed one of them last year" yeah, I bought one from Fred last spring because it could possibly be black. Well, I hadn't watered it at all in two months and it still rotted at the base. I have a part of a cane but I'm not holding a lot of hope for it.
Rotted without water?! These orchids can be nightmares. We'll do our best and if they make the cut, they make the cut, if not, BYE FELICIA! Brown's Choice did bum me out, I did want to see those bronze blooms, but for now, I'm treating them like glass dolls and sitting them on a cup of water. I bet they'll still find a way to drown Lol!

It’s a beautiful orchid, but too finicky for me. Thanks for sharing 🤗👏

That's awesome! I'm going to be using it for all my Catasetums to keep them plump.

If it's not a seedling it'll do better!! Bringing the humidity up will help a lot! Let me know how it goes!!

So you keep those in the pots with media over winter and do the cup of water thing.
Yes, check out my Catasetum video from last week, I show it in action :)
@@NicoleDeanna thank you!
Good info
Hi Nicole, great video, thanks for the tips. Your bloom is very beautiful! Does it have fragrance?
Thanks Mary! Yes, it smells like honey! It's very pleasant!
