    Nice work dude! Getting all those layers of paint of is the worst part! I'm gonna be painting my latest project this morning.

    How did it hold up?

    Just wondering how the topside paint is doing after a year? Have you gotten any chipping or peeling on the bottom from sitting on the bunks or any other issues? I'm currently doing a jonboat project myself and I'm considering all brands? Boat looks good!

      I have not had any issues with the topside paint on both boats I've used it on. I'm working on a third at the moment and will be using the same paint again.

    Thank you looking to paint a old fiberglass tub thank you for showing the proper process.
    Also how's it holding up 3 months later?

      Happy to report no issues. No peeling, cracking, etc. Worked really well!

      @@mvboutdoors thank you 💕 just want to say you put my mind at ease on stressing on how to do something like this you make it look so simple 🤗 would have never thought to use acetone, was planning on just using rubbing alcohol and use some 220 grit sandpaper, now that I know to add those extra steps I feel confident the paint will stick to my bathtub without peeling!!!! Was planning on using a higher grit but my little sander from Walmart only goes up to 220, I'm thinking about using a 300 grit or so by hand would you suggest it after using the 220??

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sarahvaladez6780 220 - 300 would all be pretty similar. If you are priming first i would use a higher grit on the primer to smooth out the final paint but raw material can be a little rougher for the primer to grab on to.

    How is the paint still holding up? I noticed the primer said "above the waterline" so im wondering if this is still applicable for outside of the boat?

    Can you wet sand and add a polish?

  • @tylerramdog8697
    @tylerramdog8697 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just curious why ya didn't use paint remover. Is that not a good idea when I do mine?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the relatively recent restrictions on paint remover ingredients they've become less effective so I opted to sand. It would depend a lot on the paint for how effective it would be but no reason you can't try.

      Also, you had mentioned in one of your videos...you were going to create foam stabilizers on the side of the boat? Did you do that video that I missed? I've watched practically all of them. I like to DIY, but I am a nervous and apprehensive DIYer...you are super calm and I really appreciate that about your vids!!

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tylerramdog8697 I ended up not doing it because the 1436 was more stable then I expected. Thanks for the feedback, don't be nervous! Tackle things one step at a time, there's very little you can't fix if needed.

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very well, so much so that I ended up just brushing most of it rather than rolling and tipping 👍

      @@mvboutdoors Thanks for the fast answer. I don't mind a slight texture from a super smooth roller but if it levels out good then i'm going to use it. Thanks again.

    No problems with the above waterline primer ?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, no issues with that at all. It's covered by the paint of course but it adhered great.

  • @jim5099
    @jim5099 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why use a primer? The paint doesn't call for it.

    How many quarts did it take Buddy?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1.5 qts got the exterior done, three would be enough for an entire 1436 with some left over, depending on how coats you do.
