So I have seen Skelton's work in person in DSM and a store called Opener in Seoul and you hit the nail on the head with the aged clothing thing. It really feels like you're picking up a piece of vintage clothing and I have to give him props for that because its genuinely very difficult to find textiles like this anymore. I would honestly assume they were custom woven for him actually because of it. However, the big draw back is I think you're right that its similar to Paul Harnden, but perhaps thats also because he has his fabrics custom woven to be of that same quality and consistency. It's tough, I'd like more clothing to be made with such love, but I'm also aware that having two brands that are so similar will really hold back growth (though Im not sure either majorly want this, they probably do lose sales or customers to the other)
'Clothing Nerd who doesn't really care about fashion' . You just described me! Feckin' love this guy. His stuff reminds me a lot of one of my favourite Japanese brands: 45rpm.
skelton’s work doesn’t give the same ‘wow’ factor or evoke strong emotions as other designers’ work does. for him, it seems to be more about presenting a concept from his own perspective, and it resonates with us.
He's back!! I loved this type of video, excited to see what other designers you find fascinating. I really love the way Skelton shot his lookbook, each photo feels like its own art piece + the setting really does compliment each look.
I loved the sound of the $1200 jacket. Hilarious. This is what design is supposed to be about, not mass produced t shirts with a logo pretending to be "designer".
I love his choice of models! Actually I think young folks WANT to relate to the wisdom and proficiency, instead of being pretty but green! It works very well with a specific crowd!
Buttonlover4 hahaha Fabriclover4 hahahahahaha jk man thanks for this video, been loving mr skelly for a while now. THE BLOCK PRINTING YOOOOOOOOO One day i'll touch his clothing and maybe own a piece by the time I'm as old as his models
So super hot take here, I went to darklands in Berlin and saw, felt and tires on some of Skelton's clothing. So his wool and linen items are quite nice however his cotton shirts that I tried fit so poorly. Super box and short especially the sleeves and the fabric from what I tried was like old bed sheets and sat weird. All his clothing definitely look and feel hand made and almost...almost to the point of like yeah I could probably sew this shirt or pants myself. But yeah his more tailored stuff is kinda cool and the fabrics are much nicer.
welcome back g. i like jas work but sometimes with brands like this or with something like professor e I find that on body they dont fit me very well for some reason or I find them unflatering. in shoots with others I think they look amazing tho. jas is just forever out of my price range....dont think it will be in ssense sale or on yoox
Im thinking about getting a jacket from him sometime, His work is fantastic although its very tricky to even buy haha, Another artisan you maybe interested in is Nicolas Andreas Taralis
I’ll have to look deeper into his work cause .. if I’m honest… this is giving me that barista who tells you they only serve zucchini milk.. for your mushroom coffee😶😒
im so confused by the target audience of these brands. the lookbooks show these clothes in contexts with the type of people who would never be able to afford these clothes and the people who can would never participate in the kinds of activities shown in the lookbooks. im mostly talking about the first lookbook he showed of the gardener grandpa but still its just major disonance to me and maybe goes into the poorcore fashion movement mister fashionlover4 covered before but like ~vintage~ i dont like it
I don't know about this unconstructed linen look, it is not very flattering on a man. I don't even see the quality that you claim as the entire garment is machine sewn and you can easily send this off to a homeworker to sew if doing low quantities.

I like Skeltons work, however there is a designer who i believe exists in the same realm- but more modern. His name is Olubiyi Thomas

he looks like someone who grew up without a father and built his whole brand and personality around it
