    Nice job Dave. Rescuing those F Units brings back memories. I was rough on my dads American Flyer when I was a kid. Wish I had them back. The old stuff has so many good memories.

    JUST FOUND THIS VIDEO!! I've wanted to service my 2353 for some time. I ordered some oil and lube and am going to try it. It's my original Lionel, pretty sure nothing is broken. Just some LONG needed TLC!!! Thanks

    Thanks for this video, I've got a texas special that looks the same inside.It has all the same issues except the dropped part. I've never taken one of these apart before but am looking forward to my restoration and hopefully will get the same results. Definitely watching this a couple more times.

    Just finished cleaning a 1948 F3 Santa Fe set. Could not figure out why the P unit rear trucks kept locking up. Stator laminations were loose due to rivet not holding and the air gap between stator and armature closed. Tie bands are a great invention. Motor runs like new. Testors red gloss enamel is virtually the same color as the red on the shell. Testors silver is also a great match. Best regards, thanks for the vids.

    That poor engine deserves better treatment. I've never seen a train so abused. SHAMEFUL. You do excellent work. Great video

      Yes, but think of all the fun that the loco provided to get to that state. Yes this is a great model, but in reality it was designed to to be played with for a long, long time. In the state it was in, it looked like it did just that. I think mostly that is why I love to keep them running.

    I acquired a collection last week including a set of ATSF ABA F3s, but they are a real basket case. Wheels are rusted solid, wont move, all three units will have to be repainted. One wonders if its worth it all.

    Did they make any E units back then? I remember touring an E8 locomotive at Baldwin Depot as a kid which came from Rock Island. Too bad they no longer have the two E8s.

    A great video on maintaining your diesel F3 locomotive. Did you replace the broken wheel on the one truck?

      @WarbonnetTrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although I have a press, I had a truck laying around from another locomotive, so it was quicker to just swap the truck

      I mostly use Brasseur out of Saginaw, Michigan
      traindoctor.com/service/service.asp
      They have mostly everything that you need, including parts diagrams, and wiring diagrams to aid your repair. For newer parts I use Lionel Parts they carry most everything made within the last 5 years and a little more. If they have the part in stock they get it to you in a couple of days. Good hunting . . .

    what is the battery for? I have an alco unit with much of the same parts and it has a broken e unit

    • @WarbonnetTrains
      @WarbonnetTrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery is for the horn circuit. It uses a buzzer type horn. Not required to run the train.
