When I use a magnet in my shop to pick up staples, nails or other metals mixed in with the sawdust, I often put some kind of a 'sock' on it before I start. That way, when the metal is picked up by the magnet, I just have to pull the sock off the magnet to remove the material. Usually something like a baggie works, but for what you are doing, I'd use something like a nylon material so it could withstand the rocks and water. Mind you, if you did use a tight woven sock, the smaller materials might hang on a little better in the fibers... Just found your channel today. Cool stuff! Cheers!

Gold would be worth as much as iron if it was magnetic. There would have been no 'gold rush' period in America, perhaps a 'silver rush' would have remained!
Why Those youtubers are big liars...? Because them EGO.... And they are also stupid... GOLD can not be attract by ANY magnet... So you have a nice dog, this is true but you have to clean your soul man... Don't go into that stupid humanity... Poor lost man
When you pull the rope back through water the only part of the magnet close to the creek bed is one edge since the rope mounts to the top center. It would be awesome to bolt one of these magnets to a small boat anchor or similar where it would dig into the bed and move the substrate as you pull the anchor or hook through. Mount a magnet to it facing downwards to get the best chance of running through black sands, or maybe even slightly trailing behind the anchor would be best? I know this is an older video, but didn't see anyone say anything like this and I have had this thought in my mind since watching videos of magnet fishing. Great video! Goodluck prospecting!

You're cool. I live on the river. I only watched 1 of your videos but I love you already...for spending all that time on the river, and for taking junk out of it like I do.
It's a lot more work but picking a trench perpendicular to the stream in that flood/sand/rock bar you're standing on and checking gravels with that magnet might also reveal a gold pay streak in the gravel bar.
you could do with a plastic cover to go over the magnet so when you pop it of everything you collected falls into the pan . also I would only use it to show you where the heavys are I still think you need to dig though for best results so do really help in anyway to find gold
Helpful Hint.---The black sand and GOLD are heavy, You are dragging the magnet across the top of the sand. IF there is any HEAVY stuff in the stream, they will be under the top layers of flow sand. Use your foot OR a shovel to move the top flow sand. The water will float that light stuff away and leave the Heavy matieral. Then your Magnet can stick to it.

That's awesome. Try to find something to put around the magnet like a thick piece of plastic, or something of that nature so when you pull the magnet out it would be easier to release the black sand with the gold!
ive had some success over here in the UK doing this to, i rigged up a small stainless steel mesh cup under the magnet leaving about an inch gap around the edge of the magnet, this is to collect the non magnetic stuff that is initially pulled up then dropped by the magnet, ive found a few little nuggets this way of around 5 to 6 mm & plenty of gold sand, the total from my 6 trips out with the big magnet is 2.7 grams which by UK standards is quit a bit.
I just thought of another way to fish for Black Sand and GOLD. Put the magnet onto the bottom of the plastic Gold Pan. Set the pan in the stream just enough to wash away the flow sand. The Heavy stuff should settle into the bottom of the pan.
You might not be able to trap the gold in the black sand unless it's wet. Klesh guitars TH-camr has alot of information about processing gold concentrates and removing black sands from the cons. He rarely recovers gold with magnet in dry sands.

Hi Kyle. Your video was a blast to watch, thank you. You confirmed my theory with using a magnet to find gold. I haven't tried it yet. I live in Tucson AZ, so you can imagine how I have to plan a different approach. Note of thought, I am near several mines south of Tucson. I've been doing some scouting at some areas of interest. So I'm excited and more anxious to see what I come up with. I found your video a delightful treat with smiles and laughter from your comments and reactions, I loved it! I find you very cute and love how you relate to your companion, he's adorable. If had the opportunity to join you on your adventures, my days will be fulfilled. I realize this video was posted 2 years ago and I'm sure you're adventures thereafter are just as exciting and fun. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more. Take care and be safe on your Golden Adventures! Diane C.
@@kathlenesims767 ez how? I was betting on these TH-camrs love to stage things for for click bait and views so whose to say he didn't place the so called gold before he started filming 🤔
One way of telling if your jewelry is actually gold is by using a magnet. If your gold is magnetic, then there is iron or nickel inside of it. Pure gold is not attracted to magnetic fields, but if an enormous magnetic field is applied to gold, the gold will slightly move and then slightly repel it.
Look at the stuff under a microscope or good magnifying glass. If it is round and smooth it has a chance of being a meteorite. It's harder to tell if the river has rounded a natural piece over time. You have a good chance to find them in your yard with a magnet like that.
I had been wondering how I could get to a spot I "found" on the river way upstream from this spot. I think I can drive right to it, cause I'm old and lazy. Any who, Kyle you have given me a great idea for a little attachment that would simplify and increase the yield of this method if it works. If you want to build a prototype, test it, patent it, sell it, what ever. I'd be willing to get you a sketch to see what you make of it. Of course if you become wildly wealthy with it and fell like throwing me a bone I wouldn't slap it away, especially if there was some smokey beefy goodness surrounding it, but it's just an idea and those are a dime a dozen.
Rad video thanks man. I find myself in a habit of watching everything in the background of real people videos, its the landscapes, geology, the flippin trees, muddy or clear rivers, bird calls, weather. Im waiting for winter as to avoid drowning by suprise but im gonna go see what i can see in the vintage storm water system around my town, im right in my area. Many years of erosion move through those tunnels.
@Kyle Thiemann If there is definitely gold in that creek, you should buy one of those waterproof gold detecting metal detectors. Maybe you can find some nuggets deep in the gravel.
great video, great ranch dog, Utley. I have always wanted to prospect, but out here in AZ water is scarce so I've been thinking hitting the dry wash holes with a metal detector. Have you tried using i detector, not in the water , but on dry land . You make a real interesting video , actually real. Thx, keep the faith.

Also you baby boy makes your videos great to watch as if they weren’t already!
goldminerkylet@gmail and trust the weight of the gold it will fall to the bottom eventually after enough of the stratification process if there is a lot of black sand there is most likely a lot of flour gold get some dish soap or jet dry so you can break the water tension because very tiny gold will tend to float or sit on top of the oils from your new pan if you dont sand it down and the oils on your hands can do it it to, good luck and hope you find some gold!

Thanks for sharing, very nice, how many grams was the gold you collected in the video?
Try covering the magnet with cling wrap, it makes clean up easier
Will do I have a lot of ideas lol
Great Video ! lots of magnetite and other valuable natural treasures. :) , at 29.05 the little tyke is like "(i know gold is kewl and all, but im ready to go home now)" and play. Happy Gold Mining
It’s so awesome great job wish I was there looking for gold with you even looking for awesome rocks you rock dude

Never seen anyone pull off the magnet prospecting. That's really good for your area. Good job!
thanks peter i appreciate it !
It's ez
@@kathlenesims767 ez how? I was betting on these TH-camrs love to stage things for for click bait and views so whose to say he didn't place the so called gold before he started filming 🤔
One way of telling if your jewelry is actually gold is by using a magnet. If your gold is magnetic, then there is iron or nickel inside of it. Pure gold is not attracted to magnetic fields, but if an enormous magnetic field is applied to gold, the gold will slightly move and then slightly repel it.
Congrats that worked way better than I thought.
Hey thanks and that’s what I said ! Lol
Look at the stuff under a microscope or good magnifying glass. If it is round and smooth it has a chance of being a meteorite. It's harder to tell if the river has rounded a natural piece over time. You have a good chance to find them in your yard with a magnet like that.
Your good daddy! He'll learn with ya patience , your doin it right
Yes, thank you
it is a special kind of happy to see somebody else find gold.
You guy are tripping!!
What about all those large yellow flakes among the magnetic rocks.
Flake hokd used to plate
@Kyle Thiemann If there is definitely gold in that creek, you should buy one of those waterproof gold detecting metal detectors. Maybe you can find some nuggets deep in the gravel.
Ought to. Have some treats fer him when he comes when you call
i usually do, im always forgetting something at home lol
great video, great ranch dog, Utley. I have always wanted to prospect, but out here in AZ water is scarce so I've been thinking hitting the dry wash holes with a metal detector. Have you tried using i detector, not in the water , but on dry land . You make a real interesting video , actually real.
Thx, keep the faith.
At 3:04, "Good Boy!", you sound like Scooby-Doo lol.
Imagine how much gold is in the spot you were able to trap some of it in the black sand using a new magnet I would maybe use that as a method for finding pockets to dig
Thankyou for being truthful, thats why I watch you oh and I Love that cutie pie 🐕 of yours, too
Great Idea, I'm going to try that myself. Thanks for sharing.
put the magnet it in a stocking
THIS IS CHERIE.. I HAVE 2 EARTH MAGS... I ALSO HAVE SLUICE BOXES AND LIKE GOLD HUNTING. I ALWAYS FEEL LIKE THE BOXES DONT CATCH THE GOLD THAT IS LIKE WHAT U HAVE.. I HAVE RE PANNED GOLD OUT FROM THE TAILINGS OF THE GROUND UNDER MY SLUICE I DONT HAVE IT RUNNING TO FAST OR SLOW ETC SO FORTH. SO GREAT JOB GETTING IT THAT WAY. I WILL TRY THAT SOMETIME .
I love caching coins in the river with hardrive magnets
interesting! Can someone please shed some light on the facts /strengths or can tell me if there any stronger than microwave magnets? N
I got 20+ old drives and you just gave me an idea, thanks :)
@@andrewsmail8307 I also use them for black sand but trie to stack them together if you could contain them some how with a nice lifting lug you might have quit a strong magnet
The computers also have gold in them
@@Makobadger they also have very strong magnets
You can use a magnet for platinum fishing in the tullameen river. B.c. Canada
I smash it into the mud and rub it around.. Get completely covered.
get a double sided magnet bro. Those suck unless you are bobbing up and down off a dock.
yeah i am going to try and pry the magnet out of that casing i didn't like the whole dragging aspect i need like a magnet the size of a softball that is a sphere that it 360 degrees magnetized
Absolutely I wish they made those it would make everything easier even when I go magnet fishing. But all the magnets just shoot down in one direction...DOWN. I was thinking the other day if they could make one where the sides were as strong it would be amazing.
I wish I could send you pictures because I have a green round smooth river rock that is magnetic too and I recently got some root wads off the bank of the cowlitz river and out of one root was as big as my hand in a fist I got so muck black sand I’m not probably very good at doing the panning thing because it was literally like the second pan of anything I tried to pan so you know some got away from me.
Do you think there is gild in the eleven point river its all spring fed
Obviously, this process needs more research. Like doing it on the inside of turns in the creek where the water slows down.
Cracks and crevices
Those peace's of black rock that you were picking up. Could be meteor rock?
