Thank you for giving us the measurements before you cut each piece. I've watched several "DIY lantern" videos and everyone is so busy chatting, they don't bother to give the measurements for the wood they're cutting or what size they're cutting to. Makes it pretty difficult to "DIY" if you don't know what the size is.

The top piece is called a finial. You can purchase finished ones on line or Lowes & Home Depot.
What size naels did you use?

You never mentioned putting boards on top. You say put boards on bottom then you show them on top
