    I watch this video many times to remind me of the steps and as I practice I incorporate all the steps and my kick serve slowly improves also I enjoy the process even though I probably bore my tennis friends at times but they are/ will be impressed with my consistent powerful topspin serve. Thanks for your clear insightful professional instruction👌

    Osaka's coach places a garbage can one foot inside the corner of the Ad service box.
    This drill forces you to get the correct trajectory and high clearance over the net. It will be impossible to get it in the trash can with a low net clearance. Your kick serve should never hit the net or even come close to the net. If you are going to miss, you need to miss long... I find that I never miss into the net. All my misses are about a foot or less long.

I notice on your finish the balance of the weight makes you go left. like all the weight is on you left foot and you are leaning on the left side of the court. I understand whe should finish weight on the left foot but why you finish makes almost fall to the left?

  • @henrylove514
    @henrylove514 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Nate, love the straight-forward instructions! To serve a kick serve on the ad side, it seems the swing path is kind of parallel to the baseline. To serve on the deuce, do we need to adjust the swing path? If so, what should the swing path be? Thanks.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank ya sir! The swing path will largely stay the same, just make sure your jumping in the direction of the serve and it will help with the direction of it. Hope this helps!

  • @jsrss
    @jsrss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Been working on the kick serve for years. Thanks for the video. Should we interpret “swing path along the baseline as an approximation”? It would seem when watching all kick serve videos the path is certainly less direct than a flat and slice serve but not strictly parallel to the baseline. Looks more like a 45 degree angle towards the net in order to impart more forward motion to ensure adequate pace in addition to the kick spin. For sure the upper body needs to delay rotation. That’s an important point you make.
    Does one use full pronation (ie 180 degrees) on the kick serve or does one carve kind of over the top of the ball?
    I succeed sometimes getting the ball to bounce high and jump back in the opposite direction and sometimes not. Never quite sure what I have done that made the difference. Except that when I can hit the ball with a higher arc over the net that surely helps to get the bounce higher. Will keep working at it. 😀

    • @K4R3N
      @K4R3N 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Jack I try to curve over the ball for that rotation. But you do need some a little bit of forward lean or swing into the court so actually makes it over the net.

    • @Better_Call_Raul
      @Better_Call_Raul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@K4R3N Yes, you can lean into the court, while taking care to remain sideways. Staying sideways and not opening up is critical Almost like you are falling into the court from a sideways position. But probably best to practice the basic motion first before adding the lean. Although I think I am finding that I don't get quite the high bounce without the lean.

  • @svarodzic

  • @9r393
    @9r393 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks this really helps me. One question, how would you add a bit more pace to the kick serve? I'd like a little more pace do make it a bit faster and have more depth. Mine kinda sit and are easy to take on the rise.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. There are two key movements to focus on 1. Rotational force ie; coiling 2. Loading (Knee bend, weight transfer) I think loading and getting weight up and into the court is prob the area you want to focus on the most. Hope this helps!

    • @Playyourcourt

      Make sure you're getting enough of the ball. Sometimes we hit too thin and the result is the ball doesnt get the propulsion required to clear the net. Additionally, Make sure you're getting your body weight into the court. Hope this helps!

    I haven't been able to resolve my double fault problem on my kick serves, but applied what you've taught in this video - resulting in much more consistency and confidence. I would add that the follow through, at least for me, is also very important. I follow through with the racquet ending up at my left hip, similar to the slice serve, which seems to add extra topspin to ensure that the ball dips in the box. Now I feel as if I can swing as fast as I want and still get the ball in the service box. Thank you so much!

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hunter, glad to hear the video helped with the consistency of your kick-serve. Focusing on the finish and even holding it is a great way to build a consistent swing path, helping the serve to be more relaible. Keep up the great work 💪

    I decided six years ago- when Alcaraz was 13- that if people can learn juggling tricks then- with practice- I should be able to learn the kick serve. I began practicing with 150 serves every morning. Takes about 20 minutes but adds up to quite a lot over a six year period. How long will this take?? My serve is not recognisably different and I’m losing motivation; Alcaraz is winning Grand Slams! I’m not hoping to win the French Open, I just want a serve🙏

    Is it okay to toss the the ball and have it falling a bit inside the court? A lot of times when I try to do a kick it's high and bounces high, but it lands short that my opponents are inside the courts and are attacking it with ease. I feel like there's not enough forward momentum on my kick so would tossing the ball more inside the court help?

    • @Playyourcourt

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  ปีที่แล้ว

      The deuce court can cetainly be tougher. Aim more towards the T on the add court and allow your body weight to shift more towards the deuce court. This will allow you to find the T serve on the deuce court while maintaining the kick. Hope this helps

      A great slice would be better for most levels--high percentage and impossible to attack. Kick is great to have but I find it's super overrated at rec levels. People mostly use it to stop double faulting but they would be able to do that with a good slice.
