Grill_ Gamer_24 Not necessarily. A lot of people can’t afford dresses like that and if the parent has to decide between putting food on the table and a dress, most parents would rather feed their children then glam them up for a night. Besides, the outfit isn’t what makes the night, the experience you have is.
Some women and families can't afford hundreds or thousands of dollars for a prom dress and all of the accessories! So putting down alternative options and calling them "cheap and tacky" is a bit harsh. Sure it won't look like a well crafted designer dress, and it's awful the pictures can be misleading (and I can see how that'd be disappointing or upsetting), but they're still getting an option that's affordable for their budget.
Preach sister, I couldn't even afford to buy a prom dress for my 12th grade prom. I almost didnt go, but thank God I had a teacher that actually cared. She went and got all these prom dresses from people who wanted to donate them and brought them to the school, so the girls that couldn't afford to buy a dress, could pick one out and wear it to prom. If the dress didn't fit, she had her mom fix it for you. She even got my hair and make up did. If it wasn't for that lady I wouldn't have even thought about going to prom. I thank her so much for that, I wish some schools would do something like that, it would be so worth it.
Spent exactly $20 on my prom look. I got 2 dresses and a pair of heels at a second hand store. Didn't spend anything on jewelry since I just wore some of my old stuff. Mom helped me with my make up and hair. I had a blast and got plenty of comments on how nice I looked. You don't need to spend insane amounts of money in order to look good and have a great time.
Anything over $99 for a prom dress is ridiculous. People just don't know how to shop. I got my wedding dress for only $109 at a store and it was all hand made in high Quality.
It probably wasn't if it was 109 dollars...and it's unbelievable when you look at it economically. How much were they paid an hour if most dresses take months to make and alter for a perfect fit. Not forgetting that there is also cost for materials.
I could never do that for a wedding dress Ive planned out my gown it's an Organza A-Line with lace and I'm going to have a Tiffanys Diamond tiara with a Tiffanys pearl necklace and a Tiffanys cobble stone band ring.
I got my prom dress at Goodwill for $5.00. A beautiful long velvet gown. Wore it for years after that. My wedding dress was like $60, got it at a nice local seamstress' shop.
I buy my suits from goodwill and I can say that it's a steal too! Goodwill has so much good vintage stuff (and in natural materials like wool and velvet!) compared to stores like Macy's and H&M
monster9392 There's a place where you can buy a dress for less money. The best part is that you can see what you're really buying. It's called a thrift store.
thatasiangirl 0_0 True, but at least you know what you're really getting. I'd rather look for a dress at a secondhand shop than risk spending money on something I didn't want.
Last year was my Freshman year of High School. I went to Macy's with friends to go Homecoming Dress shopping. Everyone was having a tough time deciding on a dress, but then I found a beautiful BodyCon style dress that's seafoam green with sparkles, plus it was insanely comfortable! I love it so much and it was only $30.00! My dad was happy when I came back and I handed $70.00 to him. My mom told him to me to give me $100.00 as it was a special occasion, but I'm glad I didn't use even half of it as it's the best dress I could of ever found there! A few weeks after Homecoming, I found a really pretty Ocean Blue Prom dress that's the higher-in-the-front style dress at a high end Goodwill for $7.00. I will wear it to prom and be fabulous! It's crazy that I can actually go to Prom next year! Together thrifty girls stand!
Dio Brando Nope in the picture it has kinda like a flowy skirt but when they got it it I didn’t have that flow in the skirt and it was cheap quality and dirty.
We don't even have prom here in my country so am I the only one thinking how INSANE it is for a teen to have a dress for 450 dollars for just one night???? sorrry but I'd rather wear something cheaper, doesn't have to be perfect.
usedtobemyself I mean it's not just one night, you could use it for formal parties or save it for your wedding, or pass it down to a sister or something. Plus the night is suppose to be special and you want to look your best.
It is one night in high school, why would one pay over 100 bucks for a dress for one night in HIGH SCHOOL? Its no like your getting married to the love of your life, prom is a high school dance.
@@cherrybunnyz2516 How many people actually rewear the same dress to both proms though? So that's two dresses that you're going to wear for one night each. It is a waste no matter how you slice it.
+Lexa mundos (Lexamundos) Plus, the girl clearly didn't fit in the dress. Before calling it a horrible dress they should've gotten her the right size :/
Why aren’t they giving actual good advice? Buy your prom dress the year before on clearance. I got mine, a super nice brand name dress, for $50. For junior prom, I spent a total of $10 at Goodwill. No regrets. Both dresses were gorgeous. If you don’t have the finances, you’re not forced to wear a bad gown like they’re suggesting. Splurging $700 on one night you’ll barely remember is idiotic.
@@haveringdokkan9344 For most of us. We start getting jobs at that age. We can barley make that much for an expensive prom dress. You have other things to pay like maybe some clothes, shoes, school supplies, saving for college, etc. Maybe a couple hundred but who would waste that much on a dress? Only an idiot would.
My dress may not be of the top quality or really what I ordered, but you know what?? I had fun and guess what? I still have money for college. I am not paying hundreds of dollars for a dress that I will only wear for a day for a night that is no different than homecoming with more food. Sometimes people can only afford the low end stuff. (Edit: Yes I do know this video is talking strictly about false advertisement, but my comment still stands.)
Jaimee Rudick Here at Portugal there is a store that has dresses that could be for prom between 70 to 100 euros. And the material is just great. Thats were Im going to buy mine :)
wow, well sorry that not everyone can afford a fucking designer dress, but do you really have to diss on the "crappy" ones like they're not even bad they're just made to fit their price
+Sophia Diblasio but the point is, they're bashing on the "crappy" ones being cheap and all and even crying about it, imagine not having the money to buy a designer dress, then having this video crapping on your dress, obviously people can buy nice dresses, and that's on them. But no one should bash on dresses that are more affordable.
emily lee thank you somebody understand not everyone has hundreds of dollars laying around for one dress....FYI who would want to Wear a dress of glass
Hey what you gotta do is get a really crappy dress and pretend you thought it was gonna be prettier then video tape yourself crying over this ugly dress, send the video to Sherri hill then they will send you a bunch of dresses! And boom! Free dress
+ultraheda ; I think the bigger issue with the cheaper online one is that they steal the photos from legit companies (which is illegal), and the fact that you aren't seeing what you're getting. If you see a picture of a beautiful, green dress and you're sent a frumpy, ill-fitting yellow dress, you'd probably get pissed. Yes, they're made to fit the price but it's like blindly buying something and *hoping* you get what you order.
I went and took my butt down to Macy’s and got mine for a great deal! Yes it wasn’t what I had originally wanted, but when you live in a small town you make deal and tbh I think I looked pretty good compared to some who spent hundreds to go out of town to get theirs at a boutique. Price can’t overshadow gratitude and a genuine smile:)
+LaurenLoves Life Your actually telling me that you would wear a 500$ dress underneath a 50$ robe that the entire graduating class (minus 2) is wearing? Really?!
+LaurenLoves Life I've heard some private schools actually have the students wear gowns and suits for graduation...but then if you go to a private school, your family probably could afford you a ridiculously price dress... Though I doubt they would want to wear the SAME dress. And what about the junior prom goings? I just don't see the justification of buying a 500$ prom dress unless your family is very well off, but I came from a middle class family and this life style is probably waaaaay over my head. lol
The same goes for schoolies. I wouldn't want to go to that whatsoever. But that's probably a lot of people die during schoolies due to car accidents, alcohol poisoning, drug overdoses etc. Schoolies is an Australian term for a bunch of parties held by and attended by just about every recent high school graduate. Except the seventeen year olds. They legally can't drink alcohol.
It's fine if you want to spend a lot of money on a dress, but it should also be fine to spend money on cheaper knock-offs. Some dont have hundreds off dollars to buy a dress for just one night.
Eline S lol my friend had to win a boxing fight to get a hundred bucks to buy a decent suit for his prom date and yes she told him she will go with him
Eline S true. but then you're better off buying a dress from forever 21 for 15$. those examples of knock off dresses were not cheap, they were 100$ each and the quality looked much worse than forever 21 so it isn't only a knock off, it's an expensive knockoff.
I love how theyre quick to give the rich girl WHO CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD all those expensive dresses for free just bc she bought one slightly worse in quality knock off dress. What about all the struggling for money teens who HAVE to buy the cheaper ones?
@@haveringdokkan9344 noo nothing like that. I'm guessing she's rich or at least her family is, because shes part of a dance group that probably isn't cheap.
I think this video is pretty ignorant not everyone has $500 to spend on a dress. They should've given options for less expensive dresses maybe from different stores.
That "Cheap junk"KINDA looks good to me Edit: please don't like my comment anymore, I'd like to keep it at 6.9k thank you :) Edit 2: So I see you guys have chosen to rebel against my wishes
•Tiara• Yeah I know,I would still accept it,but it's pretty disappointing that they spent their money on something they didn't want. They were expecting a much more quality Dress.
That blue and white lace dress was cute! Honestly, these people are getting paid too much to say this stuff. A dress is not worth $400. Just go to Walmart and that dress will be perfect for a one night dance.
Prom is usually something that you only get to do once in your entire lifetime... Do you really want to be wearing a dress from Walmart? I mean, do what you want of course, but if it was me I'd want a dress that I really loved and felt special in. A 20 dollar dress that was cheaply made and stock designed? No thanks.
As someone who went to prom in an $80 dress, I hated Prom. My favorite part was going out to eat and hanging with my friends right before. The actual dancing at Prom was for couples grinding against each other, it was awkward, it was loud. It was super expensive and a complete waste of $100+ spent on it. It was on a riverboat, too, to give some context. Still awful. Unless you have a date that you like dirty dancing with (that's your choice and I don't judge you), there's no reason to want to go. My sister, instead of going to prom, bought dresses from Goodwill, went out to eat with her friends, played tennis IN those dresses, and then went exploring around the town doing other fun activities. Make "Prom Night" one you actually will care about and remember happily.
+Lauren McAtee in the end it's a bunch of kids at a dance. An expensive dress isn't necessary, in the end it's just important to have fun with your friends
Aislinn Vasquez I have a friend who got married in a cheap dress, and she's happy. I'll do the same when I get married. A dress is as important as you make it.
I went to the mall with a friend to look for our dresses, we hadn't been out looking yet. First store we walked into (I think JC Penney) we walked past the prom dresses and said we'll check em later... But my eye was caught by this red dress that stuck out because it wasn't put back correctly. I looked all over for where it might have come from and couldn't find any like it. I said heck it, and tried it on AND IT FIT!! I'm not really into shopping, so I was relieved to find a dress I liked that fit me, so quickly. It was on sale for $200 something (or maybe cheaper, I can't remember). I hid it on some rack and after the mall went to my dad and said "I found the dress and it's on sale!" My parents and I went that night and bought it. Even though it was a bit out of budget, my dad was happy to get it for me. After an alteration to make it shorter and used that fabric to make braided straps, I had a beautiful, simple (with a dash of bling) prom dress that I still own and love. I've had it for 5 years and haven't worn it since... I wish there were more reasons to wear a dress like that. :/
Me too. I can't afford $500 for a dress. However, the main point of the video is that the websites steal photos from established brands and sell products that don't look like on the pictures. They kind of look like the picture product but at the same time considerably different.
My high school had a thing called “Cinderella’s closet” where people donated old formal gowns that were available to borrow. This is so students who don’t have well enough income can still get a nice dress for formal occasion (like the annual special ed prom or sport galas at the end of each season). I wasn’t intending to go to prom (my dad had cancer so I couldn’t afford it) but after a classmate of mine told our principal, he paid for my ticket. My biology teacher and elementary art teacher took me to Cinderella’s closet to pick out a gown, it was black and made of a soft and lightweight fabric. My aunt did my hair, my mom did my makeup, and all my friends put together money and rented a large van (more comfortable and cheaper than a limo). The night was amazing and I was even voted prom queen! You don’t need to spend a fortune for the night to be fantastic! I still have my dress since they let me keep it! It was awesome!
Ooh that is so nice! Half my dresses used to be from someone else (I really like them being so different in style). It would be nice to give my young looking dresses to a teen that can't afford them.
Wow you Americans go crazy with Prom. In France we just pick a nice dress out of our closet and end of story. It's just one night of party with your high school who cares lol
I don't know why, but personally the dress at 1:45 I thought the cheap one looked kind of nicer than the other one. Despite the top being in poor quality.
What if people couldn't afford any better? of course people would get sucked in. I shop for everything online and never once received a rip off. If you're careful about where you buy it it'll be fine.
a department store during a sale day is a good alternative. You could get a well made dress for 75% off if you know how to work the system. (I've gotten 200 dollar coats for 75 that way)
I got a fake sherri hill dress for my dance. I could definitely afford the real one but it's not worth it for a night. A lot of people said I had the best dress at my dance. It looked classy and beautiful but yes, we did get some of the beading resewn on but that wasn't an issue.
That's what I thought too. Not everyone has money to throw on a dress you'll wear on one night, the "cheap junk" is the only affordable option for a good portion of Americans
Elizabeth Ann I found my dream prom dress at a thrift shop. It was too tight through the shoulders so I used black lace fabric and did details down the back with it
Because some women can wear a bin bag and look great, and others cant, so they kid themselves into thinking its about the label. Take it from men, its all about what you were born with. Chin up :)
Yeah some boutiques just do it for an extreme profit. But as a seamstress, I have to say, making all those dresses from scratch with good quality fabric is not easy and definitely deserves a good amount of money. Thousands of dollars is way too much, but anything between 0-25 dollars would mean that whoever involved it in the making of the garment was extremely underpaid. Just because it’s for cheap doesn’t mean it’s worth it 🤷🏾♀️
Right? My Max budget was $250 for my senior prom. I was so happy I found a girl on Etsy who custom made it for $225 which is honestly cheap for a custom made dress so I was shocked and very happy. If it had been higher than $250 though I wouldn't have been able to afford it.
I just wore a basic baby pink skater style dress from forever21 it was like 15$. I don't regret it, sure my dress was the most basic. But at least it was super comfortable and I wasn't scared of ruining it. Oh yeah and I can wear it more then once!
Sally Lally For my winter dance I wore a blue dress and heels from forever21 for about 40$. For my spring fling I wore a sheri dress and it was purple.
Nice! I plan on doing that for prom too. I want to get fancy but I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a dress. Also F21 has a lot of cool accesories!
I go to thrift stores. my dress cost me 50 bucks while the girl who bought it first probably paid $250. I'm real skinny with not a lot of bust, So if it's a little big in the top, my mom just takes it up a little and no one knows.
The video was about what to avoid when looking for a prom dress. I don't think these girls are rich if they are buying dresses that are on sale. I think you should just look at reviews of the website and it's quality before decided to buy their products. also there is nothing wrong with wanting to look good and wear something that we'll suites you and doesn't look tacky.
Tomokitten c: Very true. :) I was just pointing out that these are first world problems and the title contains the words "Break Teen Hearts"... It doesn't sound like a tragedy to me! But maybe I don't care enough.
Sandra Claws personally I would just be pissed and they did make it seem like some sort of tragedy when really the only tragedy part is not having a dress for prom or homecoming or something and no one really gives one about what you wear half the time so they could just go to a place like ross and buy a formal dress for $30 or less. That's what I did when I needed a plan black dress for concert band and I found it for $17 and the higher class bands that had to order them paid like $30-40
I really like your video! You can go to google search "pickedresses" to get hottest styles dresses for your special day. I have got one from that site, Best Deals.
some of them do look nice from afar but the quality might be something to consider. A cheap dress is fine as long as it doesn't feel itchy or uncomfortable and doesn't fall apart when used :)
Soon you will learn. Prom is the end of the year party for seniors saying goodbye to highschool. It's important to party At the last year of highschool
My dress only cost 80 bucks and it was handmade by a local woman in our city who was trying to start her own clothing business. The dress was extremely poofy, well made and I still have it (I wear it occasionally despite its been 4 years since high school and my little sister likes to play princess with me) we found her company on offerup. You just gotta look in the right places, even the obscure places.
The dresses that they showed didn't seem that bad. Obviously, they weren't as well made as the more expensive gowns, but I'd much rather buy the cheaper version if the event is something as silly as a school dance and you're only going to wear the dress once Also that guy looks like he tries on all his dresses in the dark.
Honestly the dress that the girl got for her sweet 16 wasn’t even that bad the only differences yeah it was a little dirty and it wasn’t as Poofy you can get it cleaned I would’ve worn it I didn’t get a nice pretty dress for my sweet 16 I didn’t even really have a big sweet 16 party it was mostly like every other birthday party I had I still had fun
Syd The Sloth I agree. Like why was she on the verge of tears, and why was the girl flat out crying? I’m also kinda confused as to why the instructor is buying her student a dress. Seems weird to me.
Syd The Sloth same. i had a bonfire with my friends for my sweet 16, my mom made homemade macncheese and smores cups, it was better personally to me than a fancy party.
DamaOscuraDeTodos I think they're a market scam. But if you want one, go ahead and buy it. If I get married, I'll just wear a nice dress for less than 300$
People are saying "Who would spend 450 for a dress?" and to that I say it's none of your business. If these girls have the money and want to treat themselves for one night, then let them. If you don't want to spend that money, good for you.
except majority of the time its not the girls money its the parents who are begged into spending hundreds of dollars to try amd impress a bunch of people she doesn't talk to and probably never will talk to outside of high school
Rishro29 And if the parents go through with that, that is their deal. A good parent doesn't let their child bully them into buying them stuff. If they wish to go through with all of that, it is still their business, not yours.
At least the wedding dress you'll wear all day haha. And your wedding is a hella lot more important than high school prom-- at least if you do decide to spend more than $90 on it, you can justify it as something you really will want to keep in your closet getting dusty your whole life.
I bought mine from forever 21 for about $30 and everyone thought I got it from a designer. Money doesn’t make you look better, its how you present yourself!

My mom spent less than $500 on her wedding dress and she found that to be too much so I come from a family who doesn’t agree with spending too much money on one damn day
Honestly what mattered most to me is I could move and felt comfortable and I had wonderful prom dates both times...first time better than the second because we both ended up crying during my second prom for different reasons (we weren’t a couple btw, just close friends who were having other life problems hit us like a brick to the face on prom night and we both left early to drink milkshakes and avoid obnoxious people who were at our prom)

Though I doubt they would want to wear the SAME dress.

I have a friend who got married in a cheap dress, and she's happy.

What website?
Yeah some boutiques just do it for an extreme profit. But as a seamstress, I have to say, making all those dresses from scratch with good quality fabric is not easy and definitely deserves a good amount of money. Thousands of dollars is way too much, but anything between 0-25 dollars would mean that whoever involved it in the making of the garment was extremely underpaid. Just because it’s for cheap doesn’t mean it’s worth it 🤷🏾♀️

That's what I did when I needed a plan black dress for concert band and I found it for $17 and the higher class bands that had to order them paid like $30-40
I would just go to the thrift store
I really like your video! You can go to google search "pickedresses" to get hottest styles dresses for your special day. I have got one from that site, Best Deals.
I went to goodwill yesterday and they had like 6 wedding dresses
Kory Mann same

"I can't imagine wearing it"
I can.
My mom made my prom dress 😊
Swiftwing9 Aww I’m sure it looked pretty
That’s great! I’m sure it looked amazing!
I’m just waiting for that one comment saying, “I’m sure it looked ugly!”
I'm sure it looked ugly
Mine did to that's awesome :)
Is it just me or do I like the cheap ones and I would wear it?
U have no taste then
some of them do look nice from afar but the quality might be something to consider. A cheap dress is fine as long as it doesn't feel itchy or uncomfortable and doesn't fall apart when used :)
But if they have one inch of dirt on it
Then no
0:58 i wouldn’t say stunning but ok...
Lol right? I was like "umm no siz."
Ikr the dress is just uhhh I just don’t like it much
It’s pretty but not as cool or comfy as they said
Yea it’s alright but I wouldn’t wear it my self
I’m the 400 like 😃👍🥳
I truly don't understand why girls spend this much for 1 prom day .-.
ikr! Im probably never going to go to prom
Fen
I would buy one for half the price of 100
Soon you will learn.
Prom is the end of the year party for seniors saying goodbye to highschool.
It's important to party
At the last year of highschool
fashun
SoBakii yh but its an enormous waste of money
Reading the comments was wayyy more entertaining than the video 😂

+IWillWaitForYou YES IT IS
Why some of them like crying over a dress for prom lol 🤦 I'd rather be at my house sleeping if this ever happened to me

I agree.
omg that black dress is actually alright.
That dress was not bad
Yasmina El the guy said, "i can't imagine wearing this." My face :/ that came to your mind? What do you do un Saturday night?😂
2:52 it looks like the dress is gonna fall off ;-;
Gloria Nguyen no that’s a fashion style lol, my mom has one of those dresses
IKR dresses like this give me Anxiety 😭
Yeah but we can’t deny it’s gorgeous
I honestly have no idea what kind of black magic is used to keep strapless dresses propped up like that.
This 👏👏
The dresses that they showed didn't seem that bad. Obviously, they weren't as well made as the more expensive gowns, but I'd much rather buy the cheaper version if the event is something as silly as a school dance and you're only going to wear the dress once Also that guy looks like he tries on all his dresses in the dark.
HAHAHAHAHAHA he does
Megsy no
0:06 who wears a freaking wedding dress to prom?
it might just be a white prom dress with lace that looks like a wedding dress
so this girl got a free designer dress because..
Cindy Wang they we're just trying to help her out
Sweet 16
Tiger_Lily26 it literally says "prom", can't you read?
Cindy Wang it was her sweet sixteen
She white
That company was so kind to her. Quality shows, whether in the goods or in actions.
"the cheap junk? FUGGETABOUTIT"
_"jUSTlUkatdAtfUcC-"_
Yah but to pay $99 for a dress that look like it $15 to $20 would make me mad to.... but i agree i wasnt that bad
I would wear that dress. I think they’re being brats.
I wore the same dress to prom but mine was poofy
Why the f**k would you spend about 400$ on a dress that you will wear literally once? Like I just don't see why
DamaOscuraDeTodos I think they're a market scam. But if you want one, go ahead and buy it.
If I get married, I'll just wear a nice dress for less than 300$
okay kate you get what you pay for
I see getting married as a very important event but finishing school is important but not as much
I got a dress for 3:50 cents and it's beautiful I love it, it fits great although I've seriously never worn it any where
Stylistically, couples who spent less on their wedding day were more likely to be successful in marriAge.
1:30 these guys straight up made so many girls feel bad about themselves 💀💀💀
"Don't step on her dress girls!"
Inspirational XDD
+Rishro29 or maybe instead of impressing people she wants to feel good wearing a dress she loves and have fun???
+Rishro29 or maybe instead of impressing people she wants to feel good wearing a dress she loves and have fun???
No one every said "let's implement a price ceiling on prom dresses."
I wouldn't even buy a dress that costs over $90.00, I'd only wear it for a couple of hours. I'd rather just rent one instead.
Keep that mentality in mind when you get married too. 😉
At least the wedding dress you'll wear all day haha. And your wedding is a hella lot more important than high school prom-- at least if you do decide to spend more than $90 on it, you can justify it as something you really will want to keep in your closet getting dusty your whole life.
Jeanine Williams it's called yolo XD don't yell at meh plz ;-;
*Whispers* YOLO
Jeanine Williams chi
I bought mine from forever 21 for about $30 and everyone thought I got it from a designer. Money doesn’t make you look better, its how you present yourself!
