Man, the only reason why lightsabers became “glorified glow sticks” and were nerfed(in this video)is because Disney gives too much plot armor to its favorite characters, and pretty much any character it wants to give a ton of plot armor.
They also did it to eliminate dismemberment. Cant show the consequences of having nigh unstoppable energy slice through flesh... Aaaaaahhhh how I miss Jedi Outcast
It's because they suck at writing Even with all of George's clunky dialogue and boring politics, he understood how to make fights cool lightsabers will kill you, if you get hit you lose, that is the end. Therefor the majority of the fight is just not getting hit. Disney does things cheaply and choreographing entire fight scenes where no one gets hit even once is not cheap. Surviving getting hit by a lightsaber means losing a limb or what Dooku did to obi-wan, he intentionally let him live. And even those small hits completely incapacitated him.
I personally don't care much about whether or not there's much dismemberment. As long as I'm having fun or enjoying the story, I'm fine with or without dismemberment.

Patch nerfs is the reason why Palpatine didn't use lightsaber in Return of the Jedi. Damage if lightsabers to living targets is nerfed by 85% but damage from force lighting is buffed by 1000%. So as a based force lightning user, he made an obvious choice
To be fair, using the force to augment your abilities and just snapping necks with the force and your hands while you use a blaster to hyper-aim and kill everyone and also avoid blaster fire is just a hype way to fight.
