  • Do you need to make a decision on which surgery is right for you? Here I describe the differences between a lumpectomy and mastectomy. I also review what to expect with each and how to make the best decision for your body.

The only thing is. A recurrence can be from cancer that traveled or even from more breast cells that created new cancers unrelated to the other tumor.

Thank you for all of the great information. It has been really helpful.
I have a form of cutaneous lupus, but do not have systemic lupus. Can you comment if radiation may affect someone with cutaneous lupus in a negative way?
I am trying to decide on treatment options, and would like to go less invasive, but the radiation is making me nervous if it will cause flare ups in addition to all else.
I am meeting with a radiation specialist, but also wanted to get your thoughts or related experience, if you have any thoughts, or have dealt with this. Thank you!

I have recently been diagnosed with stage 1 ER and PR positive cancer in my left breast (9x5mm) and with stage 1 ER and PR positive cancer in my right breast (5x4mm). Also in my right breast, I have a focal atypical ductal hyperplasia and the need for an excisional biopsy. Is it possible to have one lumpectomy in my left breast and three lumpectomies in my right breast. The aesthetics of conserving my breasts are not my primary concern. I would rather not have to deal with the difficult recuperation that comes with mastectomy. The breast surgeon I went to will not do three lumpectomies in one breast. If it is possible, how would I find a surgeon willing to do three lumpectomies in one breast.

Curious if there are any statistics as to which procedures women with BRCA2 ER+ stage 0 cancers are selecting and what the outcomes and other statistics are... here in Dec 2023 ???
    Thank you

My partner undergo lumpectomy and the result of the biopsy is DCIS high grade 3, and the advise of doctor is again surgery and that is mastectomy.
What is your stand about this case? my partner is feeling stress because of this.

hi, having gone through lumpectamy and lymph nodes surgery, can i decide not to undergo another operation? it has been very painful i do not want any more painful procedure

You can always decide whether you are willing to undergo another procedure. The question is whether your doctor is recommending another surgery. If he or she recommends another operation, it is likely necessary. I would explain the pain you experienced with the first surgery and see if they can adjust your pain regimen for the next operation.

at the moment the pain is 10 and i donot want another painful surgery and recovery time, i can not take it now, i need time to think and may be think about it later certainly not now
they pressurise instead they should have given me an option the first time itself whether lumpectamy or mastectamy
no the wound is still very new for which it takes more then 3 months to heal and another one i cant take

i need the proof to see how they say there may be tiny cells in the edge, could they not check it at the time of first operation?
that is the very reason, they do untrasound, ct scan etc
all done which made them to operate, well for the first time itslef they need to give choice, now i do not want an operation, please help
