I really feel you, i have the same problems with hats (always had since i remember😅), but my mother in law asked me last christmas for a hat with a hole for her pony tail and it worked out great! She loves it, and I'll probably make one for myself
You made my evening, you know when coming home after a looooong rainy day with Stockholms traffic jam? I really needed something fun to watch something useful and something that cheers me up and then I saw you ❤❤❤ omg had so much fun I loved everything about your work and mostly made me laugh a lot when talked about hats 😂😂😂😂 so thank you so much dear. And waiting for you lovely designs to be out until then I wish you a happy knitting and very nice weekend.
Oow yes I see what kind of hard day you had, and I'm so very happy I could help you cheer up 💛💛 I'll try my best to continue to bring a smile to you! Thank you for your sweet comment 🥰
Feel the tangled mess experience! In winter where I live, I'm always wearing a hat as I run super cold and also have super long wavy hair. I personally don't like to pull my hair into a ponytail, so I do a few different things: 1) Knit a larger hat, put my hair in a bun at the back of my head (not the top), put the hat over the bun, and then put a DPN through the hat to affix my hair to avoid tangles. 2) Braids, a single braid or 2 braids - avoids overheating, avoids tangles, and avoids hat slipping off. Not sure if braids are your style, but this is a must for me in the colder seasons. Also not really a solution. Pattern recommendation: Top Twist Beanie by Ailbíona McLochlainn (a little wild but maybe fun idk)
I love the DPN trick!! I happen to have fancy hair needle thingys so I might try that! I also do braids sometimes but I'm that gal who's always late so I never have enough time to do my hair properly like that 😂 I love the Top Twist Beanie ! A bit wild as you say but maybe I can pull it off 👌
Yes! Hats are a problem! Ultimately I echo the other person that said bonnets are the answer (I knit the fuzzy pixie bonnet by fable knitwear, but I'm also interested in trying the neon ski bonnet!) On my journey to bonnets I tried adding elastic to the brim of a hat, it kind of worked but as soon as I put a scarf on the scarf would push the hat up my head. So sad as I love that hat! My ears love a bonnet as well, they get sore as soon as there is any wind. I'm tempted to knit a colourwork bonnet for extra warmth and ear protection! I've been loving your podcast - your passion really comes over! ❤
You're making me remember that the only hat I could wear was actually a bonnet, and I was attaching the little cords under my chin so that my scarf wouldn't push it up! Maximum stylish and much efficient 😂 my ears also hurt as soon as it's windy so I'll definitely have to look into bonnets. Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy it 💛
I love your enthusiasm for creating. Also there are patterns on Ravelry for ponytail hats. I too have long very silky hair and have hat problems. Can’t wait to make one of your patterns! Thanks for sharing your knitting plans 🫶🏻
😂😂 the hats mystery! I have curly hair and after wearing a hat I just look.... just terrible haha like "straigh/flatt" around my head and curls in the bottom... as if I used gel ... so bad 💔 I wear buns a lot so in the end I just use headbands haha.. which I still have to fix a lot, but much easier 😅Anyways, excited for your any type of yarn- Halmoni shawlette! I have some gifted single skeins that will appreciate to have some use :)
The hat that works the best for me is a very stiff, very domed hat. It basically doesn't have negative ease so it's not fighting to "contain" my hair and stays put. The downsides are that it's quite low on my forehead and doesn't really cover my ears (full-on hipster style) and it doesn't prevent my hair from felting at the back. But it's cute, and keeps my head warm!
I absolutely love the hipster style hats ! But the main part of my head that gets cold is my ears so it's very unfortunately totally useless to me 😂🥲 but I am *this* close to just go for the hipster look and warm up my ears with headphones and just never talk to anyone when I'm outside ✨️
I have the same issues with hats. Last year I made a bonnet instead and it’s a game changer. I made the Capucine by Adela Illichmanova and this year I am going to try the Neon Ski Bonnet by Lacey Volk. I’ll probably never do a beanie again 😂
Oh, I know your struggle with hats. 😅 And I have wavy/curly hair, so when I put off my hat, my hair are straight and flat. Onestly terrible. Myself I made a hat with a hole on top to insert a ponytail and it worked, but still I didn't fall in love with hats... sad story... kisses from Puglia, in the South of Italy! 😊
Ooh I can totally see what you mean, it's like when you put a hat on, you can't take it off until you wash your hair 🫠 but glad to know I'm not the only one who thought about the hole at the top of the hat! Hope you enjoy the warmth (and not needing hats yet 😂) 💛
Hats aren't a problem, but I cannot wear a cowl or scarf around my neck because it will turn the underside of the back of my neck into a felted mess. I second the vote for Cascade Eco+ for a bulkier yarn. Not superwash and can be worn next to skin without issue. I had a hat with a hole for a ponytail when I was about 7 years old. I haven't seen one since, but that doesn't mean they don't exist or that they shouldn't.
I totally see what you mean, it happens to me as well! Thanks for the yarn suggestion, if two people recommend it I should really try it. I've seen this kind of hats for children as well, but then it makes me wonder if it would look childish somehow ?
Well, I just did an image search and a lot of people are wearing ponytail hats. I think the ones with a high pony going through the hole in the very top look smartest. At least to me they do.

Oooh really?! Then it's decided, I will try it out as well! This jumped at the top of my fall knitting plans so fast 😂
Braid your hair into braids into pigtails and wear a hat. It’s really cute and it keeps your hair from tangling.
It's a great idea, I do that sometimes! But I'm often late and don't have the time to make braids so it doesn't work in all situations 😅

Fais un trou derrière comme une casquette.😅
Le trou dans les casquettes est pas du tout au bon endroit pour moi et je galère toujours à passer mes cheveux dedans 😂
