Thank you very much! I spent two hours attempting to learn the English Rib stitch using a TH-cam video which unfortunately wasn't yours. Your video is clear, well paced, nicely illustrated & a pleasure to follow, and brought me immediate success. You are very good at this! I am a lifelong Britophile, and listening to the pleasing timbre of your voice brought with it the additional pleasure of hearing "the king's English" spoken beautifully. (Not that I don't enjoy listening to a wide variety of English speakers from all over Earth; but after many frustrated attempts to master this knitting stitch it was a boon not having to back up the video several times. ) In case you're wondering, the English "Fisherman's" Rib is to be preferred over American fisherman's ribbing because what is shown in U.S. stitch books uses a method of knitting [or purling] into the stitch below the next stitch, instead of doing yarnovers. This works, but even a careful knitter is likely to split the yarn occasionally & not catch it right away. Of course the unsightly results can be corrected after the fact, but it's not much fun.
Thank you ❤ Honestly knitting videos are really hard to understand because some people do Continental and some do English knitting. I'm a beginner and I learned a lot from you when I first started crocheting around 4 years ago. Your videos are honestly the best and I can't wait to learn more about knitting with you!
Need more videos!! You have made my learning of knitting a lot easier to follow! I have watched several others and have had to rewind several times I just stop cause I get frustrated:( but here you are watched all your beginner videos and I have a much better understanding these techniques!! Thank you sooooo much please come back
Great video - this is the best instruction video for fisherman's rib I have found. I am quite an experienced knitter but not tried this stitch before. I love how my knitting looks!
Hi, tqsm. Your video is so clear. I'm 53, I first learnt to knit when I was 11. Haven geen knitting for almost 40 years. Been trying to figure out how to get this stitch right. I finally got it. Tq again.
I don't knit and last time I had tough time knitting a scarf for my husband, but this time around i found your video and how easy everything seemed to be. You explained it so well step by step that a novice like me also could knit effortlessly,a big thank you to you.
I started knitting a couple of years ago with a scarf (still haven't finished it) but I wanted to tackle a bigger project anyway and make a blanket for a friend's wedding. I found your tutorials and they've been very informative and clearly explained, helped me get even more excited about the project.
So glad I found you! I was struggling with this knit, and the directions in most books get confusing. After about five rows I could see the fisherman knit take shape and got so excited I almost dropped a knit! Thanks, will check out your other videos!
Thank you for the clear instructions and tips on what to look out for to avoid mistakes. I had a heck of a time getting this stitch down from other tutorials, but your teaching made it all come together, and my scarf is coming out beautifully now!
Thank you for a great tutorial, I was trying to follow another TH-cam channel without any success as the instructor was using the continental method of knitting and I have knitted the English way always. I have subscribed to your great channel too
Thank you! I finally understand this knitting pattern. Your tutorial is great!! I love the way you teach as you show and tell each stitch as you go along....lol, as if you were right here sitting beside me and guiding me. I don't crochet but hope to find more of your knitting tutorials ~~~Jo
Yesss!!! Awesome tutorial! I restarted this pattern so many times and this is the 3rd or 4th tutorial I've looked at and its finally working! Thank you!! Keep up the great work!
I just want to say thank you!!! This is the first time I was able to understand and do a new pattern!!! Keep up the fantastic work and teaching!! You do an excellent job!!! GOD BLESS!!
I absolutely Love the way in which you explain things.I hope you have alot of tutorials. As I know a basic stitch and I am branching out. After 3 years of knitting and 1000 scarves..
True English fisherman's rib is knitted just like normal K1, P1 rib but on every knit stitch instead of knitting the stitch you knit into the stitch below thus catching the stitch and the one below it into one knit stitch (K1b = knit one below). Much easier and quicker and I believe achieves the same result. I'm from the UK and learned to knit in the 1950's!
Thank you so much.. I was searching for this video so much bcoz i dont know how to end it... I am jst trying to make these things... I always use TH-cam for guides . I dnt have any teacher for it... Thnku soooo mch
I would love to you to hake like a 1-2 hour video making a jumper or something of that nature. Through your videos, I've learned how to do the knit, pearl and now rib stitch! So I would love to make a specific product and you're really amazing at teaching, so, please make a video combining or using all these stitches to make a specific product aimed towards beginners. Also, thank you so much for teaching and encouraging us to build on our knitting! 🧶🧡
I wish you have more knitting videos. I subscribed to your crochet channel. I want to learn how to knit now but not everybody know how to explain very well.
I will do more, i'm still planning on filming my second cable video, and I'm hoping to do a beanie video soon as well. Just need more hours in the day! :D
omg I love every single one of your videos. You have the very best tutorials. Thank you for ALL of your hard work and all of the time you have given to making these amazing videos. Please don't stop! ~ Lisa in Colorado, USA
Very well done, so easy to understand (many thanks from a beginner!). Seems easier than other techniques and may use less yarn (not sure)?? No matter, I like it and can't wait to try it. Thank you!
Thank you for this helpful video, the clearest way of explaining. Unless I was not careful enough while listening, I think you forgot a very important element that we ,knitters all need to know before starting : mentioning the number of stitches: multiple of… X number of stitches? Plus how many stitches do we need in addition for the edge For later seaming. I have watch quite a few videos on english ribbing and they seem to contradict each other. Before watching your video I could not knit this stitch despite several attempts from watching several professional knitters’videos. Thanks to you,I know I can now.I just need that missing info.
Hi there - thanks so much for this, I have followed it and am now finally at the end of my scarf! Can you help at all with how to cast off this stitch? No idea where to start! Xx
I love this stitch, thank you so much! Small problem, I have knitted 2 scarves and for whatever reason had to pull back my knitting and took my work off the needles. Can you explain how to put back on the needles when this happens? When I put my knitting back on the needles, I end up 5 stitches short, something tells me these are the "yarn overs" that are missing. Thank you very much for your help!
I have followed this stitch from your tutorial and I love it..... I have made a very long scarf, however..... I am completely new to knitting and have one question..... how do I cast off with this stitch, all the vids I have viewed are either the mock, or American and very confusing! Please help xx
I love your videos and have been working on a scarf in Fishermans Rib (English). I've had to restart the scarf way too many times to count because sometimes I just lose a stitch. I've got to the furthest length now and i've done it again! I could cry. I really can't work out how to pick up this one stitch and wondered if you could help / post a quick video. Your last video was so long ago but any help you could give me would be amazing!! thank you.
Thank you for this video! I tried it and it looks great :D Will you be uploading a video of how to cast off this type of knitting? I know how to cast off knit and purl stitches, but what about the slipped one here and the two knit together?
What type of yarn is best for knitting this project or what type are you using? I love this project all the yarn I tried is very hard it splits very easy
Such a good video, tried 3 others and couldn’t get the hang of it until this one, thanks! How would this work for knitting a beanie in the round? Would it effectively create a seam because of the knit stitches at the beginning and end of the rows?
I’m a new subscriber . I’m learning how to knit and find your videos very helpful and easy to follow. Thank you so much! Do you have any projects using “circular needles “?
Could you do a tutorial on bubble stitch please? Your videos are great, I’m a beginner and I’ve managed to make my daughter a hairband from following your vid for fisherman rib 👍
Love the video! Could you please help with two things though - how to cast off and also how to fix the knitting when you’ve dropped loops? Please let me know I’m working on a Christmas gift!
I would also know how to fix dropped stitches with this alternate rib. I'm trying to make a scarf for my Dad and I'm stuck because of a dropped stitch! :((( @HappyBerryKnitting could you help us? 😁😁
natalie drewery just knit two stitches then pull the bottom stitch over and off the needle. Then, knit 1 stitch then pull over one off. Then 1 stitch and pull over and off and so on, and so on. when u finally get to the last stitch, tie a knot. super tightly.
I followed your tutorial and in the middle of a scarf I made a bad mistake. trying to recover I made it worse, slipping the stitches off the needle. Can you explain how to recover the work (even if in a lower position).
Hi,I really like your channel and I was wondering if you could help me.When I finish my work it always seems so loose and you can see big holes between my yarn.I know that I am a beginner and that I still need a lof of practise but I have tried many times and it doesn't look very nice. So,do you have any advice for me?
Are you dropping stitches? Losing stitches is a common cause of holes. Or if your stitches are just too big, try using smaller needles or holding the yarn tighter.
Thank you very much! I spent two hours attempting to learn the English Rib stitch using a TH-cam video which unfortunately wasn't yours.

Thanks a lot for the video. I have been knitting for years but just couldn't work out my pattern. Now it's really clear what English rib is. Super!!!!
AMAZING!!!! After 55 years of knitting I will be replacing ALL future ribbing with this method!!
I wish I had teachers that were as patient and helpful as you :) Thank you very much, an absolute life-saver x

This rings a bell with me too as I once knitted a Fisherman's Rib jumper with knit one below!

hi, is there any difference when knitting in the round?
Does anyone know how to cast off using this stitch? I’ve tried casting off how you would for the fisherman’s knit, but they don’t work. Thanks!
Do the scarf or shawl cast off it's called extra stretchy bind off
How do you finish this?
