In this tutorial we take a look at three different techniques for quickly and simply adding shading to your animations! We cover manually adding shading using the pencil tool to create quick clean shapes. Then we take a look at using 'adjustment layer' techniques with different blending modes. Finally, we used bevel and emboss (yes, really!) to create some quick soft shadows. Let's do it!

Or instead of going frame by frame, You could save the head as a graphic before you start animating. Thanks for this tutorial though, super helpful! I subscribed!
You may also you lasso tool to add shading and colors. Although it is not as flexible as methods mentioned in the video. For a fast moving object or something that will appear for very short time on screen - lasso tool should be fine.

I used the blending mode technique but When I was exporting the animation the Layers effects were gone and I don’t know how to fix this issue as it keeps being normal shading without the transparency effects after exporting from media encoder

In 2nd technique. creating a new layer does not give me the -color effects, blend panels in properties bar. Is the layer to be created in movie clip mode to get access to blend mode techniques??

Use more BLUE for shadow. Black is neutral. Shadows are blue
Shadows can be the colour of whatever they're being cast from, but good tip!

When I use overlay at all even without the alpha, it doesn’t render correctly what do I do
when I turn body parts into symbols but want to undo it (not strg + z) how can I cancel a symbol and make the body part a part from the whole body again? thx
i have a question about the pencil tool technique, every time i try to use the pencil tool in adobe animate instead of drawing what i want it adds anchor points, and ive tried to figure out how to fix that but googling doesnt seem to be any help. i have it set to pen tool and not "add anchor" or anything like that but it still only adds anchors and curves when i try to draw with it. how do i fix this?
The pencil tool is different to the pen tool, make sure you're using the pencil tool. If you don't see it, click the three dots below the toolbar and it'll be in there. You can drag it out to your tool bar.

At 2:39, I am not able to delete the red guide stroke at all. Scribbling all over the drawing in the red, just makes parts of it disappear. Doesn't work the way you show here for me.

It will only let me delete small segments of the pencil stroke? Takes forever. :( Adobe Animate won't let me delete the entire stroke with one key, anyone else getting this problem?
When I double click on the pencil line, it doesn't do anything. I couldn't select all the pencil line even when I drew in them with pencil. Can anyone please tell me what to do

I'm using the pencil technique and it fills the whole object in, I don't know if Adobe messed this up or it's just a problem on my end

a better way to delete all the lines on the first one (atleast in my opinion) is too set the pencil color to nothing and boom
