died at 52. same year as Victoria wood in 2016. What a double blow for legendary female comedians. Two of the greatest writers of comedy ever nevermind their acting skills.
That was an absolute joy. So many faces from yesteryear, wonderful trip down memory lane. What a brilliant character Mrs Merton was . RIP Caroline, you are very much missed. Thanks for the upload.
@@beachlife2968 To be fair, that wouldn't be surprising seeing as the vast majority of them were at least well into their sixties and this programme ended 25 years ago.
@@Mike--Oxmall i think he made a very unfair comment, she wasn't insane at all, she was a private person who unfortunately battled with a lot of health issues throughout her life. she did what she did for the love of the job, not for fame.
I tell you what ... back when this was on the Tele and there was no internet, you tuned in to this every week and got all your exercise for the evening picking yourself up off the floor. She was brilliant.
Totally agree she’s one of the greats, but I think she did get full recognition, you could feel the shock and grief when she passed away from public and celebrity alike, heartbreaking it came so close to Victoria Wood’s passing too.
People always tend to immediately say things such as "underrated" and "not enough recognition" when someone has died. Well I think after 11 awards and 5 nominations, she did get the deserved recognition. It's just tragic that her life was cut so short.
2019 still fantastic Shows how garbage TV is today . Rolf Harris and cell block H .. Did Mrs Merton know something back then . I was also shocked on how many of her guests are no longer with us . R.I.P Caroline gone but not forgotten x
Her comedy and creativity is amazing, and Mrs Merton, brilliant character to get away with saying anything,it was almost like the guests were fooled into thinking she was senior citizen and just had to sit and take what she said, add the audience and the illusion was complete, brilliant. Caroline Aherne♥️💕
What a joy to watch! Caroline opitomised northern humour at it's very best. So so funny listening to her risque comments, what a brilliant mind and still makes us howl with laughter x
I think closely followed by "does your wife watch Supermarket Sweep" (you can see him thinking 'ha you bitch'). And not on this video, when Martin Clunes comes on she says to the pensioners "do you know who he is now girls?"
I'd not heard that one .. she was as sharp as a knife tbh i wish she'd done more Mrs Merton... she was just soo quick with her replys but her put downs were legendary. A lot of young comedians should watch this and realise you don't have to f and blind to make a point
'The Tears of a Clown' may be an age old saying: It is widely known that Caroline had many personal troubles. I hope that the name of 'Caroline Aherne' wil be embedded in history for all time as one the best ever talents in the history of comedy.
Every episode was brilliant. I remember her heated debate on conservation. 'Sting he's great isn't he, all that saving the rainforest. But where was he when they dug up our bowling green.' Brilliant. I also loved her routine Sister Immaculate who was a catty nun. Much missed Caroline.
A mix of guests, in no particular order. Then you have Gary Rhodes, followed by Clive James. Who both passed away within hours of each other, many years down the line.
This comedy style of interviewing originated in Australia in the 1970s by a tv character named Norman Gunston real name Garry MacDonald, a brilliant actor and comedian.
So many great guests and the host, who are sadly no longer with us. Though, I had to laugh when Mrs Merton said Rolf Harris and Prisoner Cell Block H were the two best things to come out of Australia. Rolf became his own prisoner in Cell Block H!

only made it to 3.18 before I stopped watching the only one I knew was the lovely Debbie Mcgee
There was me, aware of how many of these guests are dead now and I totally forgot Caroline Aherne's no longer with us either!
@@TheRowlandstone73 No doubt most of the audience are dead too. We are only here for a small window of time.

Caroline and Victoria Wood. Supreme Northern comedic talent.
Geniuses
the absolute brilliance of Caroline Aherne is here for everyone to see, so sad she isn't here to entertain us now
B C love her miss her so much
She was completely insane in real life….sad…
@@kbrown649 Why what did she do?
@@Mike--Oxmall i think he made a very unfair comment, she wasn't insane at all, she was a private person who unfortunately battled with a lot of health issues throughout her life. she did what she did for the love of the job, not for fame.
@@andyb3666 She did it for fame and money same as the rest of them don't make her out to be some sort of saint
I'd forgotten how Sharp she was. What a sad loss
I tell you what ... back when this was on the Tele and there was no internet, you tuned in to this every week and got all your exercise for the evening picking yourself up off the floor. She was brilliant.
No joke. I first saw her at a room above a pub in Didsbury (The Clock Tower I think) and I literally fell of my stool because I was laughing so hard.
So sad we lost Caroline far too soon , a great talent. Rest in peace lovely
Very true 😊
One of the greats...didn't get the full recognition she deserved. RIP Caroline

Legend of comedy, her ad-libs were incredible
The quick wit was on par with Dame Edna.
I miss Caroline. She was wonderful. Thanks for posting.
She took the Barry humphries model and did it so brilliantly, I’d forgotten just how brilliant
barry humphries (dame edna everidge) was the first thing i thought of when i watched this
Caroline Ahearne! What a comical talent. Able to improvise like that with quick come backs! Your surely missed lovely x
RIP Caroline, you are amazing. RIP to her guests that have also passed.
2019 still fantastic

Funny how Clive James & Gary Rhodes are both on here & both passed this week.
I was just thinking that myself-how many of the guests shown here are no longer with us.
Absolutely talented and so missed
Chris Eubank was so egotistical and he made a complete fool of himself. Some people are just incapable of laughing at themselves. Aherne was superb.
I miss her so much, she was a genius.
This was brilliant! I miss Caroline's sense of humor so much. Always guaranteed to make me laugh till I cry! Thank you for posting.
Brilliant lady, RIP Caroline
Loved this quick glimpse of Gary Rhodes as well
Fkin brilliant! A short lived classic.
Lightning quick. Bless her x
So beautiful, i never met her but if i did i dont think id be able to take my eyes off of her.
Talk about under-rated. This, her bits in The Fast Show, and for those of us of a certain age - Sister Mary Immaculate. Genius.
Missed this , she was so amazing , clever , talented, and missed so much ❤😢
Caroline - you were a genius R.I.P
To Rolf Harris:
'You've made Australia popular... you and Cell Block H.'
Prophetic.
This character has a lot of Jim royle in it. The sharp wit and put downs and passive aggressiveness. She was so marvellous
People couldn't even write this now and here it is improvised. Comedy genius
Is that true..surely it must have been part scripted ?
There were four writers on the show.
Her genius wasn't that it was improvised but that she could make the writing seem like it.
Very scripted but that's not to take away the brilliance of Caroline Aherne's delivery of the "set pleces". Comedy genius indeed. RIP Caroline.
I used to LOVE this. Laugh out loud hilarious now and then.
Her comedy and creativity is amazing, and Mrs Merton, brilliant character
to get away with saying anything,it was almost like the guests were fooled into thinking she was senior citizen and just had to sit and take what she said, add the audience and the illusion was complete, brilliant.
Caroline Aherne♥️💕
RIP Caroline. You were absolutely genius
RIP Caroline. Comedy genius. Writer, actor, producer the lot.
What a joy to watch!
Caroline opitomised northern humour at it's very best.
So so funny listening to her risque comments, what a brilliant mind and still makes us howl with laughter x
Her best comment ever was to Debbie McGee when she said what first attracted you to the multi millionaire Paul Daniels ?? Classic..
I think closely followed by "does your wife watch Supermarket Sweep" (you can see him thinking 'ha you bitch'). And not on this video, when Martin Clunes comes on she says to the pensioners "do you know who he is now girls?"
She was a true comedian. Legend
My God! That was a 20 minute vid and went by in a moment! More please!!!!!
“Richard and Judy...they’re married you know...not mother and son”..hilarious 🤣🤣
I'd not heard that one .. she was as sharp as a knife tbh i wish she'd done more Mrs Merton... she was just soo quick with her replys but her put downs were legendary. A lot of young comedians should watch this and realise you don't have to f and blind to make a point
The layers to that joke.
She was DAMN quick
"Are you Paul Merton's mother?"
"No, are you?"
'The Tears of a Clown' may be an age old saying: It is widely known that Caroline had many personal troubles.
I hope that the name of 'Caroline Aherne' wil be embedded in history for all time as one the best ever talents in the history of comedy.
Amen!
We've still got lots of her lovely work to enjoy! 😊
Hilarious. And a few tears mourning the loss of many guests including caroline
Loved watching her show. RIP Caroline
They’ll never be another. Genius.
i watched the full 20.32 mins....pure genius.....very very funny lady
Rest in peace Caroline Ahearne. And a huge number of the guests in this video 😕
I was completely ignorant of this genius, until TH-cam threw this at me. A masterclass in wickedly witty! I have a new role model.😊
Can't believe most of these people have died, including her 😭😭😭
"Lovely, sit down before Im sick." Fucking hell, she was a sharp one.
Fabulous. Genius. So missed
Every episode was brilliant. I remember her heated debate on conservation. 'Sting he's great isn't he, all that saving the rainforest. But where was he when they dug up our bowling green.' Brilliant.

Classic - possibly the best !
She was brilliant and a gorgeous lady
TH-cam should have a laugh 😂 button. One of my favourite shows.
"Someone who's not so puddled" just did me in.
Watch over and over again and think of my dearest friend Ainsley Best
Blimey! An appearance on her show and you had a 50% chance of kicking the bucket early!
She was brilliant.
She just asked the most honest questions lol...
Amazing woman.. rip
i do miss her she is so funny
such a great actress and presenter i Love her
She was so beautiful
Shocking to realise how many are now gone!
I watch this at least once a week!
Sadly missed. Such a talent.
"Are you on drugs Carol?" 😂😂😂
Line to Debbie McGee was an absolute comedy Gold mate..
And the line response to Paul Daniels, he said "I only married Debbie for her money'
And Caroline's line back, "no-- no you didn't" .........
A mix of guests, in no particular order. Then you have Gary Rhodes, followed by Clive James. Who both passed away within hours of each other, many years down the line.
Weird how things like that turn out.
Maybe the studio was full of asbestos
Caroline Aherne what a fantastic talent
(about Mark Thatcher) "No, I'll give him a miss"
This comedy style of interviewing originated in Australia in the 1970s by a tv character named Norman Gunston real name Garry MacDonald, a brilliant actor and comedian.
Brilliant. Wow. Chris Eubank was way too serious.
This was a treat. Such a loss to us all that she l ft early.
"Sit down before i'm... sick"
The best 🙏
"You are the female Margaret Thatcher aren't ya? is it true you both have 666 on the back of your head?" LMAO!
I was in the queue at Waterstones a few years ago, turned around and Edwina Curry was standing right behind me. Scared me to death.
Just brilliant 😎
A comic genius. Rest in peace kaz
Caroline never got the credit she deserved Amazing wit, comic genius.
So funny & sharp & very much missed !
Loved her in the Royale family, so sad she's gone.
So many great guests and the host, who are sadly no longer with us. Though, I had to laugh when Mrs Merton said Rolf Harris and Prisoner Cell Block H were the two best things to come out of Australia. Rolf became his own prisoner in Cell Block H!
Absolutely amazing.. probably even better than the Royle Family and that was unbelievable
Genius. Legend.
I would have liked to see a few more interviewee reactions and some of their answers.
You can find many of the full interviews on youtube
Hilarious......and absolute legend!!!!!
Mrs Merton was awsome.
Caroline Aherne, comic genius and lovely lady RIP
Funniest lady ever X rest in peace caroline
She was a genius.
Legend
Having a go at people is friendly its cockney way better than talking behind there backs
Caroline- "Do you know who finds you absolutely fascinating"
Edwina - "Go on"
Caroline- "You"

She really was a treasure.
