    I remember the first time watching him play against Winconsin. I flipped through the channel, and saw his 76 yard touch down run. Ever since then, he's been my favorite quarter back. He'll always be my favorite quarterback. He deserves more recognition, and grand appreciation. Live long. Taylor Martinez.: T-magic.

    I kind of felt sad watching this, because Taylor had so much potential that he wasn't able to showcase because of his injury riddled career and the press always talking about negative things with him, like his throwing form. He was a great quarterback for the offense that Nebraska ran, he had a great college future ahead of him and it's a shame it ended like it did. I wish him the best of luck with his future.

  • @kingswoodshortstop2

    Taylor was a great quarterback in so many ways, he was always the fastest player on the field and he could make you miss easily, people doubt his passing when he wasn't so bad. The teams we had the best chances to go far were the ones where Taylor was Freshman and a Sophomore. In his Freshman year we got screwed at Texas A&M on some really bad calls and plays. If we won that game we go top five then come back to Lincoln and play #6 Missouri and beat them like we did. Heck, that year we could've gone to the title game, but the A&M game screwed us and so did Taylor's ankle injury. That year is the closest we've ever gotten in the past 7 or 8 years.

    He had so much more potential than how his career ended. If he would have just been a little more patient in the pocket and had a better grip on the ball, he would have been remembered as iconic.

    Amazing athlete. I don't recall a faster player ever at Nebraska. Played on average teams and was not up to the mental aspect of being a QB. Made some very odd decisions to say the least. But he could throw at times and was a very dangerous runner. Not sure that Crouch has much on him as an overall player, but Crouch had much better personnel around him and a much better coach.

  • @NickyBandzDiMinno

    He Is the first qb I watched as a diehard fan he was an animal. Much better than Armstrong. If we let him play his game instead of trying to make him a pocket passer, he would of had more trophies in the end. Tmagic will always be remembered by me. For the fans hating it's a team sport not his fault he was a bcs champ and for a college qb this kid was special not too many players were as unique and will be.

  • @jontheis5644
    @jontheis5644 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here it is cut and dry. Taylor Martinez was a freak of an athlete, easily one of the fastest guys to step foot on the turf of Memorial Stadium. His first year he ran with purpose and ran with a swagger of "You can't stop me because you can't catch me." after the injury you watched a freak athlete turn into a guy who even forced it upon himself to become a better "throwing QB". He was good as a freshman because nobody had seen him, nobody knew what his secret was. As that year and the rest of his career progressed coaches obviously picked up on what they needed to do to stop him. That is where he started to become the guy who "many fans blamed losses on for no reason." He started to learn to throw better and dang it if he was on point he was a damn good thrower as well. Where he rightfully earns every inch of criticism he received is his decision making. You can show every one of his touchdowns from his career and people can easily say "Oh he isn't really THAT bad." Maybe Martinez was cursed by Murhpy's Law (If anything can go wrong it will) and heck one could even say he was cursed by Newton's 3rd Law (For every positive action there is an equal opposite reaction) but for as many good things as you see him do in this video there were equally if not worse negative actions as well. Maybe you are just hanging out with the wrong crowd OP and maybe you might just be too much of a T-Magic fan boy or girl whichever it may be. Everyone I know appreciates him for what he deserves which is just enough. Look at it this way though, if Tommy Frazier, Eric Crouch, Turner Gill, Scott Frost, etc. actually played all 4 years of their respective careers they'd probably equally if not far more superior stats than Taylor hands down. Maybe if Taylor had a few conference championship wins under his belt all of my previous comment would be a LOT different but that is a good hefty portion of why people down play Taylor. After all in 1 year of PT Tommy Armstrong now has as many bowl victories as Taylor did in 4.

    • @JHusker13
      @JHusker13  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with many of your points, I just think some people gave him undeserved crap. I'm not claiming he's in the same category as Frazier or Crouch, I just think he needs more recognition for the good things he did in a husker uniform rather than his turnover problem and lack of big wins. You can't always just blame the QB for losing a game, especially when our defense was the main problem during his time at Nebraska.

    • @CPromiseTheis
      @CPromiseTheis 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JHusker13 And he most definitely was not helped by his defense in numerous situations that goes without saying. But when the pressure was on, he seemed to crumble more often than rise. I still like the guy as a player no doubt, I will remember him for his crazy runs and his amazing (though often hard/terrifying to watch) throws. Maybe he doesn't get hurt in the Misery game and runs like he did his first some odd games as a freshman, maybe we would have won some conference championships and some big time bowl games. That's just the joys and pains of college football, any given Saturday you never know what is going to happen.

    T martinez was screwed over to mediocre coaching. his freshman year was a typical freshman year. His second year was his worst due to tim beck becoming the qb coach and he was not a good qb coach. his junior year we saw great improvement due to him going back to work with his high school qb coach over the summer(sad he had to do that). I think that drama between him and bo were true. i think he saw bo wasn't getting the right guy to coach him up and martinez and his dad were not happy about this. Prob one of the many reasons i'm sure his brother left.

      @@forreal2398 He's far better than you give him credit for. Had a better completion % than Armstrong or Zac Taylor & he played hurt a lot because we didn't have a backup his first two seasons. Most total offense in Nebraska history for any Freshman or Junior & 2nd most total offense, only about 460 yards behind Armstrong in 1 fewer game, better completion %age & passer rating than Armstrong. He was a QB, no two ways about it.

    I never understood how anyone could hate him. All he ever did was bust his ass for us Nebraska fans. Also, I've never seen anyone who could run the read option or qb draw as good as him. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for him in the NFL.

    Never seen a player not only not improve since Freshman year, but get worse. Three things happened:
    1. Defenses began to figure NU out
    2. Someone told Taylor he needed to pass more and stay in the pocket...something he was not naturally gifted at
    3. He fumbled all the time. As such, he then ran to protect the ball and would often stop, stand up, grip the ball for life, and get plastered by the defender. He became a way worse runner as his career progressed.

    He was a decent QB at best. He has some great speed, that I agree with. He could go from nothing to blazing in a step, but his passing was average at best. His vision was horrible. He could run in the open field, but seemed not to know how to use his blockers or get around them. Lots of times he ran into them. Taylor would have been a much better play...not playing QB. Case in point when he left the game, Nebraska improved offensive. He wasn't a leader on the field and very seldom got fired up about anything. I think it was a huge showing of his lack of melding with other players when they showed him on the sideline by himself or when he was in the booth during his injury. Neither of which speak to someone that views himself as leader of a football team. I hope he does well in the pros, he is great guy. Just not a great QB.

    Such a great athlete, I feel sorry for him that he wasted his career at QB he would have been picked in the draft if he had played saftey or wide receiver. But he is no QB not even close, I see what you guys are saying, But the only reason he broke all of those passing records is because he was one of the very few 4 year starters at Nebraska. And as the years progressed and he learned more about the position he learned he needed to protect his body he started to brace for hits and never used his quick agility after his freshman year, he also hesitated when he could have ran which was what made him a threat. And when T-Magic would run thats when the magic happened but every year he ran less often and less aggressive.

    Great ATHLETE, HORRIBLE QB. Say what you will about records. But he was a ball hog, He played for Taylor not the team, made terrible decisions in the pocket. Paniced if his first option was taken and just took off running. turn over prone and his overall skill set never improved. He did work on his throwing motion which got better over the YEARS, But he never should have the starter for 3+ years. Zac Lee got robbed of his senior season because the coaching staff got greedy on taylor and should have given him more time to develop. And dont forget, the only reason he broke all the records he did was because he started more games than any other Nebraska QB.
