BBALLBREAKDOWN zaza slides under kawhi 2 possessions after he steps on david lee's foot from the bench. that's more than suspect that's shit you can't hide: dirty.
BBALLBREAKDOWN You're an idiot. If you were really a fan you would know that fans are talking about today. He is the dirtiest player in the game TODAY. No one said EVER. You must be a gsw fan. Cough cough bandwagon
What I think you're missing is that Kwai didn't deserve this regardless of pops past actions further more who the hell cares if Zaza is the "Dirtiest" it's irrelevant he is dirty full stop. Might I add that it ended a potentially interesting series by default
johan vanwyk Kawhis foot was banged up when he stood on David Lees foot. Even if hadn't of injured it on Zazas he would have injured it twisting on a turn or defending a play. It was bad coaching by Pop to leave him in the ball game.
johan vanwyk saying kawhi didn't deserve it is idiotic. It doesn't matter if someone deserves it. Literally all the examples he gave of players doing dirty plays are against people who, subjectively, didn't deserve it. The fact that you think that is an important argument means you missed the bigger picture here.
I don't give a rats ass who's the dirtiest player in the NBA to be honest, I'm pretty upset at this and I'm not even a Spurs fan, can't imagine how that fan base must be feeling right now.
Kyle Ornelas didn't they win 2 championships in the last decade or 12 years? They actually made the playoffs With Coach Pap every year since he got their
In the video you talked many times about Bown v KB, but you didn't mention how KB also likes to throw elbows at players defending him and then acting all innocent afterward. Anway, I've a question: Would you consider MJ's nudge in the 98 finals an offensive foul?
J. Lee great question! hope he answers it. i definitely consider it was an offensive foul. nba gotta sell though. at least that didnt get a guy injured although it could have had stole that same guy a title. not sure what hurts the most.
Lol I'm a Heat fan and I have to admit Wade's done some dirty things. But several of those plays were in retaliation to things his opponents did. Like I remember when he shoved Rip Hamilton cause he was illegally nudging him.
shi What are your criteria for judging the appearance of intent, exactly? Ah, maybe you're right... I mean, I can't count how many times my right arm *unintentionally* locked onto someone else's as I fell to the floor... then *unintentionally* refused to let go as I landed in a sideways heap... then *magically* let go once the chances of hurting the other person had passed. Come on, buddy.
In different angles it looks like it wasn't intentional but in some it looks like a dirty play, although just like you said he has a history of being dirty.
Chef Curry of course snakes like each other that way. Especially a bunch of marvel universe retards have no idea how basketball been manipulated by NBA executives and yet have cum in their pants all the time🤣 Even funnier when ref start doing their jobs on the snakes then snakes complain that it is not right😂 oh fuck, I don’t know the snake standard and I am sorry that snakes have trouble recognize these hunch snakes are the least popular champ team at all time😂 Snakes will be snakes tho. Keep up the good work
Heck yes it was dirty. Bowen didn't need to look down to know where the landing foot is going. That's what peripheral vision is for, and I'm pretty sure athletes at the NBA have that coordination.
Peripheral vision is for detecting movement, not detail. You'd never be able to tell where the foot was going to land based only on peripheral vision. You'd be able to see that there's something moving, but you'd have absolutely no depth perception which means it would be near impossible to tell exactly where someone's foot would land.
+Simon You can always tell by someone's comments whether someone has played sports in their lives. The "armchair" analysts always break it down like it's some impossible science, while people that have actually played ball know damn well how easy it is merely put your foot under a shooter.
lol I see now comments about Zaza being the "DIRTIEST" player, only comments about him being a dirty player, which seems to be unanimously agreed upon.
spurs vs cavs isn't new. What he did was dirty. He may or may not be a dirty player, but what he did IS dirty. Doesn't matter who did it first, or who else did it. The play was dirty. Moving your a step feet CLOSER is wrong. Poor spurs - and Kiwi
There should be a penalty if you hurt a player because it really messes up the whole series. I'm not going for any team but I really think that sucks for the team the player is on
Listen to the entire interview, stop acting like fake news and taking portions of the interview...Aftewards, he clearly stated that he would have to go back and look at it....
Objective. I like it. Not gonna lie, I was a defender of Zaza. But you do bring up a good point and I can see why people would think it's dirty upon further review. That said, you're right that Pop can't have it both ways.
Believe in Jesus Christ receive his gift of salvation and eternal life follow Jesus with all your heart keep his commandments change your desires and put God first love God with your everything love others as yourself spread the word of God
Hypocrite? I am not sure about using that term. It has more to do with defending your team's interests as a coach putting preassure on the league than giving your personal opinion.
Hypocrite AF, it's ok when my player injures other stars, but when they do it to mine it's dirty. I'm not saying zaza's play wasn't dirty, but what pop said was hipocrisy at it's best
echeva95 for whatever reason he is contradicting himself being a hypocrite is being a hypocrite. I respect coach popovich but if he knew what bowen was doing then he is a hypocrite.
@José Francisco it wasn't hypocrisy mate there was no rule against it back then that's why he defended bowen. but now there is a rule against that sort of play, big difference. for example back then people drove while intoxicated because it wasn't illegal to drink and drive, but now it is illegal. that doesn't make those people hypocrite if they tell you, you shouldn't drink and drive
voldezee doesn't matter if it's legal or not. Plus, you're ignoring the fact that although the NBA came to them and Bowen about it, he was STILL defending Bowen. It's hypocrisy!
Funny watching dudes that never played the game on tv saying it wasn't his intention to put his feet under Leonard GTFOH At the same time I was laughing at Pop crying about it when he never gave a single bad look to Bruce while he attacked played ankles around the league for the Spurs
Come on Coach Nick. I stole a candy once. Does that mean of anything is stolen from me, I can't complain? Spurs players travel, so Pop can't complain about traveling calls, right? Did Bowen do some shady stuff? Sure did. Albeit, he was a wing defender, going up against the best offense in the league every night. Does that mean Puchulia gets a pass? I think not. Dirty play is dirty play. Kawhi is arguably the best player in the league. If you were the coach, you would not be upset? You wouldn't address it at all, and just say, 'well, i had a player 10 years ago that did that, so no problem'.
The difference between players then (like Bowen) vs now: Players now are trained and taught not to do these things. As far as I can see with Bowen, he was naturally going inward in one motion. Zaza took an extra step back.
It was a dirty play. He steps under Kawhi's feet which forces Kawhi to find his balance as he lands. Zaza knows he is too late for the shot. He doesn't want to contest the shot, he simply wants to disrupt Kawhi's landing which he knows could lead to an injury or just frustrate Leonard by getting under his skin.
And he made TWO additional small Steps, to be sure....Bowen did not do that, and that is the Point that Pop was talking about..!! So, Pop was right, and BBallMerchant and his Friends are full of shit.!!
Doesn't matter if it was intentional or if some other player ever did it. Not giving a shooter space to come down should be a flagrant 2 and if the player is injured the player committing the foul should miss as many games as the injured player.
Hello coach, another great video, by far the best video about this subject. It's worth waiting a day to watch such a video (after the fact) than every sterile comment that are everywhere on the web. Continue to do what you do, you're one of the best at it ^^
I don't think Zaza is playing particularly dirty, but he is playing sloppy and lazy and Kawhi hurt because of it. I think Pop was pissed because of a number of missed called on Zaza screens when he simply grabbed the guy because he couldn't get into position to screen properly (also I'm pretty sure everyone does this, but I saw him do it a couple of times where it seems like his standard screen ha)
Ha no, I have no sides in this series, if anything I want the Warriors to win because that finals rematch is gonna be lit. But, as a fan of basketball, I am upset when one team's star player can't compete due to injury.
Lol. If Zaza was in Spurs: Pop: The people who cry about it are just frustrated about having to go against Zaza. You be Zaza. You’re the best (expletive) defender in this league. You will NOT change the way you play defense.
The thing that made it look intentional in my eyes is that extra step he took. He could've gathered his momentum without that extra step. The ball was already released and on it's way before that extra step. He had a decent contest without needing to take that extra step over the 3 point line with his left foot but he did it anyway knowing full well that the shooter has to land somewhere. Yes, Kawhi was fading away from the step back shot, and Zaza STILL managed to put his foot underneath his landing zone. I don't know how you can do that but then again, it's easy to have opinions behind a keyboard and not in the heat of the moment on the floor in a playoff game. I missed this game so I never really knew about this and just found out about it now. It's hard for me to say this wasn't intentional when Zaza has a well documented history of suspect basketball plays.
I'm a Spurs fan so obviously biased, but just three small comments: 1) I'm not sure going to the fouls from the 90's and especially 80's is very useful for this debate. The game evolves, the rules are more precise and refs' focus to prevent injuries is different. The same thing happened in football with horse-collar tackles, concussions and others formerly "tolerated" stuff. 2) A lot of people call Pop hypocrite because of Bowen, but a good coach will never trash his own player in public. Even if the 29 other coaches and the league office agreed that Draymond Green is dirty, I would still not expect Kerr to go out and trash him. That doesn't mean I don't think Kerr or Pop are overall honest guys. 3) Regardless of the play itself, I abhor those Dubs fans in the arena who have been chanting "MVP" to Pachulia in the rest of the game. Of course there is a rivalry. Go ahead and praise a player for a block or a tough shot he makes. But approve of a foul play that results in an injury as praiseworthy is just shameful. And please don't tell me it was an "irony". I understand humor but this wasn't funny. Those fans should be ashamed of themseves.
nba fans aren’t ready to talk about Bruce Bowen (coached by Pop) who would famously step under jump shots and injury players, especially against Kobe and Vince 🤷♂️
So your argument is that if other players are dirty Zaza isn't dirty ? People are so angry because this dirty play won warriors the series. And I don't hate the warriors i like their style of play i'm just angry cause Zaza took a fun series away from us.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that little Zaza/Westbrook bump that happened this season. I'll probably get flack for saying this, as messed up as that was, I gotta admit, it was kinda badass when he stood over him and owned up to it. As if saying, "Yeah, I did it. What are you gonna do about it?" I suppose In his defense for that game in particular, that was a very dirty game. A lot of name calling, fights and fouls. Fun as hell to watch, though.
I also have to believe Pachulia wasn't trying to hurt Leonard, but, you have to question why he took that extra last step after he KNEW the ball was already gone. I don't buy the "blocking out" bit because he would have had to turn, square to the basket, and head AWAY from Leonard after the shot. Taking one extra step toward the sideline, then, would be stupid under the circumstances. Maybe, that is the million dollar answer.
Well done coach. I couldn't stand the hypocrisy pop demonstrates either. It can be a dirty play by Zaza, but pop is the last person to have a word on that
that should be called illegal closeout, penalized as a flagrant as long as the shooter doesnt jump ahead, and the player and franchise should be strongly fined if the shooter gets injured.
didn't notice it at first, but look how much Zaza extends his leg before the 2 steps after. like he thought Kawhi was gonna land there, then shuffles his feet after noticing Kawhi faded away
Seriously, people are bring Bowen into this? That was over a decade ago and since then the rules have changed. It wasn't enforced so lots of players did it. Just ask Jalen Rose. www.espn.com/video/clip?id=13907598 Don't be a idiot, Nick. You know damn well it was a common thing to do back then.
not everything has been banned from the NBA, does someone need to bring in a a deadly item for it to be in the rule book? It is common sense. Fucken Pop is a shrewd.
Pop got a big hit of karma. That's why you dont do that shit it will just bite you in the ass. I'm glad Kawhi left he didnt deserve that kind of treatment.
In my opinion, yes Zaza is a dirty player sometimes but this play looks like an accident and not intentional, he was contesting a shot. A dirty play from Zara was when he was on the Bucks and he grabbed butler and pulled him down in the 14-15 playoffs, just my opinion but I think this play was an accident
zaza head pointing to the ring because that was planned already,,so that people would believe that was unintentional but that was planned already to injure leonard.....
The question wasn't "who is the dirtiest player of all time?" it was "Who is the dirtiest player in the NBA?" The question implies that he is referring to the present NBA not All-Time. He should word the question/prompt better
Zaza wanted to do that. He saw Kawhi spraining his ankle 1 minute before at the Spurs bench. Kawhi also sprained his ankle vs Houston. He really wanted to break his ankle.
These kind of plays do tarnish the elegant art of basketball. Playing rough is one thing; playing disloyal, plainly dirty, is some else entirely, and should be thoroughly discouraged.
kawhi was doing the leg drift technique in shooting meaning he should land properly almost w/o injury even with landing on one foot also leg drift is used for partial separation thats why it is sometimes associated with fade away by coaches so theres no reason for a possibility of contact unless its a dirty play
Well old man popovich has obviously lost his memory. Bruce Bowen, whom played for the old man, was just as dirty as Zaza Pachulia. This and many other situations is why old man popovich is considered one of the biggest hypocrites around!

Even if he is not the dirtiest doesn't make him any less dirty. Nor does it make Kawhi ankles any less injured. What Zaza did warrants a suspension.
As long as Lamarcus and Simmons are suspended too, I'm cool with that.
What??? L ^
Uncle Fkr You realize lamarcus and simmons did almost the exact same thing a few minutes after kawhi was injured right
Lamarcus did it again tonight to KD, so I guess he should be suspended for 2 games according to you.
Kawhi wasn't injured because of that 1 play. Hes been injured since the rockets series and was clearly not moving at his best in game one as well.

Zaza is one of the reasons the GSW has a notorious reputation among the Chinese fans, calling them Golden State Wushu(kongfu) team.
He knew what he was doing. That shit just won the series for the Warriors
Who's here after the Russ thing?
lol nice vid coach Nick, when I saw this stuff with Pachulia and Leonard I immediately thought of Bruce "Lee" Bowen.
ANYONE HERE AFTER ZAZA LANDING ON RUSS'S LEG
Coach Nick once again with another solid music choice relevant to the subject in the video. Been solid since the Myles Turner video.
Haha 0:25 LMFAO!!! Funniest shit I’ve seen in awhile.
Man I love to watch your videos
ZAZA should be a street fighter
Bruce Bowen's Ankle vs. Vince Carter's Ankle.
*Who wins?*
0:25 got me dead Lmao!!!!
I'm a Spurs fan so obviously biased, but just three small comments:
1) I'm not sure going to the fouls from the 90's and especially 80's is very useful for this debate.
God of Destroyer his name is Zaza
Loved the editing Coach!
He did it again.
Zaza knows exactly what he's doing
Who is here because of Westbrook
nba fans aren’t ready to talk about Bruce Bowen (coached by Pop) who would famously step under jump shots and injury players, especially against Kobe and Vince 🤷♂️
GSW have no answer for Kawai this time,, 🤣🤣🤣
What a great video!
thanks Coach
is water wet coach?
melokid99 it's not actually. What's wet is the surface or object caused by water which therefore makes it wet.
melokid99 so you're telling me a body of water suspended in air isn't in fact wet?....
roberto dimas This is the correct scientific explanation.
ItsBigPanda i think both are right.
if a body is wet when its got water somehow inside then water itself is wet.
What are you gonna do about it?"
I suppose In his defense for that game in particular, that was a very dirty game. A lot of name calling, fights and fouls. Fun as hell to watch, though.
In the PBA coach nick, intended or not if your foot is going to disrupt the landing of a jump shooter, it is a flagrant foul, regardless.
Hey old man, have you forgotten about Bruce Bowen?
Bowen did not make whole additional Pair of Steps beneath the Shooter, as was the Case with Kawhi....that's not a small Difference.
Hey old man did you watch the video
Coach is a warriors fanboy
nope his stating the facts homie
didn't notice it at first, but look how much Zaza extends his leg before the 2 steps after. like he thought Kawhi was gonna land there, then shuffles his feet after noticing Kawhi faded away
Seriously, people are bring Bowen into this? That was over a decade ago and since then the rules have changed. It wasn't enforced so lots of players did it. Just ask Jalen Rose.
www.espn.com/video/clip?id=13907598
Don't be a idiot, Nick.
Holy shit best intro ever
In my opinion, yes Zaza is a dirty player sometimes but this play looks like an accident and not intentional, he was contesting a shot. A dirty play from Zara was when he was on the Bucks and he grabbed butler and pulled him down in the 14-15 playoffs, just my opinion but I think this play was an accident
Inthought I would hear better from you,
you just sounded like every other wagon fan
May be hypocritical of Pop, but it's super unfair to Kawai
Awesome vid coach!!!
the music lmao
Coach can you upload this also on facebook so it can be shared easily? Thanks!
zaza head pointing to the ring because that was planned already,,so that people would believe that was unintentional but that was planned already to injure leonard.....
"I mean his face even looks like a boxer" I always hear that in 2k16 when Zaza is in the court.
Really well done video.
These kind of plays do tarnish the elegant art of basketball. Playing rough is one thing; playing disloyal, plainly dirty, is some else entirely, and should be thoroughly discouraged.
kawhi was doing the leg drift technique in shooting meaning he should land properly almost w/o injury even with landing on one foot also leg drift is used for partial separation thats why it is sometimes associated with fade away by coaches so theres no reason for a possibility of contact unless its a dirty play
right but clearly he meant currently in the NBA. one question totally ignored is if Kerr sent him out to do that... or whoever was coaching
Good reasoning.
Pops out here looking like he bout to duel Anakin after the interview.
Well old man popovich has obviously lost his memory. Bruce Bowen, whom played for the old man, was just as dirty as Zaza Pachulia. This and many other situations is why old man popovich is considered one of the biggest hypocrites around!
