"The minute we realize we're gay, it's a flaw." The truth of that statement shook me to my core, because it's true . . . and it shouldn't be true. To realize something about yourself that goes to the core of who you are as a human being, as a beloved child of God, should be a moment to rejoice. That is, perhaps, the thing I resent the most about the world's view of us. That you could finally come to know a part of yourself that is so pure and true and good, and to have the world try to teach you that that thing is a flaw and a thing to be ashamed of. That is so wrong. "But people . . . when they look at you they think, I can be gay and do anything." Gus, YOU are such a GIFT!

Gus, my partner and I have been together for 25 years. We have marched in the street, met with politicians who despised us, had phone calls at midnight threatening to kill us and our 2 kids, written letters to the editor of our local paper and fought all our lives. And I am proud to say, you are the next torchbearer. You are the reason we did what we did. And I could not be more proud of you. Stay strong, never give up. You are loved.
This was beautiful and beautifully done. You are a treasure to all and I hope that we will still see you competing at World and X-Games etc. I soar through the air with you and it feels magical. Thank you. And thank you Samsung for this fabulous gift.
GusKey, I dont know your plans after Olympics, but know so many people love ya, and think you're awesome. One of my biggest dreams is to meet Gus and tell him face to face how much he inspires me and how much I love him. When I was doubting myself and ashamed of who I was, I saw Gus and realized that I'm am strong and I'm not doing anything wrong by being gay. And I wanna thank him for that.

When I was a kid there were no openly gay athletes, maybe it was part of reason I didn't see myself going pro in my sport, I'm so happy kids today have people like you to look up to!

As something of a specialist on the power of the emotional brain for influence and persuasion in branding and marketing, I know how challenging it is to hit all the right notes and really connect in an authentic way. Major props to Samsung for this masterpiece. They know - they even called it "Letters of Influence." And what I love in particular about that title is that the influence is a loop, a virtuous cycle between Kenworthy (jeez, he's even got the word "worthy" in his name fercryinoutloud) and his friends and fans and family. Beautiful work all around.

I’m not crying, you’re crying. Immeasurably important-all that you’re doing. It was wrenching when I came out now almost 30years ago. Insane I had to wait until I was in my 50s to marry. No one should ever again have to hide like we did.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful mother encouraging you for every leap and bound you have made and continue to make! My youngest son is gay and still in H.S. It's so hard for me to stand by and let him fight his own battles, but now I understand a little better. I was tickled beyond belief to show him the commercial of you w/that beautiful flag. I watched him see it for the first time and my tears welled up w/so much pride not just as a momma, but as a human being! You are a terrific young man and I just applaud you and your MANY accomplishments.
