      They're insane, thanks for showing them to us! Never heard of them before but damn I've been missing out. Decided to check them out already cuz I saw this premiere preview but didn't wanna wait since it seemed like it might just be my thing. Listened to a few songs and I can safely say, it's just so peak.
      One tiny thing that I noticed, at least in the songs that I checked out (also only via phone speakers, will give them a proper listen later as well of course), was that at times the "normal" (non-scream) vocals felt kind of... drowned out? by the instrumental part. Not sure how to best describe it.
      Nevertheless once again, they're absolutely amazing and while it's not quite the same as Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, they still manage to scratch that same itch and you can never have enough music that does so. Looking forward to the react later today!

      @@DrumRollTonyReactsIn fact, Kawaii Metal is also called Idol Metal and Jpop Metal. This originated in 2010 thanks to the group BABYMETAL. It's very strange to call it Idol Metal now because bands like BABYMETAL have consolidated it as Kawaii Metal and it's already strange to call it with another term 😅

    I'm so glad I could introduce them to you and your audience. This is my favourite band. Above bands such as Muse, XJapan, Guns&Roses... I literally listen to them every day and I did so since the first time I've heard them. I love plenty of musical genres. Jazz, classical, rock just to name a few but pop is one I've never liked. The way they mix it together though, that grabbed me and it never let go. Thank you so much for this video. It's so nice when it's an actual musician doing it. Even better when it's also a teacher. Thank you so much for giving them more exposure. They need it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!

      Those low harshes sound extremely fake/produced (pitch-shifted) to me, I am sure she can produce good sounding harsh vocals but these are not the natural sound that come out of her mouth. That's not to say I don't understand why people love them, but as someone who generally loves harsh vocals these are not for me. They almost make me laugh.
      To be honest, the overproduction on the whole track (especially their idol side) makes it borderline unlistenable for me and the drums in the fast parts sound very fake as well, but that's not meant as a slight against Broken By The Scream nor their fans. I know there are plenty of people who love this, so who am I to tell them they are wrong. People love different things and that's what makes music so fun imo.
      I enjoyed the mathy/proggy parts of the track somewhat, but overall it's just not for me and that's ok. I am glad I gave the video a shot, I meant to check them out again for a while so this was the perfect opportunity.

    • @FanDethklok
      @FanDethklok 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MaartenT That's all fair. Her live screams are extremely good, but modern metal has definitely gone the over processed route.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FanDethklok That's certainly true, it's mainly the influence of metalcore/deathcore I think. I had been listening to all kinds of metal for 20 years or so before getting into the Japanse rock/metal scene a couple of years ago. Watching reactions also made me listen to music in a different way and made me more critical or maybe just notice specific things more and when I went back to a couple of the black metal bands I used to listen to years ago, I noticed that it sounded more processed than I remembered (not talking about the very raw sounding black metal though), mainly on vocals and drums.
      So yes, I agree. But it's on the extreme end here, probably because of the idol influence, I would compare it to Babymetal in that sense (productionwise for the studio sound) and maybe even something like PassCode (I really can not stand their sound though). Again, nothing wrong with that and if they are able to produce something similar to this live without faking it on stage vocalwise, then I have no issues with that. I have also become more lenient to groups dancing on stage live as far as vocals go as long as long as it's not them miming along the backing track (thank Atarashii Gakko for that I guess). I generally prefer Japanese bands' live sound over the studio sound anyway because most of them tend to overproduce the studio albums (for my taste) to some extent.

    Suggestions at the bottom of this comment.
    Other bands that are kinda similar, there is no one quite like BBTS, but Passcode are in a similar area. You could try Passcode They are more an electronicore kinda thing but again metal idols.
    If you want something that's even more of a "huh???" from the Japanese idol scene it's hard to top Ladybaby.
    If you want a hardcore, quote dark, intense Japanese idol metal song you could try Kosame.
    Then for Japanese, but not idols, Maximum The Hormone. I think you possibly did some anime themes they might have done and quite likely know them already, though not sure.
    Oh sh**, you don't have Hanabie on the channel yet?! Hanabie certainly.
    Also side note, Tamu, Nemophila's drummer, was inspired to learn largely due to the drummer from Maximum the Hormone as I understand it. Band-Maid's drummer also cited her as inspiration to learn. And Hanabie listed above started as a cover band of Maximum the Hormone.
    ------
    Passcode - Taking You out MV
    Ladybaby - Nippon Manju MV
    Kosame - Cord MV
    Maximum The Hormone - マキシマム ザ ホルモン 『maximum the hormone Ⅱ~これからの麺カタコッテリの話をしよう~』 Music Video

    BBTS, one of my top 3 bands generally. And EASILY my favourite band to see reactions to. Hilarity ensues almost every single time. They are just the perfect mix, really fun to listen to, and highly entertaining.
    The absolute best reactions are the ones where someone has not only not heard of BBTS, but has not even found the Japanese women metal rabbit hole yet. In those situations the reactors seem in genuine shock.

Casiopea is Jazz-Fusion band, they were very popular in the '80 and '90 in Japan but mostly never known in the America or Europe

    They'er okay, but I prefer Hanabie. Just a personal preference, largely because when it comes to prog or "math metal" instrumentation, I am very picky and usually not a fan of it.

      What are the differences in instrumentation in comparison

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DrumRollTonyReacts Hanabie are less complex than at least this track. I don't know Broken By The Scream that well, so I can't compare them over other songs. I didn't dislike this track as I enjoy the more progressive parts, but it's a bit too Idol and produced for me personally.
      Hanabie play a mix of metalcore, pop-punk and j-pop with both clean and harsh vocals, they are using a bit more electronic sounds nowadays too (a lot of backing tracks). Some of their tracks go pretty poppy while others are pretty heavy. They also play their own instruments compared to BBTS so they are a band instead of a group. The vocals are not as extremely pitch-shifted as with the low growling girl in this group.
      I would say Broken By The Scream is alt idol/kawaii metal/idol metal (whatever you want to call them), while Hanabie is still by it's core a metalcore band (who started out as a cover band of Maximum The Hormone). They are not really as comparable as a lot of people like to think, just because both bands have harsh vocals.

      BBTS's guitarist is the composer and producer of the group. There's no group without the band.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@darkangelceresita2768 So it's very similar to Babymetal in that sense then from a production standpoint, Is the band considered under the BBTS name or is it just the girls? While it is not really for me, I have no issue with that. I know people love their music and every Japanese band or group that is doing well in the West is a win for all the other Japanese musicians as well, so I will always be rooting for Japanese artists getting more known in the West even if they play music that is not for me.

    • @darkangelceresita2768
      @darkangelceresita2768 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MaartenT The band itself (the instrumentalists) are their own thing. Basically, they work with rather small groups so to make money, they work with many groups instead of one. Then, they use what they earn to do their own things. That guitar player, BBTS is only one of the things he does. So, whoever they play for is front and center. That's why they wear masks. They intentionally take a back seat when they perform. So, yah, even though they are their dedicated band and he (electrosonar) is their guitarist, composer and producer, the group is the girls. It also makes it more convenient. They can go perform abroad and the band doesn't necessarily needs to go. It's the girls people want to see perform. They're the stars of the show. It also means they can easily replace any member of the band if they are busy with something else.

    It's just nu-metal. Crap like Slipknot etc. was not substantially different: take elements of "extreme" metal and put them into a pop song... the last time anything metal-related was interesting was Norwegian black metal...
