Truly amazing. I didn't even like rock (much) until I heard Band-Maid. I feel like the last 60 years, rock was in Beta-testing and this is the actual rollout. Epic.

My dad was going thru chemo and I'd been holding his weak hands almost all day and night. I had gone home to take a shower and told him I would be right back and that he could beat it. That was the last time I saw him. I rushed back to the hospital and this song played while I was driving. It was already an emotional song and I'm a grown man but every time that chorus comes in with Saiki's voice, I break down hard. Miss you Pa!

@@riloh58 cassette tape , 8 track or reel to reel ? had all of them at one time or another. one thing that pissed me off was the first two would get chewed up and spit out by your player. lp's and cd's is where it's at for longevity.

That guitar riff in the verses is so pretty....
When I hear Saiki’s voice I feel amazing tone. It’s like mixing Pat Benatar, Amy Lee and Sade. Saiki is incredibly gorgeous. Please come to NYC….whole band is top echelon for me. Everyone has massive talent in this group….the guitar solo is too much emotion for me, there is something Kanami wants us to hear. Just beautiful, just beautiful.
Akane…What a dramatic drummer she is. She has a skill that impresses people. Each beating snare and symbal, also kicking bass makes me move.

昨年10月にBAND-MAIDにたどり着いてこの一年、全てのCDとNET動画を見まくりスマホに入れて聞きまくって、次々と紡ぎ出され演奏される曲に外れがないことに驚嘆しつつ、数少ないバラードの中で「Daydreaming」はやはり屈指の名曲だと改めて感じます。
パワフルでスピーディで過激な演奏に最初は圧倒されますが、その世界にどっぷり漬かって見るとBAND-MAIDの音楽の全てには、j-popというより日本の歌謡曲の伝統とも言うべき哀切なメロディーと歌詞の融合が醸し出すエモーショナルな通底音が流れていると思い始めています。この「Daydreaming」と「puzzle」はそれがストレートに出ているバラードの傑作でしょう。「哀愁のヨーロッパ」のサンタナをリスペクトするKANAMIの作曲とMIKUの痛切な歌詞、そして誤解を恐れずに言えば演歌歌手の情感たっぷりの歌唱法にも通じるSAIKIの官能的な声が作り出す嫋々たる世界。
「Daydreaming」はほぼ全てのライブで激しい演奏の中間に箸休めのようにミドルテンポのバラードとして演奏されていますが、SAIKIのボーカルでいきなり始まるこのMVよりも、長いイントロから入る数々のLIVEヴァージョン、なかでも深い夜霧のような舞台演出から静かに流れるKANAMIのピアノソロのイントロで始まる2018ZEPPTOKYOでのLIVEバージョンの方が哀愁に満ちたこの曲にふさわしいでしょう。
もう一つ、あまり言及されることはないようですが、MIKUが紡ぎ出す哀切な歌詞がメロディーと融合して特別な世界を作り上げていることを忘れることはできません。
感情や思いを直接表現する日本語歌詞部分と心の動きを映像として投影した映画のシーンのような情景を描く部分が交互に繰り返され、曲調にあった世界が出現します。
募っていく恋心をそのまま言葉にする感情の部分
「覚めないで 掠れた声で 今夜だけは そばにいてよ
消えないで 離れないで 今夜だけは そばにいてよ
それでも加速してく思い もっと感じたい 」
甘く切ない二人の関係を投影した情景の部分
「月明かりに揺れ動いた 交わる二人の影

そして、絶妙のタイミングで挿入される英語歌詞が日本語歌詞の世界を補強しています。
でも、この曲の郷愁と憂愁に満ちた世界は「Daydreaming」のタイトルが示すように、現実にあった世界でなく、白日夢、甘い空想の世界かもしれないというMIKUの覚めた批評が根底にあるようにも思われます。
ファンなら知ってるように、BAND-MAIDの曲は全てメロディ先行で歌詞は曲調に合わせた世界をMIKUが感じて考えて調べて、MIKU個人の感情や思いを入れずに小説や絵画のように構成され創作されています。それは短歌のような言葉数に制限のある日本の定型詩のように不自由なスタイルですが、MIKUはその方が作りやすいと言っています。その中で英語歌詞はメロディと歌詞の過不足を調整するように挿入されているのかもしれないという気もします。
切ないほどの強い思いを直接言葉にするのでなく、映画のように感情をビジュアル化して表現するというスタイルは名曲「puzzle」ですでに試みられています。恋の予感を「puzzleピースがはまる音がした」と言い、破局の予感を「崩れてくpuzzle」という視覚的表現で歌っていることには舌を巻きました。
「Daydreaming」の作詞にはSAIKIが加わっているようですが、どの部分がそれなのか、興味津々ですね。多分、ストレートな感情表現の部分だと思いますが、それだけSAIKIにもこの曲への思い入れが強かったと言うことでしょうか。
それにしても「Daydreaming」も「puzzle」も、海外のファンからのおびただしいReaction動画がアップされていて、5人のメンバーの才能が融合する絶妙なアンサンブルで演奏される、これらの曲のエモーショナルでエロティックとさえ言える魅惑的な世界に心がつかまれていることが察しられます。ただ残念なことは、楽曲と演奏の魅力に加えて、海外のファンにも日本語歌詞の素晴らしさをその語感を含めて味わえたならBAND-MAIDの音楽の全体がさらに理解されることだろう、と言う思いが残ることです。（2023.10.4）
I always find it interesting how Kanami considers this one of her most difficult compositions. On first listen, it seems simple. But once you start listening to the layers, the complexity is there.

This is a great example of a perfect song where nothing should be added or altered in any way. Every note, every word, every beat; perfectly placed and meticulously layered with the task to carry overwhelming emotion and feelings through sound. This is what music was always meant to be; an auditory experience that touches your very soul even through language barriers and world borders. True art.
It's too bad that a lot of people will never hear this masterpiece because it's from a "weeb" band that makes "girly" music. It's too bad that a lot of people are also wrong and ignorant.

The guitar... how that sliding scratch tone grabs you by the collar with how it comes in, and with the light fuzzy longing tone that keeps driving through your heart, you can feel how Kanami is trying to reach into to you deeply, very deeply... then you find you're alone, but again, not alone... there's this resonating longing tone still echoing in your heart and mind... and suddenly realize that this entire song is just that... well, it might be just me, but every time I listen to this song, I feel the longing...

taking a break from listening to the Unseen World album to listen to this classic a few times. i still know all the words despite not speaking the language at all. lol
I have to calm down from time to time. So I had collected one hour of their songs played only acustic and 90 minutes with piano covers. It feels so good to sit in front of the fireplace and listen to calm BAND-MAID music, especially when the snow has fallen, that is very rare here in nothern Germany.
I want Unseen world so bad but $60. Damn. The other 4 CDs I purchased from Amazon were $80 and one was a single "thrill" I think. I think changing labels wasn't such a good thing.

BAND-MAIDを知るきっかけになった曲のうちの一曲だけど、初めて聴いた時にまず彩姫ちゃんのパワフルな声と、くるっぽー(小鳩ミク)のハモリがとにかく心をぐわっと掴んできましたね。
AKANEのドラム、ほんとどこからそんなダイナミックな音量出るねんっていつも思うし、MISAさんはちょいちょいテクい奏法してるのに気づかせないようにスッと澄ました表情してる。かなみんは推しです。ほんと大好き。見た目も中身も全部好き。メンバー全員好きなんだけど、かなみんは別格です。

Seriously, most of their music composition are great.
Every one of these young ladies are mistresses of what they play. Their artistry is second to none. As some one who was raised to only classical music, their playing is a joy to behold and is absolutely mesmerising.
