    I think what I enjoy the most about this channel is that Stephanie is not only entertaining but educating us as well! I really enjoy all aspects of this channel ~ her mother, her family,, Michael(s) the volunteers and her traveling about the world! I think I finally realize why her subscribers are so low (compared to Michael ~ DYI Chateau ~ ) but once he mentioned her last Friday in his video .... Stephanie's channel skyrocketed by 13,000! Still not as good as Michael's but I think she will catch on ~ or I hope so. You have to admire a young lady taking on such a massive project with such positivity ! I know I do! Keep up the great videos! Thank you!

      “Still not as good as Michaels’s but I think she will catch on ~ or at least I hope so.”
      Ouch! Not sure why I’m taking umbrage with this comment but I have. I believe the reality is TH-cam picked up on the trending of Micheal’s first video and suggested it to people who had never heard of anything Chateau. His video had been lobed into play by the foundation of Chateau Diaries Subscribers that Stephanie spent nearly two years building. If you look at the view count of his first video it’s something like 800,000, but all the viewers haven’t returned to watch the following videos. He was trending. They are both massive talents.
      The TH-cam math or income is a whole different world with different variables. You can have 1,000,000 subscribers and still not make as much as someone who has only 1000.
      March 22 Stephanie only had 14,100 subscribers and only 173 of which signed up to be Patron’s. That’s only 1.23% of her loving followers supporting her, it boggles my mind that people don’t see this a modern day at the movies and commit, pay it forward. Be part of the story.

    Mummy is exactly right: during medieval times there were community ovens that town folk would use for a slight cost.

    • @kjwhitty8820
      @kjwhitty8820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I understand community ovens were
      the basis for the Pat-a-cake rhyme. Bread bakers marked their bread with a letter or symbol so they could identify their baked bread from others.

      Hanneke Teunissen and in German villages (Dorfer), though people buy bread from bakeries and shops now because they’ve worked away from home for so long now (one thing that might change somewhat, and though the community bread oven might not ever make a comeback, I believe a pizza oven could)!

    I think if you organized a group of masons and historians to come and spend a night to look at what you have and what the historians could dig up for you.... you would have an incredible evening of ideas. Then organize a few masons and workers to spend a "pitch a tent and get fed" type weekend to start and work the mill reclaiming process or to come enjoy the land and give ideas on how to bring back your magnificent property would be worth exploring. Maybe have them come and spend some time then provide drawings and ideas of what could be and what can be done to give you a property that will pay the bills for the rest of your life. You have a gold mine you are sitting on.

  • @karinbergman1646
    @karinbergman1646 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Bonjour Stephanie, I'm pausing halfway through your video to write notes. There are two things you must do. First, look at old maps in the local libraries/archives to see where on your property there may have been structures. You might also consult old tax records to see what taxes were placed on what properties. Secondly, you must have a drone do overhead photography of all your property especially in winter when there is no snow and no vegetation growing, so you can see from overhead any patterns in your lands revealing evidence of structures. You should also look at Google Earth satellite maps of your properties to check same. Perhaps the 2 towers were remnants/ruins from the medieval castle!!!
    After viewing the entire vlog, I must say that this is my very favorite video with all the exploration of the mill ruins! I wonder where the water wheel was/is, and especially where the flour grinding wheels are? I bet the stone wheels are yet in the brush on the floor of your mill! It would be so exciting to see things as they were, with the lake filled and the sluiceway running the water wheel, turning the stone grinding wheels. And your mama is correct! The people would have brought their wheat etc. to the mill for grinding. They would have given a portion to the Lord of LaLande. And the oven would have been available to the people of the area for baking their breads. How amazingly exciting. I really think you could get a University to do a complete vegetation clearing (not the vines on the structure--they are beautiful but are likely holding everything together), mapping, and excavation. They could find the wheels, gears all kinds of things! I participated in a large scale archaeological survey of portions of Indiana, involving the Wabash and Erie Canal. We found several ruins of old Mills along the creeks in the area. It's really so magical in a way. What did Isabelle call the path? Enchanted? What a perfect description of the entire experience--enchanted indeed!
    I meant to add you could check into Time Team doing a survey and reconnaisance/ excavation for you, if they are still doing archaeology. They usually do a tremendous amount of work in 3 days.
    One last addition. Document, document, document! Archaeology is a completely destructive discipline. So please record everything. Photo document and journal document everything.

    Hey. About the wines on walls - quite common techniqe is to cut the branches right at the ground lvl, so it would stop growing of the plants. Then the leaves and small branched will die naturally and all the big branches will leave as they are. This techniqe is used to save trees that are covered by wines - sometimes the tree wont be able to stand alone because it is too weak under the wines but also it is unsafe to leave the wines to grow because they are heavy and the tree could fall - so then u cut the wine at the ground and it stays as an exoskeleton for the tree. Good luck!

You can get good at being a detective and recognising old trackways through the woods or old fallen down buildings. I love the mill and the stream.

    I just love every second. I love everyone equally, I wish they could all stay permanently living at the Chateau. Can’t wait for Percy, The Scotsman, and Michael x 2 to back too! Please don’t leave Selma or Nick, Marie and Antone. Lucky Antone, what a childhood he is living. Please vlog more, just sitting around having afternoon tea is so entertaining, anything. Sending thanks and hugs from Australia. 🤗

    Stephanie, I am so excited that my daughter and I have found your channel on TH-cam during lockdown. We’re obsessed with all of your episodes. We adore your family, Mummy, Percy and Gerald. They’re just a scream to watch and love all of you. You’re a dream to watch and have enjoyed your stories. We especially love your talent of designing on a dime and you share where and how you find these marvelous treasures to decorate your chateau. You have done an extraordinary job and should be very proud. You have a beautiful voice and are quite stunning and we love your style of clothing. We have almost watched all of your episodes and we’re getting a little worried. I’m sure I’ll just start watching them again.
    Your two Michaels are fabulously talented as well. I know you treasure them both. We’re hoping you will marry one of them. I know Michael Potts were once your boyfriend. The other handsome Michael fits you perfectly with all of your interest and talents. Two peas i
    n a pod. You two have a ball together. Just maybe, we’ll we’re hoping anyway. Haha.
    I found Michael’s vlog first and subscribed to his channel. That is the way I found your channel which has been a treasure trove of episodes. I love everything how you have educated us on your many trips and discoveries around your chateau. You are unbelievably talented and your boundless energy. Please keep them coming dear sweet lady. I am sure many more people will find you as well. Stay safe and well. Love to all....Marty Smith in N.C.

    The mill is wonderful, and I think it's a great idea to preserve the old ivy (trunks?!). So many people overly "restore" things like that and erase the visual history that makes such ruins intriguing to begin with. Aside from all the work and money involved....what fun! And archaeologists would have a field day, so to speak, on that property.

    Dear Stephanie, there are SO many aspects in all your video’s that I can relate to in so many ways... growing up at a farm, visiting my aunt and uncle’s estate, the oldest part of their home was build in the 1400’s.
    Nature, wondering around, the sounds, the moss, upholstering things, using what you have, even collecting crowns... 😁
    Thank you so much. ❤️

    this mill would make a lovely artists retreat, lots of work to clear the trees and vegetation but would absolutely be worth doing. The bread oven restored would also heat the place come winter. Restoring the fishing pond to a natural pond would also be lovely as the foundation is already there as well as water supply. Good video
