    This was done four years ago and here I am letting my TH-cam algorithm throw up château diary episodes at will. And this one is one of my very favorites. There's so much wisdom and so much humanity in this. Aside from a tumultuous childhood on a family of four, I have never lived with more than one other person at a time! It's just how my life has worked out. But life in the Southern California suburban neighborhood is so different than the château life of which I dream. You have made and continue to make the most extraordinary life! You are so blessed.

    Isabelle has a ton of wisdom. She has worked so hard all her life as a nurse, I'm sure she has seen all types of people and learned to interact with them accordingly. She and Stephanie (two lovely ladies) always show their appreciation for the volunteers.

    Love is patient,love is kind.It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts,always hopes,always perseveres. Love never fails. Love how you keep it real Stephanie! 👩‍🌾🥰👍🏻

    Stephanie I think you underestimate the affect you have on the people in your chateau. You show so much respect to each individual and treat them as if they're the most important person in the world to you at that moment. I'm sure that rubs off on everyone and you lead by example. I love watching your vlog bc it makes me feel good knowing there's people like and y'all out there in the world

    I find myself smiling throughout this whole vlog. Such a sensitive subject turns into giggles and a deluge of delightful and wise moments. For those like me who live alone, I'm sure I write for many of how much fun it is to be part of the LaLande family. I have my own family but distance and circumstance limits our visits and physical closeness. Love and hugs to all.

You encourage growth in your friends. You build their confidence by always thanking them for their efforts and telling them what a great job they have done. By letting them do what they like and are good at gives them the confidence to try new things with people they trust, respect .and like. Kudos!!

      🦋 Beautiful Mummy is also a bit of a perfectionist. Isabel is clearly used to maintaining a certain standard of life, and she gets a little frustrated when ppl aren't performing quite up to her high expectations💋. (Something I can relate to at times.) I adore her air of general calmness, her absolute graciousness, her industry, & even her artistic flairs of temper.
      🌱She is a wonder in the garden. 📲 I am thankful Stephanie is capturing some of her work there. I definitely need mentoring in that direction. Although I certainly don't aspire to her level of greatness😉.
      ~~~~~~~~~~
      I don't have a green thumb. I tend to over or under water💦 any potted plants. I end up lost in a book, daydreaming, or tempted to try some other activity that takes me away from them.
      Thankfully, we have a completely drought tolerant yard. I baby some of the succulents a bit when they need it in the extreme temps🌡. I appreciate almost any hardy native plant that manages to grow here -- except poison oak & sumac. Kinda afraid of the former one -- saw my brother & father swell up repeatedly with ugly rashes. The latter one doesn't bother my skin, but it is highly🔥flammable so I try to keep it cut back.
      🌸We have some beautiful flowers that return every Spring, but don't last long in the heat. I do yard trimming & maintenance through out the year for our annual Wildfire Brush Clearance.
      🌳Once I am out there, I enjoy clipping bushes & trees🍃. The majority of the soil is pretty tough, so pulling weeds is not always easy. I love our bits of shade & the flatter sections of the lot. We're on an acre that has different levels & steep canyon rises.🐐 Play at being a mountain goat, & as a result spend a lot of time sliding down the hills on my backside.
      🕶I go out in full protective gear to protect from sun, debris, insects, & snakes. Just at dusk the other day when temperatures rose to 109°F, I encountered a big hairy tarantula & a very long skinny🐍snake. 🦎Luckily, the lizards tend to dash away. Snakes can get lethargic in the heat, but can move amazingly fast when they are not over heated. They all blend in so well, so I always pray that I don't accidently kill anything while raking or something. 👀I was devastated when I accidently hit a lizard w/a weed wacker💧.
      ☀️Unfortunately, the coolest times of the day are when the blasted mosquitos are out. The darn things love my blood. Grew up traipsing around this territory w/o any mishaps, but now my skin & body seems far less hardy too all these various 🐜insect bites🕷.
      🚜 My dad grew up on a farm wrangling all kinds of livestock, but I am more of a squeamish city girl. I admire ppl that are confidant about being caretakers of animals, the land, and those who are serious homesteaders. 💪It's all such hard, but wholly satisfying work.
      ☮Peace 💛Love 🌼Beauty from SoCalifornia.
    My father always told me growing up walk in their shoes or look at it from there point of view. I'm from a family of 4 children. Grew up on a farm then when farming didnt work anymore we all moved 300 miles away (4 family's plus my parents so 5 families) we all work together at a family business. Now it's not all a bed of Rose's but I would say my dad was the negotiator when there was fall outs. But each one of us brings a different attribute and point of view to the job. I wouldn't change a thing. Even after my parents died we all made sure to discuss things with each other. No one was left out so their wouldn't be any hard feelings. People say we're not real. I say I'm very blessed.
    This is my favorite video so far. Your mother has the wisest words about what it means to live in real community. I do believe this is exactly how humans are supposed to live -- not alone. Not in tiny twos or threes. But allowing everyone the freedom to do what they love, and to do what they do best -- you, Stephanie, are the key to that. I think people living together, EATING together (as your brother says), working joyfully together in a beautiful place: this is truly what heaven will be like. I will never make it over to LaLande, but I'm so thankful to be able to share it via these videos :)
    Maybe laundry baskets with people's with people's names taped on them so if they come down with dirty laundry and is not there when it finished it can be put in their basket. A pad by each machine they right their name on it when their laundry is in that machine. Laundry hampers for Lalandes laundry in the laundry room marked dirty sheets, dirty towels for example. Mark an area TO BE IRONED with maybe a rack to hang clean sheets so they dont get wrinkled more waiting be ironed.
    Emotional Intelligence is a highly underrated glue to hold society together. Tolerance and understanding are becoming rarer in this Third Wave of Toffler. Hardly surprising given the modern communication tools. It would be a very different tale were you all walking around.using social media instead of face to face. As Isabelle says, spark off each other and find common ground. Good stuff. Blessings.
      Having emotional intelligence isn’t as important as teaching ways of increasing awareness of empathy and expectations re direct and respectful communication and so-called active listening. Look at what a very public POTUS has created by failing to demonstrate empathy and fairness to all US citizens.
Team Lalande, and Mummy truly touched on the essential elements to make things go smoothly. There will be bumps, but it is necessary to keep in mind personal perspectives, personal ideals, an open heart and mind and be willing to consider feelings.     Ive mentioned before on here, the book Lost Connections by Johann Hari talks about this very thing, connecting to others and how it's been lost - leading to people being isolated and marginalised. They turn to drug use and alcohol to overcome their feelings of being lost. Different generations have differing values (Isobel with dryers being used when the sun is shining) - I have a thing about lights being on when no-one is in a room! It' does require work to meld the differing values, patience and kindness. This was a good thought provoking vlog. Thankyou.
      Oh, I MUST read!! With social media (and worse still, with required social distancing), we no longer connect like we did when I was growing up. My parents and neighbors congregated almost never ghtky, had block parties and we children would knock on a child's door we seen but never met and ask them to come out and play. I don't see that happening these days. My daughter said she envies my childhood and young adult life - it WAS fun.
      📚 Sounds like an interesting book. I grew up close to both sets of grandparents and my two uncles. One of those uncles was 10 years older than brother & 10 years younger than my mother. He sorta grew up with us. The closeness was a lovely experience.
      Yes, you do learn new things from different generations. I find it fascinating to see the differing facets and to learn what brought ppl to their conclusions
      Also can discover a lot from ppl from differing backgrounds & cultures. Sometimes it is tricky to identify your own sense of culture until you clash with someone else. Conflict can sometimes help distinguish things. The trick is to remember that all cultures have equally valid ideas, perspectives, & experiences. Some of us need to be pushed out of our comfort zones to experience it.
      Any generational or cultural gaps can be met & closed with patience, compassion, understanding, & humor.
      ☮💛🌼
It’s a special experience when you can be part of a high performing team. It is not easy to achieve one. Any team needs a leader.     I read a lot of the comments and I do agree with most of them. I would like to add this : I think that the people that are coming to the Chateau they know what is coming their way, that they will meet with a bunch of people so, that being said, dont people try and show up their better personality, their better side when meeting new people ? They all know that they will be on camera - again another reason to act nicely. That is good that they all try and show their best side and act nicely, because that way they create bounds, they find they are helping, they keep the happy mood, etc. all in all I think it is a fabulous experience and at the end, if there is any little conflict, there is also a great amount of love, respect, and it is a recipe for success !
    I love listening to Gerry for he encapsulated all the benefits of people gaining from life’s experiences from other people, what shows enormously is the sharing of kindness and consideration plus respect for one another, the wisdom of Isabella but with her humour, it would drive me nuts also a dryer on for laundry when the sun was shining, the kettle was hilarious.
    My favourite biggie in the restaurant trade was staff had a hot water tap on with water going down the plug hole FOR no reason !!! waste.
    Marie looking better and beautiful , cooking with everyone around chatting , that is difficult ! Natalie is just a calming influence .
    Stephanie is absolutely amazing and an example of love, respect , talent , kindness , trust and giving, when people visit and leave Lalande they will have been effected in a good way. This was a wonderful Vlog.
