Fasting Ritual and Resurrection are great. With Resurrection they come back at their current levels, so you can easily get followers over level 10 to help in dungeons, plus it takes care of your best deads bodies. The faith hit is less than your daily sermon, so its basically nothing. Fasting is really good if you want to go deep into the dungeons or forget to gather enough food. Just follow it up with a bonfire Ritual and your good to go. One prison was enough for me. The only decenters I ever had were from quests to take in a decenter. Barely an inconvenience; two days in gulag will fix them right up.
The alternative to the Feasting Ritual is the Fasting Ritual. It locks your flock's hunger at max for three days, much like how the mushrooms lock your faith at max for three days. But it is unpopular, so follow it up with the Sermon and individual blessings.

Id say a lot of the doctrines taken here can be better. First of, get Glory Through Toil instead of Holy Day since this increases productivity by a lot and better for end game while Holy day is only meant as a band aid to low faith. Next, get Alms for the Poor instead of Ritual of Enrichment. Money isnt hard to come by late game especially when you dont need devotion anymore. Your focus does shift to increasing loyalty later on. Get Ritual Fast instead of feast. Fast will hep you get through late game when going on longer crusades and access to better food late game will solve hunger. Feast is helpful early game only. For Ritualistic Fight Pit, I just think if you wanna get rid of someone just murder a follower at night or during a brainwash. And lastly, although Ascending does give quite the loyalty boost, you are not able to resurrect them. I guess its good for just removing unwanted followers with bad traits but I personally like a little population control and keeping the ones with good traits. Hope this helps and just a suggestion when considering doctrines. Dont want you to regret getting feast like I did!
Honestly none of them break the game and some of my choices were what my audience wanted. My choices did just fine for an extra hard run, but I appreciate the alternative ideas :)
@@ShuffleFM I prefer Ritual of Enrichment myself. It gives so much money that it greatly improves your building velocity. What the other poster said about Alms for the Poor is correct if you're thinking more about late game.
Ritual of enrichment is good if you're struggling, especially in the earlier game, and especially if you're starting within the Relics update. Because money is tough, and getting the gold bars for better shelters and toilets is very important. Also it fixes losing 99% of your money when Midas Muggs you.

Breeding should be a thing so you don't need to worry about recruiting new cult members, you could put a limitation to as how many children can be made per couple so you can make sure you have enough resources etc, that way older people dying won't be an issue!
@EveryArchive I consider myself a true fan of this game with 250 hours in it, actively speedrunning and trying to go flawless. Little features like this could improve the follower aspect in my opinion and it's not exactly a lesser agreed-on addition, plenty of people would like it. It has been 8 months though since my comment so I don't care for it as much but I personally like the idea of a family tree you can access.
The game is very unbalanced. I got everything almost maxed (like 75-80%) before I killed second boss. Most of the stuff is useless. There is no intricacy to base building and management. Traits are pointless, except the one that slows down devotion and production. Also the Ritual that gives you money gives ~400 for 12 people, which makes money abundant just like wood and stone. I feel like things were added to the game as separate ideas to "fill the space", but they are not forming a complete system. There are just best things and pointless things, there is no tactics or strategies regarding settlement management. Overall I feel like the game takes inspiration from many sources (Don't Starve, Stardew Valley, Binding of Isaac, Darkest Dungeon, Animal Crossing etc.), but it doesn't excel in anything, it is just mediocre and superficial. Good on paper, good theme and story chosen to unite it all, but in reality it is just okay. Not bad though. The fighting system is fun too, although the dash is a little bit too overpowered.
