New homes in Bay Area are $1,500,000-$1,700,000 + property taxes 1%-2% depending on the city + supplemental tax (parks, roads, city bonds, etc.) and no pool, lot size 3,000 - 6,000 sq. feet. For $650,000, you can just get old home built around 1970 year and under 2,000 sq. feet
