      It's basic math, sure, but I've always been amazed at Indian proficiency with mathematics. I've seen a video of random Indians on the street being asked to do calculations on the spot and felt so inadequate at my own skill afterwards.

    I would love to see them react to some old paintings, especially ones that depict how people lived in various countries even _before_ 1890. I'm thinking of Vermeer or Spitzweg here, for example, and I think Van Gogh and Rembrandt made some paintings in that direction, too. But a reaction to some portrait paintings of historic nobility would be interesting, too. Like that famous painting of Louis XIV (don't know who made it, though).
    Edit: Or - another idea - old cartoons! :D That old stuff from the 1910s, '20s, '30s - you know what I mean?

    • @daemonzap1481
      @daemonzap1481 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Feli Fanai Yes and during the 1800s Europeans would work 16 hours a day in dangerous factories and many killed due to a lack of safety rules but this video clearly doesnt show that. Just seeing people walking around shows something nice. You don't have to prescribe all the negative aspects of an era into a historical video for you to not appreciate it. Half of the comments in those videos are from indians talking about how fit people used to look before we had all these processed foods and how india had less pollution back then too. You are choosing to see only the negative quality and using it to justify the entire synopsis they would get from a historical video.
      Also, we don't have any videos of actual people before British Raj in India so it would just be like a documentary at that point but this channel focuses more on culture than history.

    Filming in those times was time consuming and rare and they focused on filming the more wealthy areas in the cities as well as certain celebrations or events. They usually didn't bother filming the working class unless a particular film maker was wanted to document the common mans life and living conditions. This was nearly 20 years before the first car that was available for the "masses" (those with money) arrived, the 1908 Ford Model-T. The first "modern" bicycle (early version of the bicycle of today) with same size wheels arrived around 1886 and was a hit. Today there are more than a billion bicycles in use around the world. Amazing invention. The steam train was invented in England and the first one was built in 1802. The first commercial train that transported passengers was built in 1825 and kept evolving to what we have today (levitation trains, bullet trains, cargo trains and so on). The first successful Tram system was built in San Francisco in 1873 and were pulled by pulling cables under the tram car. I wish we'd get a new era of wearing hats.
    The 19th century was the golden age of inventions, most of which we still use today in evolved and modernized forms. Unfortunately the industrial age also brought the fossil-fuelled technology that would lead to humans affecting/creating the current runaway global warming issues.
    Google translation to Hindi (no idea if it's even readable or makes sense):
    उस समय फिल्मांकन समय लेने वाला और दुर्लभ था और उन्होंने शहरों में अधिक समृद्ध क्षेत्रों के साथ-साथ कुछ समारोहों या कार्यक्रमों को फिल्माने पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया। वे आम तौर पर मजदूर वर्ग को फिल्माने की जहमत नहीं उठाते थे जब तक कि कोई विशेष फिल्म निर्माता आम आदमी के जीवन और रहने की स्थिति का दस्तावेजीकरण नहीं करना चाहता था। यह पहली कार जो "जनता" (पैसे वाले) के लिए उपलब्ध थी, 1908 फोर्ड मॉडल-टी आने से लगभग 20 साल पहले थी। समान आकार के पहियों वाली पहली "आधुनिक" साइकिल (आज की साइकिल का प्रारंभिक संस्करण) 1886 के आसपास आई और हिट रही। आज दुनिया भर में एक अरब से अधिक साइकिल उपयोग में हैं। अद्भुत आविष्कार। स्टीम ट्रेन का आविष्कार इंग्लैंड में किया गया था और पहली ट्रेन 1802 में बनाई गई थी। यात्रियों को ले जाने वाली पहली वाणिज्यिक ट्रेन 1825 में बनाई गई थी और आज हमारे पास विकसित हो रही है (लेवेशन ट्रेन, बुलेट ट्रेन, कार्गो ट्रेन आदि)। पहली सफल ट्राम प्रणाली 1873 में सैन फ्रांसिस्को में बनाई गई थी और ट्राम कार के नीचे केबल खींचकर खींची गई थी। काश हमें टोपी पहनने का एक नया युग मिलता।
    19वीं शताब्दी आविष्कारों का स्वर्ण युग थी, जिनमें से अधिकांश का उपयोग हम आज भी विकसित और आधुनिक रूपों में करते हैं। दुर्भाग्य से औद्योगिक युग ने जीवाश्म-ईंधन वाली तकनीक भी लाई, जो मनुष्यों को वर्तमान भगोड़ा ग्लोबल वार्मिंग मुद्दों को प्रभावित/बनाने के लिए प्रेरित करेगी।

    He's damn right about their clothes. Even working men--builders and miners and so on, wore what would be considered formal dress today. All the old standards have gone--with disastrous consequences in every aspect of our societies.

    I love this, I never saw a double Decker train! I think some of those videos were during parades and things like that. Interesting note that they noticed children wearing shoes! My dad was raised during the depression in USA, and shoes were always a big deal to him because he did not always have them when he was young, can you think about how horrible that was?, in Wisconsin USA with no shoes? My house was built in 1890 and so is cool to see how people dressed then.

Reminds me that it was also very common in my country a century ago to sing traditional songs and play instruments with the family and friends, but sadly we don't do that anymore... I'm glad that still in India they do it, or at least in some villages, and I hope that beautiful tradition never disappears ❤ as well as their beautiful traditional clothes

    The funny thing is that film recording was so expensive and new back then that only special events were recorded. Launching the best boat, parades with people in their finest clothes, the new Eiffel Tower, winter ice skating events, trains arriving. I think the most normal life thing was the steam powered fire truck pulled by horses which I think Sarru noticed. It was a vertical tank smoking or steaming. The steam built pressure to spray water from the tank on a building fire. It had big wooden wheels and the horses pulled it. In 1890 United States fire trucks like that were very important to put out frequent building fires. Gas lamps and gas stoves were fairly unreliable back then.
    Now fire trucks are actual trucks around the world, not just steam tanks pulled by horses. ;) Still, the Fire Department was important even then 131 years ago.
