- Incredible footage of the Ross Breakaway mother lioness and her newborn cub filmed this morning out on game drive - you don’t want to miss this! What started as an awesome sighting of the lionesses turned into an unbelievable encounter with this week-old lion cub after its demanding squeals were heard coming from the thicket. We shortly became the very fortunate observers of the intimate moments shared between mother and cub, as the lioness gently licked her little one and picked her up in her mouth to take her back into the safety of the bush. A very special and memorable sighting for us all. Now that we know where the cubs are hiding, the teams in the Klaserie have declared it a negative loc in order to give the cub some space to adjust to its brand new life in the wild. There was no sign of the other two cubs initially reported to have been seen.
UPDATE:
We've had a whirlwind 24 hours here in the Klaserie, with some good and bad news to report. Sadly, we arrived at a sighting with the two Ross Breakaway lionesses and discovered that the very young cub had died. The lionesses successfully hunted a buffalo, and in the commotion of stampeding animals, the cub unfortunately got in the way and lost its life in the way so many lion cubs do. Our guests have been exposed to the raw nature of the wild, first with the intimate sighting of the vulnerable cub and its mother, and then yesterday afternoon when we discovered the sad news. We are privileged to experience nature in all its forms.

The way those powerful jaws and long sharp fangs can give such a soft touch to the fluffy cub is bewildering 😳
After reading the description with the update I'm so sad. Rest in peace little baby 💜. You didn't live long but you were still greatly loved and cherished.

I’ve watched many documentaries on lions and their cubs but this is the first time I heard a squeal so loud from a cub so young. If it is a male cub, then he will the top roar......

Unfortunately this cub did not survive passed the second week of its life, but this is in fact a common occurrence in the wild where the cub mortality rate is as high as 50%. The lioness is alive and well and mating again with a pair of male lions from the Mapoza coalition.
Unfortunately that's part of nature bt she proved to be a good mum, she did all the right things, unfortunately sometimes nature has other ideas, the thumbnail was bit deceiving I see now the Lioness is in good condition, BT the thumbnail pic made her look underweight bt I'm glad the lioness is doing well as for her cub, R.I.P. in heaven little one

@james rabbit Likely undernourishment , and inexperienced mother. It's a young lioness with non-fully-developed body and her first cub. If the video title is correct, then she had no help from other lions and could be starving from inability to hunt. Life is pretty tough if a lion has no pride. Even young strong males had to band together to survive.

Such tender love by the lioness!! Very sad that the cub died in a buffalo stampede. The lioness looks a bit weak herself. Hope she nourished herself back to health and will soon have new noisy cubs. :-)
Sadly, I know because the update about Cub's death is given in the description of this video, and also in one of the comments below by SunDestinations.

Zuhair Khan Lions need to kill buffaloes for their survival and that's how nature works.. But the cub was died in an accident so that's sad..

I don't think it was hungry, it's still blind because she had just given birth to it. The cub's just a little restless, because it cannot see yet. I'm sure it's been drinking milk allday already.
The cubbie was very hungry...she was an inexperienced mom who didn't know what to do...poor baby....my heart broke...she just wanted milk and her mom should have licked her and helped her to her nipple
I absolutely agree. The cub had 2 other siblings who had just died. Looks like mum returned and this lil one was starving. Mum looks battle scarred.. Poor cub died later that day from a very unfortunate stampede. She'll get the hang of it, I believe in her..🌸
most cubs in the wild don't make it to the 1st birthday, I guess mortality rate near 90%

The baby was crying for its mommy's milk. Maybe the mom knew if she hadn't been eating she could not provide milk for the baby. Cub sounds like a human baby. Awe, so precious. The mom looks young and inexperienced but now she has had a few litters and knows what to do.RIP little baby cub.

Until I start watching TH-cam and videos on wildlife I always thought the tiger was it. But honestly I think I'm siding with lions now. Their a cool and noble animal, especially the female's, though the males are too, but I'm really impressed with how bad ass the female lion's really are. Human girls are same, cool and bad ass. Got to respect them
