Amazing style. Freddie is a blast to watch. Superman has more vulnerabilities then most may think outside of Kryptonite. He's vulnerable to magic. His greatest weakness though is his humanity. He cares for all people. Villains often use this to lure or trap Superman. Taking people captive to throw him off his game. His greatest attribute and biggest weaknes is just that. He cares for human life.
The mirror trick is used so that you can check your drawing and see if it's distorted. I used to draw my faces at a slant all the time and never noticed until I learned of the mirror trick. You get so used to drawing from you standard perspective, that when you use the mirror, almost all flaws show up instantly.
they typically use Bristol board and in some cases even up to 4 ply Bristol which is just rlly very thick paper meant to hold ink on it so water isn't such a feat for the paper
I find actually watching the entire video and the creation process both amazing and soothing. I don't draw myself so I never watch these as a tutorial really but I still learn a bit, such as various ways an artist might shade. Mainly though, I just find it relaxing to watch these guys draw :) I actually feel a little sad once it's ended because now I have to be snapped out of my trance.
This was it! This was the first drawing I first ever saw that got me hooked to Comic Books and it's art! Thank you Evan, for this video. Without it, I would never have found my love for DC and Marvel!
man, I saw the thumbnail and recognized your style. I was like "oh boy don't tell me some clown got one of william 3's pics and is passing it off like he did a tutorial.
Typically I don't like a style this cartoon-y, but man this looks awesome. I love the style and the depth of the structure. I also love the anatomy. Great stuff.
Couple of questions: what was the purpose of the watercolour pencil? What kind of pen was the Faber Castell you used? And why not just leave the drawing in 0.1mm lines, and shade over with the water brush? Also, do those water brushes come with specific paint colours?
Those ultrafine disposable pens are so much better than technical pens, in terms of ease of use. (No fixing pens that seem to perpetually get clogged with bent wires.) Try Claybord, as a means of easily fixing mistakes with the use of razor blades or scratch knives. But I'd really like to try making such art digitally, using Corel Painter and a Wacom Inkling tablet. I prefer a realistic, stippled style, but a noir style might be fun to try.
hey when i use the brush tool, no matter how much i tweak it the edges are slightly blurry. For example if i draw a circle with teh brush and fill the center, it leaves a very thin white/gradient-ish gap in between, this is ruining my attempts at inking and coloring. Im obviously setting something wrong. Any help?
Im guessing draw something complicated.. not just a square right? And do you mean crooked on the paper? Or crooked meaning like symmetry as in one ear is higher than the other etc..
I was wondering, where did you get the fabric pen used at 8:40 ? I used to have one, but it ran out of ink and I forgot the name of the store where I got it from.
I would like to know what kind of a sketchbook he was using to hold water and it seemed to have a lot of pages. Also how long did this take him to complete?
I was wondering what tool he was using, too. It seems to be a liquid pencil. I had no idea, but I imagined what name it would be, so I put liquid pencil into Google and there it was. You can buy it from Blick. You fill it with little tubes that look like paint.
1. Red sun radiaton 2. Magic 3. Huge physical forces= so if he is beaten so hard and fast he can not heal or regain some energy and will die if taken enough hits. 4. Dying for his friends= in an episode of the justice league the man of steel "Supposedly" died for his friends. Showing he will die if he is forced to die by a hostage like wonder women.
He used a water-color pencil and then a water brush (a brush with a water container, to easily spread out the water color pencil). The paper must be some kind of paper that is good with water, yes.
red kryptonite is a wildcard I do not understand the potential impact of RK on superman; it may be able to take away his powers or cause them to malfunction. Gold Kryptonite can permanently remove the powers of a kryptonian
To add to the barrage of people proving you wrong: Also comic art isn't about exact human anatomy it's about people with fantastical proportions and artistic licence is taken and things are done in certain ways for effect.
It's pretty simple. Nobody's brain is perfect. Usually when we draw our drawing we bias/slant our drawing to one side or the other. But when the same brain sees a reflection or inversion of the same drawing, it can detect its biases/slants. Try it. Draw something and then put it in front of the mirror. If you watch closely, you'll notice that it's all crooked.

Superman is my favorite superhero! Ever since I was a kid
Man these guys are so talented. Gotta keep pushing to get to this level... where it just comes without thinking.

His work is incredible, I love all of the tiny little details that he adds; it makes such a difference to the drawing.
This was it! This was the first drawing I first ever saw that got me hooked to Comic Books and it's art! Thank you Evan, for this video. Without it, I would never have found my love for DC and Marvel!
i watch this video every day
man, I saw the thumbnail and recognized your style. I was like "oh boy don't tell me some clown got one of william 3's pics and is passing it off like he did a tutorial.
Amazing work. Nice to see what you can do with just a few simple tools. Keep it up Freddie!
The fact that you use mirror is mind-blown. Thank you!

Typically I don't like a style this cartoon-y, but man this looks awesome. I love the style and the depth of the structure. I also love the anatomy. Great stuff.

Amazing artwork of SuperMan

Awesome drawing btw. Love your style.
Boy, he started out with an awkward sketch, but finished with a fascinating drawing! Cool!
Couple of questions: what was the purpose of the watercolour pencil? What kind of pen was the Faber Castell you used? And why not just leave the drawing in 0.1mm lines, and shade over with the water brush? Also, do those water brushes come with specific paint colours?
That is such a master piece.
Just amazing! Thank you for the videos Evan :)
That little shorthand on the nose!! Cool idea
is a brush, but you can fill those with water or watercolor so you can work faster
Can you use a normal pencil (a more soft one) and a normal water brush to get the same effect? or do you rally nead a special watercolor pencil?
the best draw in the history of all time
epic dude so cool love ur staging methods
I never thought to use a mirror to review my art, I always turn the picture upside down to identify the mistakes... Awesome vid!!
Magic and can u tell me what pens he was using thanks and keep up they good work loving the drawings u put up

I love how they draw the rough sketch.. It may look like scribbles, but it will always be better than what we draw with so much effort...
Takes alot of practice and hardwork just keep going at it cause this dude has been doing it for literally more than a decade

what do you use to erase?
i think the key of this awesome draw is to clean the pencil sketch.
the music matched perfect with the video... i enjoyed it...

what kinda pen did he use to colour supermans hair black and the outlines
I was wondering, where did you get the fabric pen used at 8:40 ?
I used to have one, but it ran out of ink and I forgot the name of the store where I got it from.
Old But Gold
I HAVE A MECHANIC PEN BUT WHAT GRAY INC DID YOU USE TO FILL IN THE DETAILS? I'M COMPLETE WITH MY COMICS I JUST NEED TO ADD DETAILS TO IT. LOL.
dude, this is amazing!!!!
I would like to know what kind of a sketchbook he was using to hold water and it seemed to have a lot of pages. Also how long did this take him to complete?
Is this a water color sketchbook? Looks as if it holds up well to the wet media.
Awesome work
How do you for shorten arms and other body extensions???
Evan how long it took you time to learn how to way to draw ??? my friends delighted with your work
I'm no professional but I would suggest a B or 2B for shading. It gives a much smoother shade then HB
What else can I say? Epic? Wonderful? Super? Manly?
This is so epic!!!!
What type of marker was that? it looks almost like water color.
Goku would mess Superman up without going Super Saiyan. End of story. I'm learning a lot about drawing from you and Mark Crilley. Keep it up, man!
what is the tool/technique he use to make the light gray shadows?
+Miguel Goodhting Hey guys check out this awesome "Design a Superhero" contest/Fundraiser: www.fundraise.com/the-g-ai-a-effect/becoming-super

Magic! Superman is vulnerable towards magic attacks.
I'm very confused? is he using watercolor paper? i saw him use a waterbrush and the paper didn't seem to be buckling even a little
its a oil base pen.
marker*

how long did the entire piece take in real time?
Watercolor pencils. I'm pretty sure that they are just like pallette watercolors, but in pencil form.
Thats sick as drawing
How is the song called in 08:56 ??
MAGIC! he's also weak against it hence why black adam usually has the upper hand on him.

Amazing. Thank you...
